He was at top of the stairs when I got in and immediately started howling for food!

Its not like he hasnt got any....sigh but he wanted fresh from the pouch and tin!

He is not very happy about coming down the stairs although is OK going up. He just does one step at a time at moment and hope that will improve.

He gets on and off the bed OK and me on the sofa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you all  ;D

Franta slept better last night..................or was it I was so out of it that he couldnt wake me. always a worry.

He slept until 0800 and then woke me up for food and that food seemed to be non-stop for half an hour or so.

I then fell asleep again!

He had more food and his jab, although he kept moving at the vital time.....sigh

He had the other half of his food after but today was brighter than he has been but is now up on the bed.

Todays jab was the last one and I do have some spare meds in the fridge but need to speak to Gareth preferably later today.

It looks like he is coming through this bout but am not sure that all the problems have helped and he didnt eat, drink, possibly sleep much at the vets and they said he was quiet and watching everything.

I need to know how long the meds I have in the fridge will be good enoiugh to use and at what point do I start giving them again, if I need to.

Some time in mid next week I have to drive past the vets to get the cat litter and also pop in to collect a towel that they had shoved in the blooming washing machine, so would be a good time to pick up more meds if they have a decent life in the fridge.

Hoping that today is the turning point but know he is still not back to normal.

He came downstairs after midnight when I was doing the auction update and he was velcroed to me and wouldnt let me type lol, then he bit me and that was that!  He is back to his biting aand have been bitten this morning...............he is soooooooooo norty  :innocent:

Hope Franta was OK overnight Gill .  Like you I'd be concerned whether latest run of meds has gone on long enough and wonder if you have emergency supplies for the weekend if needed? If not, are vets able to put meds in post to you to save you having to make dangerous journeys on icey roads.   Have you checked length of treatment last time round?  I do worry about that handsome little man.  Sending strongest get well vibes

Then I went to change the tray and found that someone had missed it and all the liquid had gone under the tray on the carpet protector
glad he's a bit brighter.

Had this all the time with Tipsy and Pepsi (RIPs). They both stood in the tray (squatting too much for them as they got older) and managed a backward squirt all over the floor.

To me trays looked nice and clean until I was tidying around them, lifted the trays to be met by a puddle of old, wet, smelly urine  :shify:

Thank you all  ;D

Ummmmmmmmmm Sue, you got it so wrong LOL

Amazing how having Franta home again has sent me back to total exhaustion.........sigh

Hardly had any sleep because as soon as managed to doze off I was woken be meow meow meow etc .To start with he seemed to be hungry but by 0700 he wasnt hungry any more and he was by then sitting in the door way so assumed it was something to do with the litter tray, went and looked and could not see anything wrong.

Eventually he quietened but not till about 0900 so maybe got a few winks then but his jab was due around 10.

Managed to get his jab done OK, he seemed to be a bit down after it but sure it doesnt get into his system that quick, so maybe cross at himswelf for being caught  :shify:

Then I went to change the tray and found that someone had missed it and all the liquid had gone under the tray on the carpet protector, so sadly I think all his shouting was cos his meowmy was stoopid and didnt see this and he was telling me over and over that he is a clean cat but had an accident,..............sigh.

Birmans are just so human and get upset so easily especially when they have stoooooopid meowmys like me!

I am hoping that he will be OK while I pop out for a couple of hours to my art class, need to get destressed and also get him some felix to lick the jelly off.

I know when the fur came off the foster cat which had not been shaved the skin underneath looked quite red and the cat had to have the injections scattered about rather than in the same place all the time.

Thanks Ellen, I dont think its that cos he has been shaved at back of neck and more tonight to male it easier for me to inject cos his fur is so thick.

The site is no longerr red thank goodness but will watch for anything like that.

Only two more jabs to go I hope.

His neck is looking better......what is slouching of the skin Ellen?

It is where the skin comes away from the tissues underneath the skin and can actually die off (due to not getting any blood supply), the first signs is normally the fur falling off and is normally located at or around injection sites because of the fluid going underneath the skin.  I had it happen with a foster cat which the vet injected every month with Larabinol to try and combat the symptoms of Hepatitis which the cat had.  It is normally treated with Fuciderm on the affected area.

Glad to hear you have Franta home Gill and hope he gets better soon.

Just back home with Franta who sang all the way  ;D

Gareth said he had started to shout at the surgery so thats a good sign.

He was very thirsty and have left him tucking into some felix and he didnt eat much at all while away.

His neck is looking better......what is slouching of the skin Ellen?

Only two more jabs to go so hopes tomorrows goes alright.

He is very pleased to be home and I missed him so much last night although the other cats didnt miss him at all.

Lovely to see you Roz and I remember Purrs start so well and yes that auction was for Ron just like this one is  ;D We have reorganized and changed our look this year as you discovered

Franta and Ducha birman are now 17 and a quarter and poor Franta has a brain infection that started in Feb 09 with terrible seizures which carried on every few months until Feb this year. He was then fine until about 3 weeks ago when he just wasnt himself and then on Sat at aboiut 0100 the seizures came back.

Its thought he has an abcess on the front part of his brain and when it grows it puts pressure on the brain that cause seizures. Gareth his vet and Geraint the vet that saw him on Sat boith are inagreement and Franta has injections for 7 days of a powerful ab called marbocyl , its one that gets intgo his brain...........its a possibility that a longer course may help but thats on hold at present.

Anyway I am just so pleased to have him home tonight.

Hi Gill,

What's this about dear Franta?  I've only just looked in on Purrs after about a year (not because I haven't wanted to...it's just that it's so addictive and often very sad which makes me depressed and unable to get on with my work....I just can't the images out of my mind) and am amazed at how it's grown!!!!

Who'd have thought it when Tan's husband (Mr Fabulous) started it that night to get us out of trouble for the Chrissie auction....just as a temporary measure until CC was back?  The auction that year was for lovely Ron if I remember correctly.  Will speak more about the auction a little later.

So how is our beautiful Franta?  From what I can read he is at the vet surgery.  I hope the little babe recovers soon...bless.  Those little Birmies must be getting on now because they were quite elderly when you took them on weren't they?  I think last year that you were a little worried about Franta...and I've often thought about him and Ducha.

I will look in on this thread a little later to update myself.

Lots of love to the little fella (and to you of course)

Roz

Hi Gill have just caught up with yesterdays going ons, so sorry that the vet originally did not seem concerned but have had experience of vets like that and they generally think you are trying to tell them their job, or being over anxious and worrying about nothing, or that they know better than the owner, glad his attitude changed after seeing Franta's notes.  Yes I have a couple of cats that hate being in the pet carriers and will scream the vehicle down until they arrive at the vets and then take it out on the vets, vn or whoever decides they are going near them besides me.

Hope Franta is home soon Gill and on the road to recovery, the reddening on the neck could be signs of slouching of the skin which you don't want and was advisable to avoid where it was red and even more sensible to get things checked out.

Be careful in this snow driving anywhere Gill as it is only going to get worse before it gets better, should know am up north and we have major roads closed all around us and not exactly rural as live in a town but the county is classed as rural.
