Righty ho.....those who do not have a contact email on thier profile please Pm it to me.....

I have found a very good chapter in a recently published book relating to animal kidney disease. However I have no rights to access online. Mark you may have more luck as you will have more library rights than I currently do.

Thanks Ruth, I will look into it. So far I haven't needed to look anything up and have bought the basic books I need. We have also been told we can join the National Assocation of Biologists (or whatever it is called  :evillaugh: ) I think it is quite cheap but I decided to wait and see if I pass my foundation and what course I end up taking before joining anything. There is a lot of readinf to do so more likely I will wait until end of term. I'm not even managing to keep up with required reading as it is at the moment  :scared:

Anyone whose Uni offers animal science/biology/veterinary courses may have athens/shibboleth rights to access this title. Any Uni worth its salt will offer these services. Go into your library and ask for an athens/shibboleth account to be set up for you...it should be free. I can point you to the best sites. Or you can buy an account for yourself, but be warned it is EXPENSIVE. The other way to get hold of this book would be to request an interlibrary loan on this book, but this usually requires you to get a countersignature from a member of staff as each one costs approx. £15 to the uni so need to be justified.....

I'll try and send out the articles in the next few days... It will be one per subject requested.

Links to a professional body are good Mark, but like you say chose your path first..... ;)

CRF is of interest to me or anything about cats with only one working kidney who are not yet CRF, pre-CRF!

I'd be interested in the FIP/corona,  Stomatitis and the Renal dialysis ones please, and  anything else CRF or HCM related would be great.   ;D Thank you  :thanks:

Having 2 CRF kitties, I am interested in anything renal - I don't know how practical dialysis for cats would be. I even looked into kidney transplants when Clapton was diagnosed. The cost was £16,000. OH said he didn't think it was right to put a cat through it even if the money was available. I am curious about dialysis though.

Thanks Ruth.

Scientific Journal papers on offer-NEW TOPICS ADDED
« Reply #1 on: February 05, 2009, 22:54:29 PM »
Hi all,

I've been noticing all the poorly kitties we've had recently and been wondering how I could help......  :(

I have access ATM to online journals that produce articles relating to illnesses and diseases that affect our furbabes. Some of these are related to new and upcoming treatments for common problems that I see come up on here. I beleive everyone has the right to be fully informed about thier options- Vets can be nice, but still not tell us all (indeed they themselves may not even know and will appreciate the update- how many practices pay out the fees to subscribe to a service like this? )  :(

I currently have articles on:
FIV- its effects and possible treatments for prolonging life
FIP and Coronavirus- effects
Squamous and other types of external carcinomas
Stomatitis and gingivitus (and more severe forms)
T. foetus and H pylori prevalence
Colitis, IBD and Megacolon dietary and surgical treatments
CRF- Causes, treatments,Renal failure dialysis
HCM- Effects, possible treatments
and a few other topics such as safety study on Meloxicam, importance of comlpying to behavioural therapy etc.....

I will keep looking for more articles, but if you wish me to look for something specific sing out please!

I have skim read these articles for possible animal experimentation and refused to download those that blatently mention this- i refuse to condone these peoples behaviour by downloading thier crap. Be aware these are scientific papers so can be heavy reading but I offer this to you guys and your vets so that no-one goes uninformed  :)

TTFN!
