On a serious note, if you do get stuck, I've got a brilliant handyman I use at work, very reasonable rates too,

Aha.  Would he come to Fulham, do you think?

Great pic of Alfie Leigh.  I must be weird, cause I actually quite like putting flat packs up.  Hubby is a joiner and I can match his time with most

Good luck with the move.

Oh contraire chuck, nothing imaginary about it, I've been there and got the scars, both physically and to my psyche to prove it!!.

I hate the words "comes in a convenient flat-pack", convenient to whom? may I ask, for all that's holy it's not convenient to the poor  :censored: that has to put it together!.

Glad the visit of the doc to mum went well, I have to do a spot of self-assembly tonight, got to put my new super-szie cat (Frankie-cat)carrier together, already started to psych myself up, humming softly to self, "somewhere over the rainbow......." :)

Thanks hun,

It's that moment isn't it when you claw open the packaging, cutting your hands on the razor-sharp strapping  and out drops a tatty, half-legible and now increasingly blood-stained piece of paper showing an exploded view of all the parts and, in that split-second you feel your heart falling like a stone into the pit of your stomach. I have a bit left over from a computer desk I put together three years ago which, although obviously not necessary to it's function, still haunts me and it'll be moving with me. It's not that I feel like it's important but I just can't banish the thought from the back of my mind that I should hang on to it. It's like a half-rememberance of a jigsaw puzzle with a missing piece from one's childhood, I just can't bring myself to let it go!  ;D. It sits on the top of the wardrobe and on still nights I can hear it taunting me, calling softly in an accusing tone  "you fool, I'm cross-strut "J" and you don't know where you should have fitted me do you?!"

Cheers

I would offer to help with your flatpacks Leigh hun, but I'd be more of a hindrance!  I put a 6 drawer unit together years ago, on my own, it took me 6 hours, about 60 fags, and squillions of swear words

Its still just about in one piece, until you look at the drawers which essentially hold each other up, open the bottom one at your peril  :evillaugh:

On a serious note, if you do get stuck, I've got a brilliant handyman I use at work, very reasonable rates too, flatpacks is something he's pretty good at, and he's on hand to do my wardrobe as and when I get around to buying it!  I can you let you have his number if you need it

Good idea Sue, the most complicated part of the whole buying/moving business so far has been showing Alfie and Frankie how to use a Phillips screwdriver and Allen key. I have spent hours showing them how to use them and they still haven't got the idea, maybe they are deliberably playing dumb! so as not to have to help. At least they wont be moving until Monday by which time the air will have calmed as it will be quite blue when I am assembling the bed and furniture which usualy goes something like this :"What do you  :censored: mean insert long upright side member "B" into recessed slot "C" whilst holding retaining bolt "F" (presumably in one's teeth) and using a cross-head 1/16th of an inch screwdriver to faster tightly (presumably gripped between the toes of one's left foot), FASTER?, FASTER??!!!, it's fasten not faster!, I don't have a :censored: retaining bolt "F"??!!, I'm not a  :censored: contortionist and I've just taken the skin off of my  :censored: left thumb!!!, you  :censored: morons couldn't you get someone whose FIRST language is English or translate directly into English without going via Kazakhastani!!!" :) and then you read in very small print best assembled by two people two people!!, two people!!!, you need a  :censored: rugby squad to put it together!.

Self-Assembly-Furniture, three words which, taken on their own, are fine but put together are destined to bring the toughest of folks out in a cold sweat!. You only have to see how expensive it is to use Argos' furniture assembly service to realise that they are  :censored: to put together.

My nemesis is anything with drawers in it, or rather, not the drawers but the runners and guess who has ordered a self-assembly 7 drawer chest of drawers or rather a "chest 'o no drawers" as it'll probably end up being called!. It'll just consist of a shell with 7 letterbox type slots in which to post clothes which will tumble down into a crumpled heap at the bottom :). Oh and hinges, I have to add I'm not good with hinges, runnners and hinges scare me :)

I've planned this quite well so far Dawn, feel like i'm keeping pace with the game.

Cheers

Leigh

(Alfie, Frankie - better get the DIY manuals out, ready  ;) )

Leigh, don't forget to keep yourself a bottle of something nice to hand (screwtop's best - you might not be able to put your hands on an opener!) - you'll need it when you eventually come to a standstill, with an aching back and sore fingers.  :)   It'll taste so good when you can say to yourself "ours - all ours...."   ;D

Yes very exciting.

Next Saturday is going to be heavy, got three deliveries coming to the new flat, fridge and washing machine plus furniture plus bed. All to sort out assemble and install. Sunday will be a "spare" day spent at one or the other flat and Monday, a week today, is the moving day. :)

Hiya,

Their Lordships are being chauffer driven over to the the new flat in a friend's car shortly after the removal lorry leaves.  ;D

It was an accident of framing the picture but it does make for a funny picture, he did look a bit puzzled trying to get down as he's obviously forgotten his route up and so I had to show him :).

This time next week I'll be recovering from putting all the self-assembly furniture together at the new place and supervising the deliveries and it'll be my last full day in my current flat.

Cheers

Hi folks,

In the middle of packing yet more boxes for my move but just had to break off for a quick cuppa and to post this pic.

I spotted Alfie had jumped up on to of a 6 foot high pile of boxes and wedged himself in and, when I looked at the pictures that I had taken I spotted that the box next to him had a "FRAGILE" tape on it but as I framed the picture it read "AGILE" which really sums things up nicely as he was very "agile" in jumping up there  ;D

Cheers
