Am pleased to report a fine specimen of a poo was removed from the litter tray this morning, just need a number two (in more ways that one!) and then I'll be happy  :)

Its good for alot of bacteria and i think it has anti inflammatory action in the bowel too so another plus. It treats giardia too which is a common cause of tummy upset.
I think thats the same dose my lot had when i had a case of dicky tummy jumping between them, they used to bring neighbours garbage home so i do wonder what they ate and i didnt see
It works quickly unless that was coincidence and they had nothing  :innocent: they would have been stalked for samples had it continued lol

Oh no, poor boys. Tableting one cat is bad enough, hope they fall for the treats...
Our vet also suggested a smear of butter or Marmite on the broken edge of tablets to stop the foaming.

Don't know whether its still available but I found Sutherlands potted beef brilliant when I had to give Tiny regular medication for his thyroid.  Its sticky enough to hold a tablet and tasty enough (to cats - although it is human food) for them to wolf it down

:thanks: for all their well wishes, I know their problems aren't as serious as other cats on Purrs are going through right now but it doesn't stop me worrying about them  :shy:

MM, is Metronidazole a good antibiotic?  The bottle says 200mg but the vet has broken them into quarters so each dose is 50mg, they're on it twice daily for five days - does that sound about right?

Metronidazole are bitter, i put marmite round them before pilling to help seal the nasty in or broke into an empty capsule, aslong as they dont taste them they wont foam up  ;D

Lu's slipped down without touching the sides (a fluke I think!) so no frothing whatsoever but Riley was literally drooling and that's just from it being in his mouth.  I've just been shopping and bought a few new 'weapons' - King Prawns for Riley (Lu hates them), Bernard Matthews wafer thin turkey ham for Lu and also Mark just posted on another thread about Webbox treats being chewy so I've bought a few flavours to try.  They tried them once before and weren't interested but I can't remember what flavour that was so have bought a couple of different ones to try.

When our Smokey had to take tablets I used to break a king prawn in half and stuff half a tablet in each, he loved prawns so they went down a treat, hope they are better soon

Just gave them their tablets - what a palava! They both refused it in a defurr-um and then Dairylea so it must be pretty nasty tasting stuff.  I had to resort to giving them it the hard way. Lu (who I thought would be the most difficult) was a dream and I evened opened his mouth again to check he'd swallowed as it seemed to easy.  Riley was another matter, he struggled and kicked and although the tablet went in 3 times it came out 3 times.  He was foaming at the mouth poor thing  :(  I then tried a defurr-um again but this time sealed it up with the discarded half of the treat.  He still refused it but was happily eating his Felix stick treat so I rubbed a felix treat over the defurr-um treat and he fell for it!

Have just got back from the vets with both boys  :( Last night Riley pooed (liquid poo) in his bed and then in his tent, Lu was sick twice and although I didn't see him do it he had diaorrhea on his leg fur.  I thought for a minute he'd gone in the litter tray and got some of Riley's poo on him but when I looked closer you could see it was round his bumhole too.

They had a thorough examination and the vet said if I hadn't told him about the diaorrhea he would have declared them 100% fit and healthy.  They're both still their normal selves and were both purring for cuddles this morning.  They've been given 5 days of antibiotics (metronidazole) and if that doesn't work then it's poo samples all round!  The vet did suggest doing fecal samples first but that would mean the AB's would have to be delayed by 3 days and I want them to get better sooner rather than later.  He said Pro-Kolin wouldn't be useful as they are having AB's at the same time and that there's no need to feed chicken as they are used to Bozita and have never had any issues.

I just feel so sorry for them, It's their Birthday on Thursday too  :(

Poor Pipsqueak

you wrote that you took Riley to the vets and he's had a steroid injection and Prokolin. What does it mean? Was it to treat diaorrhea or something else as well?

They were both to help the diaorrhea, the steroid injection was to calm any inflammation in his gut and the Prokolin paste is a pro-biotic and helps bulk the stools - apparently  :shy:

Spoke to soon  :scared: Just been upstairs and found a very runny poo in one of the trays  :(

The same here, while on the chicken diet it was ok, but today Pipsqueak did a runny poo again. That means vet visit next week! I really hoped I wouldn't have to stress him out by it, but his health comes first.

Tiggy's mum Helen you wrote that you took Riley to the vets and he's had a steroid injection and Prokolin. What does it mean? Was it to treat diaorrhea or something else as well?

Me too, I had an op in September which worked for a few months but I've had no sense of smell now for around 6 weeks.  Have a Hospital appt on Thursday but I think they'll only confirm what I already know  :(
