Wow Liz I have no idea how you manage!! I adore my boys but don't think I could manage more than 4.

I've decided that if he gets me up tonight I'm not going through to play with him and he starts gnawing I'll shut him out. It won't help me sleep tonight but maybe he just needs to realise that while I may be his slave getting me up at 4am to play is taking it too far.

My vets does them earlier than that too, I have to say it has made me laugh  :naughty:  but he does sound such a love  :Luv:  although it must be exhausting for you!  :tired:  I hope he settles down when he is done.
Please consider the harder to home cats in rescue.

On a brighter note soon you will be able to sleep through it all as you will be so tired! ;)

They do eventually calm down slightly we have 7 under 2 years old and they play tag all night long but the older ones sleep with us so they tend to leave the bed alone now as the older ones bopped them on the way over!

having said that sometimes all 43 of ours decided to be active at once and I get tired just watching add in the 2 Border Collies and I wonder how we both work full time and are up every day at 05.30am - at the weekend we get up feed and seperate the mobs, let the dogs out and go back to bed!

He is funny, right now he is crashing about in his new cat cube and taking running jumps at the poor fishy hanging down. Seems silly getting so het up over an overactive cat when so people would love a little livewire it's just the lack of sleep!!

I think I'll start phoning around and try to get him done sooner, I don't expect miracles, he will always be a little monkey but even if it chills him out by even 15% I'd be more than happy.

PS I'm sure Basil would love a holiday Gill, sure you don't want a visitor? I'm thinking about hiring him out for cats that need exercise, Charley has not only lost a bit of his belly but finally managed to get himself on top of the wardrobe which he has been trying to do since we got him.

I'm sorry, just had to laugh at his antics  - he sounds like a real livewire, bless him! Neutering will calm him down, probably! but not straight away, takes a while for the hormones to settle down. I have to say I'd love a little maniac like him - well, for a few days maybe!  ;)

I would try a different vet - my vet does boys from 3 mo as long as they have dropped, and others do them at 4 and 5mo. Good luck

For the last 2 or 3 weeks Basil has been manic and between the hours of 4-7am (sometimes 8) he goes on a huge bender, he tries to play with the other cats but they can't keep up with him so he comes and finds me and starts gnawing on any available body part so I get up and play. Once he gets fed up with me he goes back to the other cats and starts chasing them about so I can't sleep due to the sounds of skidding, crashing and banging. He goes on little adventures, naming climbing up the curtains, getting stuck then crying til I come get him down. I've had him throw himself at my leg, hold on with all 4 legs and sink his teeth in. I'm even beginning to wonder if he does it on purpose to wake me up so I go play with him.

So for the last week I've been up every morning at 4am playing the Da Bird or Da Mousey trying to tire him out. I even tried having a good long play with him before I went to bed but I just can't tire him out! My floor is littered with cat toys, empty loo rolls, scrunched up bits of tin foil all of which he plays with quite happily during the day but once 4am rolls by he goes crazy, I'm used to cats having mad half hours but his mad half hour lasts 3-4 hours.

Will this calm down once he has had the chop? He is 16 weeks now and my vets won't do him until he 6 months old. The other kitten Baxter is a little crazy but he doesn't have even half the energy or manicness that Basil has, Baxter has been done as he is a little older and was done by the rescue which leads me to think that maybe he will calm down a little.

Sorry for rambling, I don't even think this post has a point as I think I've done everything I can think of to try and tire him out so I can get more than 3 hours sleep, but would appreciate and ideas or even just some assurance that neutering him will calm him down a bit so I can start counting down the days!!
