I did email the relevant rescues listed on this link last week, but no joy! Just had another look and there's one that we missed so I am just gonna call them tommorow! The obvious people we have called ie, vets animal rescues etc. have just said that this is what cats do and that they cannot touch cats which may not be strays.

I have no experience of kittens, Chook, but I can understand how worrying this situation is for you and your Mum, especially as it looks as if her shed is going to be a magnet for all the poor mum cats with kittens - though I believe they do help each other out with their kittens, so more may be better than one in that respect

I was at mum's today and she has still been hunting for someone to help and listen! But the cats were keeping a low profile and all was pretty calm, mum also said that the neighbours have not done any shooting this week.
I thought it was time to check on the litter in mums shed too as she hasn't for fear of scaring them, originally there were 3 kittens. 2 black and one dark tabby!
The mum has been going back in and out of the shed all the time, so I waited until I saw her leave and then went to check it out. Much to my surprise there was another cat in the corner and she was surrounded by kittens. 2 black and 2 beige tabbies! Mum seemed calm and was happy for me to look, the other mum hissed! One of the kitten approached me and was hopping about so I picked him up to check him over, very cute obviously, but he had massive and I mean unaturally huge, eyes! The other tabby looked fine, but the 2 black ones both have one of thier eyes completely shut and they dont look in good shape.

So now what to do with these kittens they are to young to take them in, mummies appear to be doing a good job.

I would try him on a little mashed up kitten food, mised with a little water, to see if he wants to eat it - if he does then I would take him in, they obviously don't want him.

If they could be got down here on the South Coast I would be more than willing to take on any little kittens that manage to "stray" on to your property but, as usual, distance is a hindrance. As Janey says, the situatioin is just going to spiral out of control if nothing is done.

Have you tried contacting the Celia Hammond Trust, I know they operate in London but I don't know which parts. If the family are saying they don't own these cats then one of the bigger charities should be willing to help out to stop a population explosion surely.

If I was your mum I would get chatting to CP (again) this lady said she doesn't own the cats - just one? ok right then the rest need trapping (if you can't handle them) and sorting. I am really surprised no-one is willing to help these kitties, do keep trying, have you rung all rescues in the area from the link I gave? obviously the situation will get too out of hand if it isn't sorted soon and this needs stressing.

So the RSPCA have finally responded, with a lovely phonecall, telling us that unless someone is killing or injuring an animal then they dont care

But today my mum has another little kitten in her garden, who is playing on the lawn. He has been there all day, and is palm sized so I'm guessing 4 weeks. Any advice?
Should we feed him?
Mum checked him over and he is fine, but she is a bit worried he cant fend for himself, but at the same time hoping that his mum will come and get him.
If she was to maybe, uncontrollably, adopt him, is he old enough to be taken in or not?

I think that ringing frequently will be the answer. I have found it rather depends on who answers the phone as to how much action you get out of the RSPCA. If you ring several times at different times of the day you will get different people, and increase your chances of finding one who actually is prepared to do the paperwork to deal with the problem. As for potential problems for your parents should they report the matter, there is always a certain risk, but if it is you who is doing the reporting they can play dumb and say it must have been someone else acting on their own initiative having witnessed something while visiting ...

My parents have tried approaching these people in a civil manner and they insist that they only own one of the cats, and all the rest are strays, but why would loads of stray hang around a house where they get shot at and mistreated. Then you need to start harrassing the rspca call centre until you get a decent human on the other end of the line. This could take some time. It wont matter your address is not near, your phoning on behalf of someone.
Keep phoning. Short cut through to a 'human' by pressing 2,2,4 when the voice starts.
Unfortunately the only people who can do anything is the rscpa, its getting them to act. Maybe tell them its a domestic cat with an owner and they will be round in a shot to get it

It's a shame that CP don't have the power to investigate and the RSPCA who do are useless in so many cases. You could ask your local CP for help dealing with the RSPCA. They might be able to put the squeeze on them. If the RSPCA won't help, tell them you are contacting the Ilford Recorder about it (I grew up in that area)

- the RSPCA really have a responsibility to deal with this

a friend of mine called about a cat that lived over her mum and dads way, it was looking a bit unkempt, the rspca did call round and called her and told her that it was on medication and was 19 it only took a day or two for it to be sorted

I wouldn't give up with this it's terrible and will get out of hand. I would contact the RSPCA and insist they do something I would keep pestering if need be, I have rung the RSPCA over things before and so have members of my family and they have been out and checked.

Prolem with that is my address is miles away and I need to provide contact details to make a complaint that they will take seriously I tried it when all of this started getting worse last year!

Well I would consider all of it to be cruel, my dad called the RSPCA and told them eveything, but they haven't done anything neither have they been in contact!

that's a shame, I know people at hillingdon rspca but you can't really get further away in London - if cruelty is an issue only the rspca can do anything I believe

Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and a proud owner of a new kitten, but I would like some help/advice about an issue which is spiralling out of control.
My mum lives in a town in the edge of london and has been there for 20 years. About 2 years ago she got some new neighbours move in and they had a cat. Slowly more and more cats have been added and they have had kittens and the new total is 13. There are two pregnant females that we can see at the moment.
But all of these cats are being treated cruelly, my mum has seen the owner dunking the cats in buckets of Icy water, he shoots at them with a BB gun and they are fed occasionally, all from the one bowl. She has recently witnessed this man throwing 2 week old kittens out into the garden and basically he is just a sicko, so many things to mention. One of the older kittens has just had a litter of 3 in my mums shed, there are another litter in the garden on the other side, she saw a one of thier cats having kittens in a cardboard box in their garden last week but they were obviously disposed of.
She has called the RSPCA and Cats protection but they are not helping at all.
All she can do is look after the ones in her shed, but it would appear that mummy cat is doing a good job. We really don't know what to do about them all, my mum is not well and couldn't cope with all of the kittens in her shed, but as her and my dad have just lost their beloved dog they are considering taking one in as a house cat. It will get to a point soon where these kittens will need weaning and my mum doesn't feel that she can look after them on her own, but at the same time once they are big enough to leave her garden they will be subjected to this evil neighbours cruelty.
Does anyone know what we can do?
