Re the injections - I once shot my self with the antibiotic when finger got in the way - have had no issues since though! The injections are a lot easier and we have a couple whoses hides are in the vets words damn tough

We are back at home and have to admit I was a little scared in the car

When I rang the vets I spoke to Gareth and ge said that Franta was shouting and meowing for attention, and i said thats good cos its more normal and he said thats a relief cos they didnt know if that was a sign of a problem............sigh

Went to collect him and have been back about an hour and he ihas been wandering around and mwoeing and we have had a tummy stroking session. all cats have investigated cept Misa who was still asleep,

However just logged on here and went to look for Franta and I could not find hom anywhere! I had searched the house and garden and was back searching the house..............1 2 3 stay calm , deep breathe all rooms searched for a second time except bedroom ans couldnt see him, one last possibility I have a curtain over some shelves abd earlier Ducha was there cos he saw the cage and was hiding! Ducha was now on the radiator bed and yes there was Franta curled up on a cushion behind the curtain in the dark.........phewwwwwwwww

I think its all a bit much for him at the moemnt and he has checked out every room a number of times , done some head rubbing and stuff , had something to eat..............he is just making sure everything is as it was before he left and remembering things I think.

He has not had any more attacks and Gareth is pleased with him and I have seven syringes of Marbocyl sitting in the fridge, hope I am able to give them too him......I was surprised how tough thhis skin is but Garath has said that they have put on finer needles and they should go in easier. If I shoot one lot out across is fur I will need to go and get some more......its scary.

So its hoped that if I can do his jabs and he is still Ok on Friday then he will go back to see Gareth on Monday and we take it from there.

Gareth has confirmed that if I needed that terrible home vist they would come.

I dont want dancing bananas yet just one of these

cos I think Franta is quite stressed by everything at the moment but he jumped up on the desk twice and is bouncing more when he walks than he was on Saturday.

I do hope that he will be OK.

Hope our lad had another fit free night and you can move on to the stage of settling him back at home. Have a think about how you want him to behave in carrier so that, when he starts his usual healthy shouting, you are ready for it. So very much hope all goes well Gill

The situation at the vet's sounds much more promising, and I'm glad at least they're beginning to take on board your concerns and understand the problems you've been facing with emergency cover, travel etc. Sending out tons ofpositive vibes your way.

I also meant to say that one of the bosses at work had to go home early on friday because her 1 yr old son was unwell. Apparently he was crying a lot and kept rubbing his ear. He was also dribbling quite a bit but was not teething. It seems likely that he had an ear problem and that the dribbling was related to that.

That sounds pretty good news. Hope he stays well overnight. I am wondering if it was a middle ear infection and that is why the abs have worked. Surely if there was something sinister going on his brain abs wouldn't have dealt with it? Fingers crossed anyway

I really hope that Franta remains fit free and that he can come home, but I think he is best where is he for now because of the stress of travelling back and forth. What a shame you've had to transfer him over to the new vet because of the emergency vet situation with the other vets, even though you're happy with the other vet. That sort of thing makes me really mad. I understand why they dont' want to treat patients belonging to other practices, but the health of our cats is the most important thing. And if that means a cat has to go to a different emergency vet then that's what should happen and it shouldn't be made this difficult for you.

Thats very positive - it shows they have Franta's best interests at heart and are willing to do what it takes to try to make things easier for him. I agree with Desley - such a pity there's nobody near enough to come with you when you pick him up but we'll be doing the next best thing - sending mega loads of positive vibes

Afraid not trigger cos cats tend to fight against them when travelling.

However just had a call from Emma and Franta is still Ok and getting a bit more vocal but he hasnt trashed his cage yet, she said

She syas that he will probably be better to come home tomorrow but think they are just moving him downstairs to stop him being upset by tomorrows business.

They have already changed his ab jab to the morning and I will be talking to his new vet Gareth tomorrow and he apparently has just become a partner. Emma said he is very good with cats and kind and gentle.

The idea is I ring tomorrow and speak to him if he is free and if not to arrange an appointment to see him around midday. Emma is seeing him tonight and has said that she can see no reason for me not to be able to give him an ab jab but they will go throught that and teach me when I go there and that will save the stress of Franta having to travel.

She thinks he will be on abs for another week and then depending how he is and whether it seems to be necessary he maybe referred for an MRI. I have the feeling that she has discussed this with Gareth.

She does realize how long my journey is thank goodness.

I dont want to be too optimistic cos as someone said I am very supersticious but I am seriously hoping my lil blue -eyed man will be home tomorrow and not have to travel again for a week , if I can manage the jabs.

Emma thinks he will relax more at home with me........she doesnt know the other 3 cats

She said if his condition changes overnight she will ring me.

I dont want to think about possible MRI scan at the moment cos that will mean they dont think he is better.

I would so love to do some dancing bananas but need to get him home first

If Franta doesn't have a fit today or overnight, that will mean he's not had one for some time? Which might mean he will be ok at home?

I dont think we have pet ambulances round here Pav...........I wish we did cos that would be just the ticket.

I have a wire cage which is a bit bigger than my largest carrier and took both with me yesterday and put him in the larger of the two carriers to take to the Gower.

I discussed this with Rachel cos I was worried that if he did have an attck in the cage he may get a claw or a paw stuck in the wire while he was going crazy spinning and she said she would trim his claws but dont know if that happened.

Am waiting for the vet to call me to see what we do tomorrow and how his antibiotics will be adjusted if they are going to be given in the morning. I would suspect to half double them up to get it right would be better than halving it, cos reckon right now he needs no breaks even half a day.

If I am going to bring him home will take the cage with me too cos they have the large carrier there.

I would so love to have him home.

When the vet sent Swampy home so quickly (no-one was on duty all weekend) after his fitting, he put him in a bigger carrier than usual - one of those big, wire vet ones -and covered it well with a blanket. I know your journey is longer, so I'd say wait until you are comfy with him travelling. Plus have meds in case he does have a problem. On the injections, if they are sub qs, you can do them at home I would have thought, which will be much less stress for you and him. The vet showed me how (I was terrified the first time) and gave me a spare needle just in case of "non-co-operation" but they don't seem to hurt. Not like intra muscular jabs.

Thinking of you and hoping so much that Franta has now stabilised. He will be much happier at home with his mum too

Gill, regarding Franta travelling from vets to home, can you ask them to arrange for a pet ambulance to bring him home ,this way he has some one qualified with him in case he has one of his attacks.

Rachel probably would but have had to take Franta out of her care sadly and he is now with a new vets cos they have 24/7 coverage. I dont know any of them cept the vet on duty over the weekend and she will not be there tomorrow.

Gill re the injections, if Rachael would be ok with you giving them (after some practice) if they are needed daily over a long period, that would be good as surely it is no worse than insulin?a and really is not hard to do, having had a diabetic dog... because you know it helps you get past the nerves quickly
