Helen, you could look into a litter locker, which holds 2 weeks worth of used litter apparently. A friend bought one on Sat, I will get her to tell me what it is like - it was only £9.98 in PAH - if I didn't have trays in 4 different rooms, I would go for one.
Please spay your cat

Note we use 20 litter trays with wood pellet, clay clumping and paper so all except the clay are compostable according to our local compost guru!

My Cats Best OKO used litter goes straight in the log burner Liz. Alternatively, down the toilet. I'm quite pleased to get another use from it and it's eco friendly + hygienic. I appreciate not everyone has a wood burner though  :shy:

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

Thanks for reassuring me that it is ok to put it out with the household stuff.
I might invest in a small bin to put the used stuff pending collection though!

We take our litter to the tip and put it in with the garden waste section and in the summer we use it on our rather large compost heap in the woods with the grass clippings it makes for some wonderful mulch compost and it does go faster than the stuff we compost without the sawdust.  We also put some of the used litter in the compost bins

The clay we take to the tip but it goes in the waste skip

Wibblechick I dropped most of the cat litter the other day as the bin bag had a hole in it. I must say it cleared the snow :evillaugh:

Im now VERY tempted to approach our local cattery (walking distance) and suggest I purchase their used litter.

I could then sell it on to our Highways Department (at a huge markup ... of course  :naughty:) to use for road grittting purposes ......  :evillaugh:  As long as it didnt get in the "cats-eyes" on the road ......

Many years ago I used a mineral cat litter (Thomas) because the shop across the road sold it and I didn't have to carry it far to my home.

One winter, we had thick snow not unlike some of us have just had.

I was taking a bag full of "dirty" litter to the dustbin, slipped on the path and dropped the lot.  It went EVERYWHERE!

Very embarrassed I got up, dusted myself down and kicked the cat litter about in an effort to hide what Id done.

My elderly neighbour appeared  and said "Ooh, well done, Dear- Thank you for gritting the path!!"  I didn't have the heart to confess, and it actually worked quite well.

I now use the wood pellet litter and it goes out , double bagged, in our ordinary "landfill" rubbish  :)

same stuff we use helen and we take it to the tip or put it out with the normal rubbish although we always bag it and put it in a black bag and tie it off prior to it going in the bin.    I know if in an industrial setting then yes it has to go seperately to normal waste but when you only have 1 cat I don't see the problem.  So long as its bagged there shouldn't be an issue.

Some places have a double bag preference.  I'd just go with your normal household waste.

I used to put clumping litter out with the rubbish, but always felt guilty because it doesn't decompose. I would have thought wood pellet litter could be disposed off in a compost bin though, as it ought to rot down given time.

Bubz uses PAH's wood pellet-type litter and likes it,

Trouble is I am having problems disposing of it. Last summer I was very naughty and got my PAs to put it with the garden refuse, but the bin men have got wise to me, and I don't know how to dispose of it. Any thoughts very appreciated.
