You will be in my thoughts today Philip, it doesn't matter how often you go through this, it never gets easier. You are doing the right thing though, and you have given her every chance, it is just so unfair with her age, but she has had a god life with you, and lucky enough to be with someone strong enough to take her pain away for her.

I hope you have some good friends or an oh to give you a big hug and lots of support when the time comes. Your other cats will need attention from you, they'll grieve also.

I have had to make this decision twice before.

It doesn't get any easier.

Nope, it never does. I've had to make the decision for a number of different critters as well as cats, and I have to say the decision is NEVER easy whatever animal is concerned. They all have a place in your heart, and it feels so empty when they aren't there anymore. :care:

:care: She really is beautiful, Philip.

I'm so sorry, I think most of the people on this site have had to make the decision at some point and it's horrific.

You enjoy your time with Maddy tonight, and know that you're making the decision because you feel her quality of life isn't what a proud, independent animal deserves.

I know exactly what you're going through but quality of life is the most important thing. Allowing her to be free of her illness is the greatest way to show your love at this point. Enjoy the time you have together and know you have everyone's support when that time comes, be it tomorrow or another.

I really don't want whats going to happen tomorrow.

I would gladly give my right arm and be able to keep Maddy for a few more years than do what I have to do tomorrow.
She is only 9 and this is so unfair.

But a life where you are only sustained by artificial means of nutrition and fluid resuscitation isn't a good life anymore.

The last 2 days when picking Maddy up to syringe feed her, she let out the most horrible scared meow. It broke my heart to hear it. It was like she was saying "I hate this".

Nearly all the interactions I have with Maddy are sticking pills down her or needles in her, or syringes in her mouth. I hate this now. Its been so intense the last few weeks. I feel so emotionally tired.

So tonight I'm just going to be with Maddy, no pills, no wrapping her in a towel to shove more food down her. I just want to admire her beauty and show her how much I love her.

I am so sorry Philip, i feel for you because i am in the same situation with Phoebe but i have to say since my vet put her on Periactin which basicly stimulate appetite in cats with CRF, she has been eating much better hence taking her medication, she still has bad days which she wont eat for all day but then starts eating following day.
I dont know if you want to ask your vet about Periactin and see if it helps Maddys appetite.

I have been syringe feeding her lots and she is still losing weight. She has no interest tonight of even drinking. I really don't think periactin will help. If she can't even sustain a good body weight even with adequate syringe feeding then I feel that would be futile. She is already on Fortekor, potassium, Antibiotics and sub Q fluids. She is still deteriorating and I can't bear to see it anymore.

She is so weak tonight she keeps stumbling. She keeps sitting down after a few steps.

The toxins in her blood are way too high. The azotaemia is just making her feel really ill.

I feel Maddy is much worse than Phoebe is at this stage.

Maddy was really bad last night.

So I made the decision, gave her 150ml sub q fluid and a little food.

Today she drank lots and ate a little food and rubbed against a few things which made things seem so difficult, but I still took her to see what my vet felt.

She has lost more weight, but was orientated and decided to purr and rub herself against the weighing scales.

So my vet felt that it wasn't quite time today and I should keep up the fluids and feeding over the weekend, but that it isn't long now before the decision should be made.

So I have brought her home so I can spend the last few days with her.

I'm sure it's going to be during next week some time now. It isn't long away.

So I am losing my precious baby. I need to cherish these last few days.

Thank you to everyone for the love and support. Maddy is the first raggie I have had the pleasure to have in my life and now I have 7.

I just wish so much right now that we could have longer together. She is such a wonderful cat. My special little girl.

Hope today is good too and that the better weather helps too. I find the teaspoon much easier if she'll sit still. And you may get more down her which will help her feel better too.

Maddy has had a good day today. She was waiting by my front door when I came home from work.

I have managed to feed her renal diet using a teaspoon which to be honest was easier and less stressful that syringe feeding.

With having to puree the renal diet to syringe feed, The syringe sometimes blocked or I made it too watery causing too much to come out and squirting it all over me.

So still taking things day by day. I don't feel it is time quite yet.

I would have a frank conversation with your vet about her chances, and how long she feels intensive nursing should be done to determine whether she can get over this crisis. You are both in my thoughts, it is such a hard place to be in.

Yes I know Gill. its well know isnt it that cats that have been hit by a car purr.

Maddy was Purring and had a contented look in her eyes so I felt it was a good purr.

I am so pleased that it was a good purr
