CC, did you ever try him on the Classic cat food? I got some for Sam, and his gums stopped looking red within days of eating it - he has a hypoallergenic dry food too.

He's started back on the steriods today, this morning he was getting the salava again and his mouth needed to be cleaned, but not to a point where its been long drool.

He's back at the vets next Tuesday so I will update then unless any drastic change

He's been good in himself, he's also been sleeping in the top bed of the cat tree which he never has done before

I can understand not wanting to lose him, but long term the steroids are only making it worse.

I know Des but its anything to keep him stable at the moment

I dont wanna loose him

But the vets said we'll keep him on the steriods for now, and Im due back in 10 days so we'll see what happens then

After a long wait at the vets

Vet said Ollie looks as if he's doing much better. He was given a steroid and anti-B jab, mixed together in the same jab. Is that normal? He has been given them this way before tho and he's been ok.

So vet says these antibiotics are doing him good but they are ones that have been used before, so we are just going round in circles

I have to take him back in 10 days as thats when the jabs wear off.

Vet says he really wish he knew how to cure him but I suppose he can only do his best. I think Ollies case is for a specialist vet.

Not much of an update I know but as long as Ollie is well and happy atm, Im happy too

Hopefully he's going to have another 10 months antibiotic free after this lot. I think I could cope with his times of illness much better if I knew he was going to be well for a long time after.

I had to get Byron her repeat prescription of Antirobe yesterday as her teeth are a bit manky again.

A little bit of green slime today but his throat is still open. He's at the vets tomorrow anyways so I will let ya's know what vet says

He has also been grooming himself and has sorted his sticky patches out. His coat is much better now

I really hope so to Helen but with the swelling and weight loss its not looking as if he's going to come back from this. His throat is at its worst, its never been swollen like that before

The vet thinks there may be some infection there.

I hope Im over acting, I really do but you kinda know when things are not looking up.

I feel so sad right now for the sake of no matter what is done, it just dont help my boy.

I just hope and have always said I want him to make it till his 5th birthday, which is July, 4 years of age is no age to go at all. Although I want him to live forever really

Been to vets today, its not looking great for Ollie

His throat is totally closed over, worse than last time, all inflamed and red sore. He has lost weight 3.9kg is what he weighs now.

Vet give him a jab to help with the swelling on his throat and I have to go back on Sat.

Im finally realising no matter how much love or money I have got to give, nothing's going to save him. Im loosing my boy.

Milly's Mum Diabetes is not a death sentence Tiger lived with it for 18 months and injectins twice a day and had no issues and was fine

we have been on the steroid route with Miss gracie, Metacam with Bertie - he had more things wrong with him and lived to be 21.2 and got a new illness which took him

I think the way to go is follow vets advice and listen to Ollie as well and between them they should come up with a plan you are all happy with

Longterm Metacam is better than all those steroids, if he ended up with diabetes he would have more to cope with ontop of current mouth probs, i would always opt for a shorter life with a drug such as Metacam if thats what treats the problem. Its anti imflammatory action can help lots with mouths without the problem of lowering his immune system

Fingers crossed that is the case but Metacam does restrict blood flow to/from the kidneys and other organs so has to be used with caution. It's a shame cats can't tell us when it hurts

Mark, I think Metacam would be a better option long term than hormones, although both have side effects. It could be that once the steroids are out of his system that he doesn't need as much of anything though.

That's good

Metacam should only be used 2 or 3 times a week though as it restrict blood flow to the kidneys amongst other things. If he does need it, his bloods will need to be kept an eye on.

Mark he's been on the steriods since being 6 months old. His kidneys were tested last Jan and I was suprised that they were fine, no damage had been done. Its also not good for him to stay on them any longer as they are repressing his immune system which is letting infections in and then he gets very ill.

Im so proud of my boy for coming as far as he has, I hope he has many more years to live. He's only 5 this July.
