Any help for Vac costs available?

Boarding catteries require cats to be done every 12 months so its not worth doing it every 15months just for the cattery...

If they are boosters and you go over you have to start afresh.

I get mine done every 15 months - they do not go out so it is just for the Cattery - and the vets have not said anything about starting afresh

Thats what i do with mine...my vet says its a live vac and doesnt just run out at 12mths

There isn't money available to help people with owned cats. When the branch first opened, Sharon tried helping a few people but word got around and she had problems.

Companion care vets are often doing vaccination deals, thats the group who operate from PAH premises, they always have vouchers in my local paper.
Blue cross have hospitals that offer help but i have no idea of registration process or where they are!

thanks for the reminder about pet vaccination month - shame they have no detail on the website yet for this year but I shall certainly be mentioning it to the group at the meeting tonoght to pass on to new owners (if we ever get any!)

That's what I meant by not ideal but if she can't afford it at full price she might have no option

Thanks Helen - not sure if it is a good idea advising someone to hold off a few months - what do you think?

Not ideal but if she waits til June it's National Vaccination month and certain vets will be offering heavily discounted vaccinations.  If I remember rightly from last year it was only for currently unvaccinated cats - not for regular boosters.

I took a call on the branch line tonight and the woman was asking for the nearest CP vet. I rang her to find out what she was after. I assumed she was looking for neutering. She said she had vouchers from CP for all her 6 cats and wanted to know if she could get cheap vaccinations. I told her we can't help but also that it was good she was taking responsibility. She is on benefits but said all her cats came to her as strays etc. She was a really nice lady. She was quoted £60 with Leukaemia and £50 without per cat. She said one of the vets. I told her it is a matter of choice but a lot of people choose not to vaccinate older cats for different reasons such as cats building up immunity and also because of reactions. I told her that she should check the facts with her vet. She said one of the vets receptionists told her the older a cat gets, the more it needs it  - she phoned another vet and they said that wasn't true. Anyway, I told her with 6 cats, she should phone around for a deal. She is quite a way out of our area btw.
