 :thanks:

just got back from the vet and our vet wasn't on today  :( but had discussed Schui with the other vet who said that he had done well to go so long as the injection was only a 3 day one.  She said that she would give him a long acting steroid injection and see how he goes with that, she has also given him an injection which body builders use (can't remember the name) to boost his muscles up a bit.  Unfortunately she thinks that the prognosis is not good now and that the steroids will start to last less but she said you never know, and at least we can keep him comfortable until then

sorry he's poorly   If you have to give steroid pills, the prednisone seems to taste vile (foaming mouth if you don't get it straight down the throat) so if you can give it with something, that may help. On the plus side, they are nice and small.

Thanks all  he's had a tiny bit of food and milk this morning and has slept since, he just seems tired again though not as bad as yesterday.  I think the steroid boosted him and it's just that it's worn off.  Hopefully we'll get something sorted tomorrow to keep him a bit more stable.

Thanks Pav  I've not tried Webbox but have heard a few people on here talk about it although I thought it was a biscuity type treat so I'll get some of that anyway to try.  I don't think he likes hard cheese but never tried the soft Primula cheese but I'll bear that in mind if the vet recommends tablets,
awwww Jim  :Luv:

Oh i am sorry, little man is not feeling good  :(

Janey,if the vet decides is better to have steroid tablets than injection, i know you mentioned Schui has no teeth to take treats but Webbox is soft and you can make it flat and hide the tablet in this way he doesnt even taste the tab, also with Jim i used to put his tablets in Primula cheese and he loved it , does Schui like cheese?

I hope he feels better by tomorrow.

Schui seemed a bit wobbly again yesterday and today he's quite down again  :( was a bit sick this morning and not eaten much and limp.  Obviously this is what the vet meant about the injection not lasting, just giving him loads of cuddles today and if he's like this tomorrow I'll try and get the vet to squeeze him in instead of Tuesday.

thanks Gill  :)

Pav, Schui has no teeth now and will only seem to eat really soft food but the receptionist said that they should be ok to mix in with his food should we decide to go with the tablets.  I'll will discuss it with the vet though on Tuesday as i'm not really sure,  to Phoebe and Boy

Schui is very comical with his little table and the mess he makes and when he's done and has food all over his nose but with all his afflictions he still seems a happy little soul  :Luv:

Sending Schui   from Phoebe and Boy.

Does Schui like treats if you decide to go with tablets so you can hide the tab in? I have to say the tablets are a lot cheaper i got 45 today for Boy and it was only £4.75 but with tablets you cant just stop you have to reduse the dose  gradually, is best to discuss it with your vet and see which is best for him.
:Luv: the picture where he is having his dinner on small table. x

Right, I am thinking they may last longer with Schui because the long-acting ones we were told he could have when he needed and he hasn't had one for 7mths they do seem to last a long time and like you say the first time he ever had them after the second he didn't need one for months as if it built up in his system.

They did deal with her pre-cancerous scabs, and they did last a month in her, as you could tell towards the end of the month that they were just appearing, although after 3 she didnt need any for a while, and when they did start appearing again, she was having all the trouble with her tummy, so that was priority.

The two weekly steroid jab can last in their system for up to a month, Pebbles just had hers monthly for her scabs. Good luck whichever option you go down, and I hope it can buy him some quality time.

Thanks Desley, did they help Pebbles alot?

Thanks Kate I'll keep an eye on him, I won't take anything myself unless really desperate and I tend to be the same with the cats

Liz, that's what we were thinking although I was told that the steroid tablets can be crushed and are cheaper option I still think the injection may be less hassle but Steve said it sounds like visiting the vets every 2 wks so not sure yet I'll have a chat about it and ask her opinion before I decide.

Our Gracie was on the 2 wekly steroid and its so much easier than tablets and less stress to

Do I feel another lady joining the injection club - some vets - ours anyway will give you the injections to do so it is less stress for the cat - steroid injections are quite big needles and the steriod is gloopy again storage in the fridge = at one point the cats had their own shelves for antibiotics, canin insulin and steroids!

I hope they will help him a lot. They are pretty strong - I don't think you can give them more often than every 2 weeks (?). Swampy had one which made him feel a bit dodgy but the side effects wore off after 3 days. Here's hoping they do the trick

She definitely said steroid, she never mentioned abs at all although she doesn't know for definite she said she suspects neurological problems or a mass, he has had a couple of long lasting steroid injects in the four years we've had him firstly for gum problems which resolved when his teeth were removed then for constant snotty and sinus problems - which she has suspected to be due to either polyps or something more sinister like a growth.  The steroid injections he has had have supposedly been to try and reduce any swelling in there, I think she is thinking brain as he can't control his legs on the left side and his eyesight went on that side too.

Schui had his last longacting steroid injection last July and I have a feeling that she is suggesting he have these steroid injections every 2 wks to prevent a sudden attack like he has just had for more control, I have also spoken to someone today whose cat had to have steroid injections every 2 wks.

Hopefully they will help him lots

A two week injection sounds like convenia which is an ab and only suitable for certain things. It was no good for Franta at all, its best for abcesses ands infections but nothing in the brain.

Hope th at Schui confounds the vet

 :thanks:

I have actually just spoken to the vets to let her know how he's been and for her to review him.  She said that although he has improved alot given how he was last week she doubts it will last and that he will soon be how he was again so, she said to keep him comfortable if it was her cat she would either give him steroid tablets or a 2 wk injection - not sure if that means he will need it every 2 wks? (the tablets would be the cheaper option).   We are a little unsure so have booked him in for the injection for next Tuesday and I'll have a chat with her then.
