My Jasper was put to sleep about an hour ago. He was 14 and had CRF, diagnosed about 2 yrs ago and had been doing well up till yesterday, although he'd had a couple of off days this past month, but seemed to pick up. Last night he only ate a bit of tea, and I noticed he was a bit wobbly on his back legs, he did eat some biscuits at bedtime and had settled on the bed, but got off through the night and wandered around howling.
He came downstairs this morning and again only ate a little breakfast and spent a lot of the day sitting over the water bowl. I was going to phone the vet to see if she could fit me in before the end of surgery, but just went upstairs to check on him and found him collapsed and howling again, so they said to bring him straight in, vet did say they could get him on fluids and try vitamin jabs etc, but that it was only buying a bit of time, and so I let him go. He went very quickly and peacefully in my arms.
