I'm definitely having the test done now, I didn't scoop semi solid faeces into a tube for nothing  :evillaugh: I saw Lu going in a clean tray after the diaorrhea episode and his poos were perfectly normal so at least I know that it's definitely Riley.

Sorry you didnt get away with not scooping  :evillaugh: sometimes bugs can be present and not cause diarrhoea and others suffer so i think a test is best even if hes normal again before the end of it!

oh dear, can you not pinpoint it to anything he has eaten recently? hope the sample can find out what is going on  I would just keep taking the samples Helen even if he is ok you have 1 bad one.

Nope, there have been no changes in food.  The only thing that might have started him off again is that they finished a bag of dry (chicken flavour) so I started a new bag of salmon flavour yesterday.  It's the same food they've been eating since they were a few months old though so not likely to have caused it I wouldn't have thought?

He's only had one 5 day course of anti-B's Gill - it cleared it up for 10 days, then one day of diaorrhea, then 6 good days now another bout  :tired: I don't want to try Lacto-B just yet as need to get 3 days of unadultered stool samples first and wait for the results.

It's back  :(  He was OK for 10 days after the antibiotic then he had diaorrhea again, I collected a poo pot the next morning (6days ago) and since then he's been absolutely fine, I even rang th evets yesterday to say there would be no need for a test.  Last night there were two 'good' poos at the same time so I knew that they were both fine and then this afternoon poor Riley has had diaorrhea twice  :( I've collected a sample from today and will have to get 3 days worth before it can be tested.

Has anything changed in their environment?

Nope, same food, same litter - no stress, both still happy, playful and affectionate,  It's a mystery...

Hope he has firmed up a bit today

I don't get it  :shify:

The worst of the diaorrhea was in the early hours of 17th Feb, they went to the vets 9am that morning and were given 5 days of antibiotics.  All future deposits were firm so problem solved so I thought. Thursday 26th PM I cleaned the tray and found two perfect specimens so I know all was well until then but then Riley then had diarorrhea twice just a few hours later in the early hours of Friday 27th, I picked up the sample pot and have had no deposits from either of them since, loose or otherwise!

One of the problems with constant loose poos is anal glands can get bunged up as well. Alice had this problem.

sorry to hear about Riley (and you: sounds nasty ). Have you tried Diarsynal (sp?) paste for the diarrhoea? It worked very well on Max once.  Maybe if it did respond to a.bs, the course just wasn't quite long enough. Hope his tum is better asap poor boy.

Is there something in the garden Helen that he could be getting at which could be upsetting his Tum?

Not that I can think of, hardly any plants and no standing water.

Has anyone else had problems with diaorrhea that responded to antibiotics then came back?  Purrs is a mine of information but I sometimes think too much knowledge is a bad thing and now I'm worrying about more sinister things :scared:

Am really not sure I can put it in the fridge MM  The garage is pretty cold so I'll ask if that's OK instead - especially as I'm on steroids so I've got my smell back that's the last thing I want to smell when I open the fridge

I haven't but adopted 2 cats who, we were told had sensitive tums (1 more than the other) and unless they ate Purina One had diarrohea, oddly enough they were fine if they ate that Timmy especially, anything other than that went straight through him.

Yes, he kept with the came antibiotic -but it seemed to takes ages to get better - i am sure the Lacto B helped as much .
Will have a look at what antibiotics it was as cant remember at the moment.
I am going to the vets later for some flea stuff, a worming tablet and poor old Smarties asthma has started up again and he hasn''t had it for almost 2 years -so got to get his tablets too.

I think he is just taking precautions and they often come back negative,

Franta has a bit of a dodgy tum for last 3 days or so but reckon its one of the foods or just too many biscuits.

I hope that Riley gets better soon ..............have you fed him any new types of food at all?

Yep, they were wormed 1st Feb with Drontal and besides they've never caught anything other than a drinking straw! I don't know if the vet is jumping the gun a bit with stool samples rather than trying stuff like Lacto-B - I'm not overly fussed about finding out exactly what is wrong with him I just want him to feel better  :(

Has he been wormed lately Helen - it could be parasites  in his little Tum?

When Raffiki and Mellika had a jab for the runs it was an anti inflamatory - the AB tablets made them worse but Lacto B helped.

Love and huggles for Riley  :Luv2:  :Luv2:  :Luv2:

Thanks Gill, do you know what the injection was? Riley had a steroid jab and pro-kolin (probiotic) paste on the first visit.  Then on the 2nd visit he had 5 days of antibiotics.  Did the vet give Winston different antibiotics or just another course of the same ones?
