I couldnt smell things for years and its better to chuck stuff than eat something bad.....I also couldnt taste.

The only problem there is that I have lost my sense of smell completely due to a medical condition so unless it's green and hairy I have no idea if anything is off

If chicken's been in the freezer and has gone off, you can tell as soon as it's defrosted, cos it stinks to high heaven!

psychopunk , I had the same problem - stick a skewer or similar in it at the deepest / widest part - if it's cooked any liquid that comes out will be clear. Or you can cut it through the widest part.

No logs as yet but no instant whips either

It's been a nightmare trying to get them to eat separately - they're not happy to be apart at all and wait either side of the door for each other, ignoring the food they've been given

Thanks Gillian! I prepared the chicken this morning and Pipsqueak loved it. He doesn't have a very bad diarrhoea, just loose stools twice a day. If it doesn't get better or gets any worse I'll take him to the vets.

The chicken would be ok to use

it wont go off as such in the freezer but could get freezer burn, but cats dont mind if the texture isnt perfect.

Riley!!
My 7 month old kitten Pips has the same problem - loose poops for last 4 days. No change of food, wormed, doesn't go out. But before going to vets I want to try the boiled chicken diet for 2 days. I'm a vegetarian myself and have no idea about cooking meats. For how long do I how to boil the chicken? And what do you think could be the cause of these loose stools?

I've just cooked Riley his chicken, I was planning for them both to have chicken so had bought them a breast each on the way home. I then went to get some out of the freezer for tomorrow and realised they were out of date - BB Nov 08 so I gave Lu normal food and Riley chicken. Riley wanted Bozita and was trying to squeeze under the 1/2 an inch gap under the kitchen door to get to Lu on the other side who had Bozita, Lu didn't want his Bozita and I suspect he will finish Riley's chicken

Nope, he said he has no idea what may have caused it as he has not been scavenging or changed his food and they were wormed 1st Jan but that the main thing was that he couldn't feel anything abnormal ie lumps, which is of course a good thing.

Just got back from the vets with Riley. About 4 or 5 days ago I noticed loose motions in the litter tray, I had no idea which one of them it was and they were both acting normally - eating, playing, alert etc. It seemed to go away until last night when he had diaorrhea 5 times in a row in the space of half an hour. He is still his normal self, racing round the house, eating well etc. I've not changed their food and he only goes in my garden so no chance of scavenging.

He's had a steroid injection, some Prokolin (aka kitty face paints) and has to eat chicken for a few days. I've just had to hide his biscuits from him too
