We use Westwood Vets in Garforth - http://www.westwoodvs.co.uk/

There are two other vets closer but we found Westwood first and the parking is easier. Plus I like most of the staff.

I take our cats to Rutland House in St. Helens. They have several branches in the region, as well as a specialist referral center. They were great with Lucia, spent so much time and effort, and I trust them.

Unfortunately, they're not my current vets (I've moved house) but for anyone in the SE London area, the Barrier Animal Clinic at the Thames Barrier in Charlton is amazing - wonderful people for whom nothing is too much trouble and with a deep and genuine care for their patients.  Their prices were always lower than anywhere else in the locality and, as I said on another thread, they refused to take payment there and then for a PTS - instead, they sent a sympathy card with their bill a couple of weeks later.  If you can get there, go there.

I'm in Swindon and use the Drove Veterinary Hospital.  There are 11 branches in Swindon which is great but my vet's moved to one of the far away branches so I have to beg a lift from Michelle.

http://www.drovevets.co.uk/content/section/home/ref/1/

Rebecca Drake is the vet I like, her special field is in feline medicine and surgery.  A consultation did cost me £28 odd when there was nothing wrong with Nova after christmas but I know the service is good.

The Village Animal Hospital
Guards Avenue
Coulsdon Road
Caterham
Surrey
CR3 5ZD
01883 348483

Is the main branch which I use for surgery and late appointments but use the Merstham branch which is the same vets but a smaller branch that's more local to me. All staff are just fantastic and I have been nothing short of amazed at their skills and dedication. It's also competitively priced.

I use Bridge Vet Clinic in Aberdeen http://www.any-uk-vet.co.uk/bridge-bridge-of-don/index.htm

They have 3 vets at the practice and Mr and Mrs Adams are absolutely fantastic and I'd highly recommend the pair of them (as would the Team if they could talk!)  ;D ;D Since I moved last year the vets is now about 25 miles away but I just don't trust anyone else with my cats other than these 2.

Feel free to visit the Team at www.svartalfheim.co.uk

Any recommendations near Purley, Croydon (Surrey) or would I be best advised to ask the local Cats Protection branch which ones they use locally?

Rgds
i use Ashtons vetinary surgery in New Addington.  they also have a surgery in Addiscombe.  Mark Nelson at Pampisford road is excellent too.  in fact i would use Nelsons all the time if i were closer.

When I lived in London I used Mark Nelsons surgery and Mark  looked after Kocka for me, I would also recomend. He had two surgerys one in South Croydon and a smaller one in Thornton Heath , which is where I used to go, although Kocka was hospitalized a few times in South Croydon.

i can't rate them enough actually.  when i was a child the practice was run by Marks dad and my parents used them all the time.  they are friendly, helpful, sympathetic and more than happy to take the time to explain every aspect of your pets care.  brilliant surgery, brilliant vets and brilliant staff.

I use Aurora vets on Bankhead Road in Aberdeen.  They are a fantastic bunch, caring, honest, friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble.  I only wish I had found them when dear old Winston was around.  http://www.auroravet.co.uk/

I use Highland Vets on the Roslistion Road, Stapenhiil, Burton on Trent. A tadge on the expensive side but the care given to TJ when he had part of his ear amputated a few weeks ago and to Murphy yesterday after he had his stroke and subsequent PTS is fantastic. The owner (Bill) is very compassionate and understands where you are coming from when you stand in front of him blubbing!

CP are not allowed to recommend vets. This is due to occasions when in the past they have recommended vets and the person has been unhappy, then goes on to blame CP and even tried to sue them. Best way to find a vet I have found is to canvass other local pet owners. So ask anyone with a cat in their garden, or local dog walkers.  :)

I use Bourne vets in Bekesbourne, Kent. http://www.bournevets.co.uk/ They have clinics 7 days a week and also operate on weekends if needed.

I use Animal Medical Centre in Chorlton, Manchester.  They also have a branch in Yorkshire.

http://www.amcreferrals.com/0-intro.html

They are a referral centre so not always easy to get registered for general practice, but I had no problem and I have seen people there with kittens etc for vaccinations so they are obviously taking people on.

Disadvantage is that because they are a specialist referral and postgrad training centre, the general practice is done by the interns who are usually only there for a year at a time.  So you don't get the continuity of care that you'd get seeing the same vet every time.  Advantages are that they have their own out of hours service which is excellent, with access to the latest equipment, drugs and expertise.  When Magpie went to rainbow bridge, he was seen initially by the vet on duty, but he was actually seen that night by 3 vets including one of the partners.  So the expertise is always on hand if the interns want a second opinion.  Prices for vaccinations, consultation charge etc are very reasonable too, and the nurses and reception staff are lovely.

I use Companion Care in Stockport.  They are open mostly the same hours as PAH (even Bank Holidays) and that is so convenient.  Also the vets there appear very caring and interested in Charlie and his welfare and the head receptionist is a star.  They are not the cheapest but are very proactive in preventitive care. :)

I'm in Norwich and also use a 'chain' vets (Chapelfield - the one in New Costessey is my local) but, as someone has already said, you can only rate the individual vets as far as care is concerned.  At
Chapelfied Veterinary Partnership, 160-162 Norwich Rd, New Costessey, Norwich NR5 0EH - 01603 743725
I have only had a 'slight' issue with one of the vets - and I'm prepared to admit that that was probably down to me  :-[ being overly-stressed with the situation. Everyone, from receptionists to admin staff to nurses to vets are very friendly, helpful ('specially with insurance issues! :sneaky:) and very caring.  When I had to have my beloved Avalo pts, they agreed to do it at home and were very sensitive to my wishes as a Buddhist. I received a "Sorry for your loss" card the next day and they also took the time out to telephone me with details of the report they got from Cambridge Vet Training school, to whom I had donated Avalo's kidneys.
As far as fees go - well I reckon that most 'chain' vets are probably more expensive than the smaller practices (?) - but I'd rather have a surgery round the corner from me than further away (as I have to rely on buses).

Clarendon Street veterinary surgery in Cambridge.

Patrick, the vet, describes himself as a general practitioner. That's not exactly true as he does everything on site that you would have expected a vet to do 20 years ago plus all the new 'on site' tests, but he would refer you to a specialist (or the local vet school) if it was something he did not have the facilities and resources for. He is independent and charges are very, very reasonable. He does a home visit once per year at no extra cost to vaccinate my four cats. Also, I can rely on him to tell me it as it is and he would never, never suggest an unneccessary treatment.

I use Companion Care in Chelmsford; much as I dislike the fact that it's in pets at home, they are pretty 'independently' owned and managed, and it's open 7 days a week so much more convenient and of course it lessons the likelihood of needing to use an out of hours service.  The vets there are excellent, I don't think you can tar any 'chain' with a good/bad/indifferent brush as it very much depends on the individual vets, and Simone and Sam are both superb.

I am in Surrey and use a chain of vets - Vet Doctors.
I use my local one in Knaphill near to Woking, been there alot recently (unfortunatly), but the service is first class.

Nazereen has been treating Tilly and she is very thorough and caring - I can't ask for anything more,
the nursing staff are excellent too.
The Woking branch is open on Sundays - I ve been then in emergencies

Our Wonderful vets in Stirling in Central Scotland

http://www.broadleysvets.co.uk/

We had 18 years of the most excellent care given to the Clan cats and Dogs and us their humans

And our current vets - the partners from both practices went to Vet School together

http://www.donviewvets.co.uk/

These are the folks who will be doing Jazz's surgery on friday

I spent longer trying to find a vet when we moved than doctor and dentist!

I would recommend these vets to anyone they are caring, compassionate and have the mostwonderful facilities and both operate out of hours services and have staff on the premises overnight

Dragon Veterinary Centre. They are based at the racecourse - Prestbury Park, New Barn Lane, Cheltenham, Glos. http://www.dragonvet.co.uk/

I honestly cannot rate them highly enough, they are simply fantastic and I trust them 100% with all my animals. All the staff are super friendly and incredibly caring. I  :Luv: :Luv: my vets. Ollie the Aussie is exceptional with cats and he is the only one who Memphis doesn't seem to attack  :scared:

I would also like to give a shout out to Brad Cooper who took over and now runs Folly Gardens Veterinary Clinic, Barton Road, Tewkesbury. Best. Vet. Ever!!!!! I'm still so sad he left Dragon but he is fabulous.

Thought it might be useful if we all list our vet practices that we use and are happy with, we would then get a good list countrywide going.    I guess its best not to post what ones are bad as it could leave Purrs liable to prosecution!
