By the amount of Ancol collars Jerry and Gizzy lost before we gave up I would say they are pretty safe!

I think the Ancol collars are just as good quality as Kittycollars - sorry to all you Kittycollar devotees!

Even pocket money needs topping up in this tough economic climate

The kitty collars were £7.99 each but address and telephone number is preprinted on outside of collar. Am hoping they will be able to do similar on their reflective collars before too long.

Fair enough, Ela. But most owners will check the collar by hand too - I know I do. The Ancol collars are definitely a good buy and not too expensive.

Still not talking anti collar here.

All I can say on this is that I know we have taken in many injured cats (collar injuries) in with so called safety release collars. The only make I understand that tests each one by hand is Kitty collars.

I like Ancol collars, definitely quick release - the only downside is they can be tricky to keep tags on them.

My cats both lose theirs regularly, but because they are kittycollars with the address on them, they invariably find themselves back in our letterbox at some point

There's only one gone missing so far that's not been found at all - and I suspect that's in our neighbour's garden and they are away for several weeks! The first ones didn't have the house details, just the phone number and I had a phone message from my next door neighbour saying they'd found a collar and did I want to go and collect it

Part of the problem as well is they are inplaces several pounds more than the elasticated type so for someone whose cat loses them regularly they will opt for the cheaper, im seeing them around at £1.99 now tho so no excuses

I personally know these to be very good safety release collars. I have four cats and these collars are a favoured one in our house, the cats don't seem to dislike how they feel, they're safety release (the same type of clasp as Kittycollars) and as an added bonus are reflective so if your cat has 24/7 access you'll be a little less worried. (Only a little; I tend to worry about mine regardless!)

I personally do not think that a good idea for people to just show links to various sites showing safety release collars, not all so called safety collars are and just an odd poster trying a certain brand does not necessarily mean it safe. As far as I am aware the only collar tried and more importantly trusted by numerous people on Purrs and indeed other cat sites is the Kitty Collar. As most of you know I am totally anti collar, however, I appreciate some people do want them and so for that reason the breakaway Kitty collar is the only one I would ever recommend.

Mine have safety collars from www.kittycollars.co.uk I particularly like the fact that you can have your address/phone no written on the atual collar, as that avoids the need for a separate tag.

I thought a reminder about collars would be a good idea, have noticed new cats pics being posted and them wearing elasticated style collars.

If your cat wears a collar please please buy them a quick release type, elastic inserts only stretch they do not break if they get caught up or if a leg gets stuck, they can cause horrific injuries
