Forgot to take my laptop home last night so had to wait til this morning to see how little Colby was doing and it's wonderful that the news is soooooooooooooo good.  The video is brilliant and those eyes at the end.

I remember the first time my lot escaped through the smallest gap in the crate .  Keep an eye on any bigger holes at the top Sarah cos that's where he'll head next :Luv2:

I see Nurse Herbie is keeping a real close eye on his charge as well :Luv2:

Hope he has had a good night, and that you both finally got some sleep as well.

Just wanted to drop by and see how little Colby's been overnight?

I've smiled and chuckled at his antics witht he cable ties, and that sad, wide eyed look on his face as he viewed the camera at the end - "look - they locks me up!   I wants ter be wiv Herbie!!"   :-:   He's irresistible.   :Luv2:  Think he has an enormous fan club, bless him.  It reminds me very much of Pedro.

Keeping everything crossed that he'll continue to feel "chipper" today and that he's turned the corner.  I send tons and tons of healing vibes for the little chap from me and The Padster, to add to all those from his other "Aunties" and "Uncles".   :wish: :wish: :wish: :cuddle: :cuddle: :cuddle:

Just checking in to see how he's doing.

Praying for you still, little one.

And, have to say, if we were near to you we'd be offering the gorgeous Colby a home too...

HI Hun

Just read through the thread and oh am i in tears of sadness, anger and of joy from the post today.   How can anyone, anyone who has even one brain cell  hurt any living being. Something i will never understand ever.  I hate those who do with a passion.

Darlin Colby is a wonderful gorgeous little lad and all my heart goes out to him, you and Paul that he thives with your loving care.

Sending a genal cuggle for him and you all will be in my prayers.  :blow kiss: :ahh:

This was a pic of him taken on my mobile after just catching him again!!!  wee tike!

And this is a short vid of him protesting to us covering up the escape hatch.  As paul said its hard to belive just a couple of hours ago he was so low and unresponsive and since he threw a chip... we've had all sorts!!!         Just hope its not too good to be true! :wish:  :wish:

well you're not going to believe what's just happened!!!  the wee tike.

Went out getting everyone else fed and watered for the night, went into the hall and glanced into the sitting room (where Colby is) Looking through the glass at me are Herbie, Misty and a little black cat..... mmmm but we don't have a little black cat in there..... OMG Its Colby!!!!

The wee rascal has found a gap in the bars of his cage big enough for him to get through cos he's so darn skinny!!!!    Got out so he could be with Herbie... when I went in he was just quite happily following nurse Herbie around!!! <sigh>  what a wee tike.   ;D   Paul has had to cable tie the gaps in the cage in a bid to try and stop him getting out again!!

YOu know all this has happened in the last few hours and I truly truly hope that it is as promising as it seems and not false hope for him to fall at the next hurdle.  he is such a little fighter so please please lets hope that this progress continues albeit perhaps I think it will be with some hilarity.

Janey - Yes you are so right... the difference we have seen in little Colby this afternoon just in bringing him home and giving him love and tending to him and making sure he has clean bedding, etc has been amazing from the very low, depressed little kitten that wouldn't even lift his head at 2pm today!

His little tummy has gone right down now and he has dispelled quite a bit of poo so hoping that most of it is cleared  ;D

Liz - mmmmmm   do I sense someone has fallen head over heels for little Colby!??  lol   fingers crossed

 that is such good news and I know it may take a while to get him proper well but things sound much more positive now.  I think you are so right about building him slowly it would be too much for him otherwise.  I am sure all the love really helps though I've said this all along with Schui but he was such a miserable little fella when we first adopted him and loads of love is what keeps him fighting if they have something to live for so well done you.

So glad that a chip was exciting although a little tiring for Colby, and that he is looking for his RC food - that novelty will soon wear off - usually they want all the others food!

If Sarah thought after a homecheck we were good enough for Colby will be welcome here to become a Clan Cat!!!!! :Luv2:

Excellent news that he feels bright enough to be up and about and has eaten on his own.  Definitely sounds like a case of little and often with regards to building this little man up

Like you say he's a long from "out of the woods" but every step is in the right direction so hopefully he will contiue to follow this route and will maybe be able to go live with Aunty Liz  ;)

hi guys,

wee Colby has had a restful afternoon with lots of cuddles and petts and has passed a good bit more poo!  :)  His mood has been up and down throughout the afternoon.

His wee tummy has gone right down and we can no longer feel his bulging intestine, which for now we are taking as a good sign.  We have continued to get fluids into him this afternoon / evening and on sitting down to have our dinner about an hour ago we had to throw our dutifull chip to Herbie (don't ask cos we don't know) and at that moment the little man leapt to his feet to chase the chip and let out a yelp!!!  as much as to say its mine... where's mine!   bless him  :Luv2:

To say we were stunned was an understatement.  So, in anticipation we tried him with some more RC Recovery food and he has eaten a little on his own terms :)  for the first time today.

We don't want to employ too many additional methods to his food at the moment for bulking / flushing as we want to give him a chance to heal and encourage his wee body to start to function for itself.  We will give him a day or two and see how things are going and obviously we will adjust things accordingly.   We do appreciate all the suggestions and are bearing them in mind as we go on and discussing Colby's case with the vet.

Additionally we don't want to bulk him up too fast as he is not only just thin but at the point of no return thin where he is drawn.... so it is important to take things slowly so as not to put any additional, unncessary strain on his wee body and organs especially in light of the enormous strain they have already been under.   :scared:

One thing is clear that it is going to be a long road for Colby and he still has a ways yet to go before we can even contemplate considering him out of the woods.  We are just going to take each day as it comes and hope and pray that he makes it and take things easy so as not to push on too much too fast.

Hope our little man can get a restful night's sleep, and that his bowel will start to function normally now that some of the pressure's eased.  Look forward to further updates.    As Liz says, with you fighting his corner for him, he stands as good a chance as any.

Food with Psyllium might help bulk him but if he is blocked, I suppose bulking might do more harm than good. Hopefully as he is clear, his body will start a natural rhythm. I have a lot of stomach problems and the nutritionist is against any kind of purging medicine and in favour of bulking things that encourage the bowel to work by itself.

yes we did    his little botty is healing up well on its own.... and we have him on the lactulose just now and will see how he goes over the next few days as suggested by the vet but have taken on board all the ideas and suggestions from everyone and so gives us things to try should he need a bit of extra 'help'!

It must surely be good that his little botty is beginning to heal .  My thoughts are with him

Pedro was on massive doses of lactulose and still needed countless enemas; the thing that has helped Pedro the most was adding Pro Fibre to his every meal and actually reducing the lactulose to once per day.
Also dont know if this helps but my vet prescribed Emla cream for a poor girl whose back end was in a similar state.

In all the posts of support, did you spot this one, MKR?   I don't know what your vet has recommended, of course...

hi guys we have little Colby back home with us :Luv2:

He is very very weak and struggling to stand.   They flushed out a lot of poo and have said they think there is still a load more to come too.  He is however for the first time hunched up on his tum with his feet tucked up resting something he hasn't been able to do.  We can still feel a mass in there so we just have to hope that his wee gut can help process whats left  :scared:

He did pass some on his way home while wrapped in his towel so when we got him home we had to clean him up a tad.  Wrapped him in a wee towel while paul warmed up his snugglesafe and he just lay there looking up at me and his eyes gently closing as I stroked his wee head :Luv2:

We've put him in his cage with his snugglesafe and gave him chin rubs and petts from you all to which he gave a grateful purr before gently closing his eyes and nodding off to sleep.   We will keep a close eye on him over the afternoon and next few days and wait to see if he can find the strength to get his wee body working again.  :Luv2:

Now that has bought tears to my eyes - purring -closing his eyes, that is a sign of being grateful and thanking you. AWWW bless that sweet little man. I hope he has a restful night and lots of natural poops, it's times like this you want as much poo as possible. xxxxx

Sarah so glad he is back home and can move a little easier - I'm sure with his snuggle safe and you he will hopefully come on in leaps and mounds!
