Gill, just catching up with Franta's progress.  How's he been overnight?  I'm with the others - sod Will's feelings - at the end of the day Franta's your beautiful and irreplaceable boy, and no vet should be miffed if a patient's owner wants another opinion.

Thank you Alison and Rosella.

I know that Bristol is a very good vet training school and an old school friend daughter did her training there. As far as I know its got a very good reputation and that helps a lot Rosella to know that they care.

Right up the apples and pears to see what he is up to..........we both need a good rest

Fingers crossed that he picks up soon and doesn't need to have any further tests, so frustrating when they dont know what is up -  when Tiger had to see a specialist, I had to take a claim form there when I picked her up, and they dealt with it, same with teh emergency vet. The good thing about the specialist was that they dealt directly with the insurance, all I had to do was pay my excess and sign an authorisation form.
Please spay your cat

We picked up an elderly very ill female cat in a local residential car park in the snow in late 1991. We had her 9 months. She was deaf, virtually blind and I'm afraid finally died from cancer but I swear she was happy with us. Anyway just wanted to mention her Gill cause we brought her to Bristol University (seems before they opened the hospital referred to in Alison's link) and the people there could not have been kinder.

My business partner also had dealings with Bristol and her beautiful grey boy Noodles about 7 years ago and again she was very impressed with how caring they were. Just wanted you to know that.  I very much hope Franta starts to improve considerably overnight so that a visit to Bristol isn't necessary.

Hope you both have a good night's rest and if you feel like phoning them do so.  Don't hesitate.

Thank you all so much for your good wishes, I appreciate them all so much and so does Franta

We are back but its inconclusive I am afraid.

Going by the pattern of his attacks since last night they were about every 3 hours and he was due one at the vets and also he had been sleeping in his carrier, poor little boy walked into his carrier at home.

Rachel gave him loads and loads of tests starting with letting him walk around and she thought he could not turn left and was possibly blind but both of these proved to be wrong although he does seem to prefer going right.

Also he seemed to be deaf but thats not right either!

She is not sure whats going on but she says he definately is not quite right.

She has two suspicions, one is that is glucose level is too low and this is when he has an attack....this could be a tumour or other long names which I cant remember. The other one is that he has a neuro problem. His glucose level was fine when we were there but he ate Misdas food before we left.

He has just eaten again but its night that will be the problem and of course we need to know, so he will be staying in the bedroom tonight.

He also was dying to use the tray and lost 100grams in liquid and solid while we were there. She said he was full to busting.

Rachel has just rung me to see how is......so kind  ;D

She has checked his eyes and retinas are full attached and eyes reacting to light.

The plan is that if he has another attack tonight then I will be leaving very early to take him back to the vets for observation until they close tomorrow night and she will get in touch with Bristol University Hospital to warn them they may have a cat needing an emergency MRI scan at the weekend. If he goes for observation and he has an attack she is going to put him out , take bloods, check his eyes properly and do various other things that she cant do while he is awake. She will also test his glucose levels at that time before he eats.

She has told me to leave his ears alone, no more drops for the moment and she is hoping that the convenia will kick in for his ears.............he wouldnt let her look at the 'good' one which , may mean that thats not as good as it should be either. I did manage to get some drops in cos she can see them in his right ear!

So we are wishing and hoping for him to improve over night and have a good one but all the plates are still in the air sadly.

She has so much more knowledge than Will and he didnt acknowledge me while in the waiting room so I have the feeling he is a bit put out but I am afraid Franta has to come first.

I am hoping for a good night for Franta and she has said to fed him before bed.......I think I did last night but if its glucose levels it seems to run out within 4 hours.

I will post this question on a topic of its own  but does any one know where in Bristol the University Animal hospital is?

Thanking you all again for all your good wishes  ;D

Oh my God I have just seen that Franta seems to have worsened. It sounds like it could be a middle ear infection as that can affect balance and she might be yowling because she is scared and dizzy.  Hopefully the vet can sort it out and she will be back home soon.  Will keep checking back for updates , know you are on your way to the vet but safe journey
