still looking for something for ebony#1 #decided not to use the rearguard and now looking at something natural - mind you the first one was essential oils and we konw how dangerous they can be!

Anyway came across this on wikihow! wierd or what!

How to Get Rid of Flies Around Your Dog's Water and Food Bowls

Here's an inexplicable yet effective way of keeping flies and mosquitoes away from most things. Observed in Brazil, this method will help keep your dog's eating area free of insects.

Get a small clear sandwich bag or Ziplock; shopping bags do not usually work.
Fill the bag up with normal tap water.
Tie the bag shut with a piece of string.
Use the same piece of string to suspend the plastic bag from the rafters or from a window sill; make sure there is space around the bag (it cannot be too close to a wall).

The locals in Brasilia (capital of Brazil) and indeed the rest of Brazil all rely on this method of pest control.
Bags should be suspended at a height taller than any member of the family. Not only is this for the obvious reasons of people not hitting their heads on the bags, but it's also because flies will always fly in circles upwards, and bags up high will keep them away from people.
Adding a couple of pennies to the inside of the bag also helps to repel flies.
Moving the bags by gently pushing on them occasionally also helps.

I always use cheapo nappy sacks to clean out unused cat food, very hot water to clean the bowls, saying that, I also nappy sack any meat/veg stuff from food preparation/leftovers, I find it reduces the maggotts in the bin by a great deal.

I'm really glad I read this, Charley is a bit of a b****r when it comes to his bum and often ends up getting it dunked in the bath- after reading this though he's off to get his fluffy trousers shaved, it's seems somewhat drastic but he just can't keep it clean and whenever I get out the wipes he promptly sits down so I can't get to it  :shify:

We don't need to worry about food though, there is never any left over!

I'm sure most people are careful but even the best houses get flies laying eggs on cat food left out  :evillaugh: - just a reminder to be vigilant. I also put waste cat food down the toilet to be sure (probably not supposed to but hey  :evillaugh: )
