Sam's dental is booked for next Wed, at which point he will have the rest of his bloods done. I am just praying that his bloods are OK enough for him to have a dental, as the alternative isn't good, he can't eat a lot bless him.

He is certainly fed up of being in isolation!! I let him come downstairs last night, and he ended up sleeping on the stairs, as he hates Norman and Jeannie (Jeannie slept on the front room floor while I was watching TV) - it is weird, he doesn't spit at Kizzy much, yet does with the blind/deaf cats. Kizzy is similar too.

Me too, as his mouth was awful on Mon. Not sure about his tummy, as he has never been solid - we did try and Drontal him, but his mouth was wayy too sore. I do have half a Milbemax, but not brave enough just yet, I think I will give him another day on the ab's first - not sure if he will take that in his cat milk!!

I hope the anti-robe are working well for Sam, Byron's teeth looked no different so Christmas Eve I rang and we got another weeks worth for her.

Me too - luckily Sam's mouth is much less smelly after some decent ab's - the two jabs did nothing for Rolo too, if it had been me with him rather than Rach, he wouldn't have had either jab. Luckily he has been eating well, or we would have had a major problem.

I hope whichever vet was stupid enough to jab him before anything else was checked out is made to wait for a dentist next time he is in discomfort!

Vet doesn't want him on meds for his thyroid till we know what his liver and kidneys are like - I got the impression that while they were high, it wasn't overly high and obvious hyper-t. I also got the impression that the dental was priority, although now he has had a couple of days Antirobe, things seem much better, although not opened his mouth to look yet.

He would need a few weeks treatment for his thyroid before a dental so that should buy you enough time for the steroid to wear off?
Poor chap, shame he was jabbed before blood sample was taken!

that's how I'm getting Byron's antirobe (for her teeth) into her Desley! I open the capsules and sprinkle them into her milk on a morning, then she gets the other one in a little milk at teatime - she's loving it too because she's milk mad

Hope you can get Sam's mouth sorted - my vet did the abs for a year with Dragan cos he didn't want to risk the op but his new vet dealt with the teeth and he was much better for the last three months.

Sounds like his mouth is a bit of a priority - are decayed teeth causing the ulceration? Poor little Sam. Plucky little fellow too, eating when his mouth must be so painful.

his thryoid is high, but until his other organs are checked, the vet doesn't want to do anything more. Leaves me with a bit of an issue really, as the steroid jab is causing issues with his organ results, and I dont want to put him through a dental till we know what his organs are like - yet he does need a dental. Also have to figure out a way of getting the dental done by my vet, as the rescues vet seem to prefer the long lasting ab and steroid route and it did nothign for Rolo either - Sams teeth i think are slightly worse.

Thanks - luckily he is eating well despite his mouth, and I just have to work out what to do next week, as he should be seeing the rescue's vet, but I dont want him to have any more steroid jabs. He does need a dental though, but is going to have to have bloods first, and if they are going to be skewed cos of the steroids, then it is double cost and stress for him if done too early.

Well, due to fact that he had a two week steroid jab, the vets couldnt do more than a thyroid test, as the steroids could skew the liver and kidney results. His mouth is a mess despite the jabs he had at the rescue's vets, so he has some more ab's to see if these help. IT is a wonder he can still eat, there was smell from ulcers (poss caused by the steroid) and some blood - he then started scratching his mouth bless him. He was a nightmare to get bloods out of, so we missed today's courier, so we might not get them back till weekend.

Best of luck for Sam Desley, our first 2 cats became hyperthyroid at about 13 yrs (as I had it at the same time all 3 of us were on the same medication - Carbimazole - very odd it was!)

Max was diagnosed with a thyroid problem this year, which seems to be under control with Vidalta tablets at the moment.

Sam is my latest foster, picked up as a 7mo, but the rescues vet thinks he is around 11-12 with a possible thyroid problem, so he is going to my vets for tests today (they were the only ones who could guarantee results back this week). He's also going to have a drontal down his neck too, lucky boy. Once we have the results of these, I will know if he can be put up for rehoming in the NEw Year or not. I have never dealt with a thryoid condition before, but seem to have done lots of 'firsts' this year!! The liver/kidney side is being done in house with the thyroid going to the lab, hopefully that will be back tomorrow, but they are open for a few hours on Christmas Eve, so I should be able to get them then at the latest.
