I have heard of a few that tell people to bring a carrier which is a bit worrying. I'm sure most people are fine but you never know  :scared:
Thats what they've said, to bring a proper carrier along (not a cardboard) if we can rehome that night.  I'm going to take it anyway but like I say, would prefer to collect after the weekend mad-house has calmed.

I know what you mean though, it did surprise me.  Not so concerned about myself as I know our home is fine and that we are decent people but it could all go horribly wrong in some cases I imagine :(

Our branch of CP puts ads in free papers advising people not to pass cats on that way due to all kinds of things (such as labs) so a rescue should know better. I know you can get a fair idea of people over the phone but I don't think its enough. There are all kinds of things you can pick up on during a homecheck.

A homecheck afterwards is daft and a bit pointless really?
I do agree but I'm sure that's what I read somewhere.  Something about checking that the cat has setted well I think it was.

that sounds sensible - and I expect your friend will be glad not to have two kids demanding they have a new kitten too :evillaugh:
haha they already have 2 but I bet that wouldn't stop them wanting to take mine with them!

We've seen a gorgeous tortie and white girl on the rescues website who sounds just perfect.  Hopefully she'll be there on Thursday and will love us!

Mark - yes, they have said we could take one on Thursday if we do find one then.  I think they do follow-up home visits afterwards.  We've already been postcode checked to make sure our area is suitable.

I think we have everything we need now apart from a collar and a new cat-flap but we'll sort those once we get puss home and settled.  They come from the rescue deflead, wormed, chipped and with a months insurance etc so that's all good.  Oh and they even come with food so we'll know what they like before having to buy any in ourselves.

I'm so excited I could burst!!

Glad you are getting a new cat and you sound like you will be good "parents" but do they let cats go without home checks etc? - just curious as there are some dodgy people around.

Edit - just checked their Catchat listing and they do home checks first   :shy:

 :thanks: Sam.

We've been having a bit of a re-think about Thursday.  We have my friend and her 2 kids coming to stay over at the weekend so it strikes me it's not the best weekend to have a kitten/cat getting used to it's new home.  We're still going to go to the open evening but if we find a cat we want then we're going to reserve it (they'll hold it for 2/3 days) and collect it on Sunday after our friends have gone and the house has returned to it's usual tranquil, calm state  :)

Thanks Dawn.  I think I'll use the vets in Frogmore on the edge of Wycombe centre if I can.  It's only a couple of minutes drive from where I live and my employer has an office opposite that I can work in if I need to be nearby for any reason (touch wood that wouldn't be necessary).  Also my colleague has used them for several years with her Labrador and hasn't had any problems.

:Luv: thanks everyone!  I have had cats before but since moving 150 miles from 'home' to be with my now-Husband, we've never been allowed to keep them.  Luckily we've now moved into a place where the landlady loves cats so we can finally do something about getting one  ;D

We're both so excited!

Hi, just thought I'd post a quick message to introduce myself.

I'm LJ and I live in High Wycombe, Bucks.  We don't have any cats at the moment but are hoping to rehome one in the next week or so from a rescue that we found through Catchat.  Very excited about welcoming a feline friend into our home!
