Pedigree didn't leave for that reason. They've been withdrawing sponsorship from all shows for the past few years. It's purely financial reasons .. they want to spend the money on their own campaigns

Also, the BBC are reconsidering covering Crufts http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/jan/14/bbc-crufts-dog-show-coverage

As for Siamese, I must say I do love the modern look. I wasn't so keen at first by looking at pictures, but after seeing them in person I've become totally smitten. I realise they aren't everyones cup of tea but I personally find them to be gorgeous and would love to be owned by one in the future  :Luv:

the kennel club came under a lot of pressure last year after a programme was aired showing the disturbing breeding of some types of dog.  the bbc has withdrawn from showing Crufts this year.  maybe there should be a programme about cat breeding to highlight the problems.

i had a look at pics of modern siamese cats but i prefer the old type personally.  the modern ones look too "messed with"

I think that the Kennel Club have re-drafted the specs for a number of breeds of dog, following all the hoo-ha surrounding last year's Crufts.  I wonder if and when there will be similar pressures brought to bear with certain breeds of cat.

Gillian pointed me awhile back to a site of original persians and you wouldnt recognise them along side todays offerings  :shocked:

I was going to say the ears look bigger than any Rex I've seen before but see they are a newish breed to UK.

I've never seen ears that big before (well on a cat anyway). Are they as mischievous as Rex?

Yes, that's a Havana Brown. In real life, the colour is really stunning.

The thing is, the head is supposed to form an equliateral triangle between the ear tips and the end of the nose, but in accentuating the slenderness of the cat and thus elongating the nose, the ears have had to drop down to the side of the head and increase in size. Actually, Siamese come in three different flavours these days; Modern (which is what you see on the show bench), Classic (who are quite wedgy and slinky but middle of the road, more like an Oriental) and Old-Style (which are quite rounded). The latter two types can't be shown, but they are available.

Sorry to burst the "eureka bubble" ladies...  :evillaugh:

They're Oriental Bicolours. :) A relatively new-ish breed here in the UK, but have run into them at shows. They have full championship status with TICA and I believe are at Intermediate stage with the GCCF.

Some kind of ORiental breed - hard to tell if they are curly enough for REx's, although not sure Rex's come in that pattern, I thought they were a solid coloured breed. There is a chance they are a mix, although not that much cheaper than a Rex, the Rex society told me last year about £375 for one.
