PEPCID AC: anyone know where to get it quickly?

Zantac is ranitidine which you can get from any supermarket or chemist as own brand. It is the strongest you can get over the counter. Again, it stops acid being produced but not as potent. Something safe that might help is activated charcoal. It absorbs acid, gas and toxins in the system but isn't absorbed itself so totally harmless. It can't be given at the same time as drugs as it will absorb them as well. It is used for poisoning etc.

Thanks Ela, if there's 1 box you see, if you wouldn't mind grabbing it - but if not, don't worry. I'll keep trying various contacts to see if anyone can help before the new year and in the meantime, give the old stuff.
The locum vet doesn't think it would be harmful, just may not work as well.

Could you try Zantac?  I think it's a similar thing to Pecid and Dragan used to have it  the vet can prescribe it.  Otherwise I do have people in France and germany and Belgium I can contact for you x

It is only a 300(ish) mad dash through Germany to get to Austria, we don't really stop, only for fuel, but I will have a look in Innsbruck or Salzburg or both, it just depends on the snow situation, I know there is quite a bit where we are going and predicted to snow for the next couple of days at least. Do we care not a bit, we always have snow tyres on the car and the snow chains are in the boot.

No they block acid production. I'm not sure how. The ones I have are a different, newer technology which stop acid production but in a different way.

I rang the scottish co but they apologised as they haven't sold it since 2003!  I've left a message for the locum vet as mine is away - all I do know from asking my usual vet before about this tallies with the CRF site where it says must be pure Famotidine 10mgs and to give 2.5mgs a day, no more as it's strong. I'm not sure what you have for yourself, but I can try to ask?  - it's very kind of you.  Any idea if it may be all right to just keep using the out of date one until the new year, as my french friend says she will help me then - I hope they just get less strong rather than dangerous (now 4 months past Exp date)?

The google med info I have on famotidine says it's not really an antacid as such. All a bit confusing. The pills I've given him up till now seem to be working ok; I could skip a day and see what happens. My french friend will probably be able to get them to me in about 2 weeks time.

They are an older style med. The newer type are proton pump inhibitors. I have plenty but not sure if cats can take them. If you want to ask your vet, I can happily send you some. They are really effective at reducing acid production.

I need to get some tablets of Pepcid AC 10mgs (pure Famotidine : no longer sold in the UK) from either America or France. Amazon sellers have it but it's up to $43 for a small box with shipping, which isn't even very fast. Does anyone know where I could get some please (quickly: Swampy's tablets, which I only have because of Helen's kindness and generosity, have a use by date of 08/08 but I'm still using them as have no alternative - they help him eat).

My French friends are away or going away as I called a pharmacie and it is sold there. I've also emailed someone I know in America (she's a bit dozy though) but either way, IF that works, I won't get any before the New Year. Has anyone got any ideas please?

Swampy stopped eating and I think they have helped him to eat again....thought I'd post here to get more traffic than on his health thread, hope that's ok.
