is it nerve damage, angie? that can take months to heal, but if she can totter a few steps there may yet be a happy ending for her

just to say thers no news yet. She did seem a bit better 2 days aftr but she soesn't move a great deal anyway. I have been trawling net for wheelchairs (someone on freecycle has offered me a spare shopping trolley as he saw one maded from one on telly so mat give that a go)

theres also onfo with dealing with cats with paralysis but as she does walk a few steps perhaps she can get a bit better.

theres a video about living with a paralysed cat and they do not recommend wheelchairs.

I think hydrotherapy would terrorize poor Ebony!

This is a really hard one and I would also question how she has been looking after herself cos if she cant use a tray she should have been absolutely filthy when found.

makes me wonder whether this paralysis has come on quite suddenly, old injury or not.

Poor little Ebony , thank you for trying so hard for her

I wonder the same, especially if found clean in a well fenced garden, possibly shes owned by the 'finder'

Fingers crossed her acupuncture works :wish:

how awful to contemplate that this poor puss may have been dumped outdoors in such a state

it breaks my heart that animals that perhaps were once much loved, and enjoyed the comfort of a nice home for many years, find themselves spending the last months of their lives in such sad circumstances

I cannot find words enough to praise you wonderful people who take them in and do your best for them

HI all,

Ebony was found in a garden in Coventry with her back legs paralysed. The lady phoned up the RSPCA who authorised the £50 and she took it to the local pet vaccination clinic who diagnosed it as an old spinal/nerve injury and the cat as an old lady. Metacam was given for pain relief and the cat went back with the lady who found it.

The next day the lady phoned us up in a bit of a state as she still had the cat. She has 2 dogs and young children and was finding it very stressful to keep the animals apart and didn't know what to do with a paralysed cat. I told her to get it in to one of the vets we use for another check up and I'd collect it from there.
The vet said the same thing an old injury and to monitor her to see what her general health is like while we try to find an owner.

She's peeing and pooing OK, trying to use her tray, which is a plastic tea tray in her pen, though not with too much success. At one stage she did seem to be using one of her back legs OK, but dragging the other. Her toes are curled under.

Anyway, Judith and I took her to see Mr Webb today who has been offering acupuncture since it cured his 4 year sciatica problem and she has had her first session this afternoon.

As you can see , not looking to impressed by the process

Mr Webb says the same , that it is an old injury and the cat must have been like this for a few months - which beggars the question to how she managed to get into someones backgarden that has high fences to keep the dogs in.

Ebony had a series of 13 needles along her back and legs , they were left in for about 10 minutes or so and jiggled every so often.
At least the she had a good pee and poo on the table :-[. She wasn't really at all bothered with the needles (It was me with my eyes closed as usual) and lulled us into a false sense of security until she hissed at the last needles to go into one of her back legs.

Anyway, another appt. in 2 weeks and we'll see if there is any improvement. While we were there a lady that has a doggy pool/hydrotherapy place told us to give her a try but I don't know how I feel about trying that.

Poor old Ebony, she's been with me since friday and we have not yet managed to find her owner.
She's on metacam but doesn't seem much better yet - though 3 days is not very long. My vet does acupuncture and I may give him a ring tomorrow to see if he thinks it may be worth giving it a go (and see how much it costs)

goose's tail as an added bonus!
