The vet seemed possitive that it was not Frontline. He has seen rections to frontline before and he said tht Ollie's was different, much more like a food allergy. I did research food allergies and one of the symptoms can be skin leisions. At the moment I'm not having him tested - I prefer to wait and see what happens next. Watch this space!

Goose reacts to frontline by loosing a clump of hair as well - which is a shame as the bald patch is so obvious with his white skin and black fur. I still use it though as I don't like the idea of an injection for them - prefer to keep the chemicals on the outside! It doesn't seem to bother him that much, he sometimes scratched the area and to date has only made it bleed once.

Isn't that strange that it coincided with the Frontlining  :shify:  What's the next step after the cream then, will you have to cut things out of his diet?

Ollie went to the vet this afternoon and it is unlikely that Frontline caused the problem with his skin. The vet suspects it may be an allergy - possibly food related. He also thinks that it may have caused his high temperature last week plus his loss of appetite. I have to put Predniderm on it 3 times a day and see how it goes. His temperature is normal and he is eating again so that's a relief although I don't fancy having another cat with allergies, our last one cost a fortune in vet bills as she was allergic to everything!

Thank you everyone. I have made an appointment for both cats to see the vet this afternoon. At the moment, they both seem fine but it's been quite a week with them each having problems of one sort or another . We are supposed to go on hols for a week in 10 days so I want to be sure they are ok, otherwise I won't go.

Its probably coincidence. Keep an eye on the bald patch, if it doesnt heal or weeps he will need the vet.
Gooey reacted to his stronghold last month, have used this previously but this time a large lump of hair fell out and then he tried to scratch at it  :tired: the hair is only just growing back through.

Clapton is allergic to a lot of flea treatments. Stronghold is the worst. He never used to be but it started last year. When the vet was here a few weeks ago, she gave him advocate and he was allergic to that as well  :(

We use Program Injection this covers fleas and Ticks

It is great for ticks as they turn grey and fall off - if you have dogs there is a Program tablet whichwe use on our 3 - we live in a rural location and have sheep, cattle and deer around so can have a lot of tick

Ollie's reaction to Frontline
« Reply #1 on: March 18, 2009, 08:51:00 AM »
Please bear with me as this is a bit complex. Last week Ollie went to the vet because he was off his food. He had a slight temperature and was given an antibiotic injection plus 10 days supply of antibiotic pills. I started he pills on Saturday as instructed. That same day, I Frontline's all 3 cats because they were overdue and, I had already found ticks on their coats. Today, when grooming Ollie, I was horrified to see that he has a complete bald patch on the Frontline site and the skin is very inflamed and angry looking. Ollie does not actually seemed bothered. To add to the confusion, there are patches of blood on the patio outside - Baz cut his paw on Saturday but, I have checked, and there is no sign that it has reopened. So, is it possible that the blood is from Ollie? There is none on his collar though. Or, maybe there is a strange cat around and there was a fight!?? I admit that I should not haver Frontlined Ollie when he was unwell but, he has had the treatment before with no adverse reaction and, I'm very concerned about ticks. Could it have been a bad reaction because of the antibiotics? Obviously I will be reluctant to reapply it in future but, there are so  many ticks around, not protecting him is not an option. Ollie has begun to eat again and he seems to have more energy so let's hope that his original problem is on the mend.
