Help or suggestions needed

Im in the open door club.....Ive only 2 doors closed in the house and thats the bathroom and bird room!

and 2 more than me lol.....I have only one shut which is my studio with oil paint and stuff.

One of my four cats sleeps with me and gets quite upset if I stay up too late  :rofl:z

My bedroom is always open to my cats, infact they sleep in my bed more than me 

And I could not get to sleep on a night without a soothing purr in my ear, try it its very relaxing

Our indoor cats always hated being shut out of the bedroom at night.  They don't like the separation, I think.  Now there's only one he is fine if I am up at night - as soon as I go to bed he's taken to following me.  He's been sleeping in the bed lately too   

There's only two places in our house that they're not allowed, though - my sewing room (for obvious reasons), and the cellar (there are bricks missing and they can get through into the crawl space under the dining room, but not back out - as we found out when Edward went through one when he first got here).


But I'd say just let them in. 
If it's a hygiene worry, they're indoor cats, so not likely to have oicked up any nasties from outside - and I've had outdoor cats who've slept on beds and come to no harm!

We also sleep with 15 cats most nights and have a lot of others sleeping in various locations in the bedroom and ensuite we do however have 43 cats and 3 dogs - 2 are crated at night and the other one sleeps with the ones who don't sleep upsatirs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't understand your reason for not allowing them in the bedroom .....every bed needs a couple of cats

Go on ... let them in ... you know you want really.  The thing about cats is they HATE to think they are missing out on something and knowing you are in the room and they can't get to you will drive them mad.  You will probably find that once they are allowed into the bedroom they won't actually go in there unless you are there anyway.

Certainly letting them in would be easier. As indoor cats and of you are both at work during the day they will need yor company more than ever.

I have two fosters in at the moment who sleep on the bed with us and one of them is the size of a small dog and is quite a hefty boy. The upside is that when he lies on my side, it stops the OH nicking the duvet, so having cats does have its advantages!

If so mixed messages are being given out, they cannot understand why allowed in there one minute and not the next. If you do not want them in the room, then do not allow access at all.

Hi Dabs - thanks for your reply. We do try and keep them out of the bedroom altogether. Certainly during the day it is shut and we are both out, and in the evenings we generally keep it shut too. Our one weakness is in the mornings - they will generally get let in while my wife gets ready for work and i am waking up - so you're probably right, they are getting mixed messages. I'm now wondering if it will make for easier sleeping just to let them in at night?

Some cats are that keen on their owners they become distressed if separated from them at a night and I am dealing with a little foster girl who one minute was allowed access of a night and then suddenly refused, I admit that there were other issues in the home as well, but all in all she came here with some behavioural issues that needed to be addressed.

There are various methods, some peolple use sticky paws which is like a double sided tape, but ideally just give in an enjoy a furry hot water bottle!

Hi all - fairly new on the forum so i hope this is in the right place!

So my two cats are about 1 year old now and are indoor cats. They are both happy and healthy but, since we got them we have tried not to let them in the bedroom at night when we are slepping - in fact when we first got them they got shut in the dinning room at night, but we have stopped this now. However, Sebi has developed a habit of pulling at the carpet just at the bottom of the bedroom door in an effort to gain entry to the bedroom. At first this was just in the mornings (about 5am normally!!) but now she has started doing it from the moment we go to bed. It is impossible to sleep through because of the amount of noise she makes and so we are getting very little sleep! Do you think i will have to return to shutting them in the dinning room? The downside of that is that it was clear when we used to do this that Belle hated being shut up at night. I don't know what to do.....so any suggestions are warmly accepted.
