I'd seen Alfie, on the cat chat pages about a month ago but wasn't ready to commit because of a work issue but the vets said i can foster them with a view to adopting them very soon.

It would be great if i could get some pics on here so i can let you see what they are like..

Thanks

Do cats get shy about using strange loos? Maybe. Otherwise they're not sure where to go, or don't need to yet. Wait a while longer before panicking. Maybe slip some olive oil (a tiny amount) into food, just to encourage the process.

When Sam first arrived here, she jumped out of her carrier and wee'd in the corner! "Home sweet home."
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.

An animal behaviourist recommended I have one tray for each cat, and one spare, so you seem to be about 2 down. Try at least two trays with different types of litter in case it is the texture putting them off ...

Cheers Guys,

I only have one tray for them, the vet advised this as thats what they are used to & they are restricted to the kitchen at the moment (its the easiest place to mop up any spils). Both have settled in really well already, they love cuddles & both were cuddled up in their beds with in a couple of hours last night.

Pics could be a bit of a problem my sisters spent the best part two hours trying to take some last night........every single one came out a blur. I think i have a couple of cats that have been trained by Linford Christie. Lol  ;D

Mine didn't go for about a day and a half when I first got them home, they spent most of the first week hiding under the sofa!   How many trays do you have?  To start off with, I needed 3 trays for them to go comfortably - initially I had two then Milly left a parcel on hubby's jeans (that'll teach him to leave them lying around!) so we upped it to 3 and they were fine from then on.  I think it sometimes takes kitties a while to settle and you just have to play it by ear for the first while.

Good luck...oh and some photos would be lovely when you get an opportunity  ;)

I had everything set up when I got Kylie - as I opened the carrier, she went straight for the tray  :evillaugh:

Cats take a wee while to settle in and one of those settling in 'issues' can be a reluctance to use the tray.

I would try popping them into after they have eaten just to make sure they know 100% where it is although given you have only had them since yesterday afternoon I wouldn't be too worried  - just keen an eye on things and you will prob find by tonight they have both been.

Hi,

I adopted 2 cats yesterday & i was wondering how often they should be using their litter tray?

I picked them up from the vets about 2ish yesterday afternoon & neither of them had been to use the litter tray until about 6ish this morning & even then only one of them used it for a wee. They both seem to be eating & drinking ok, is this normal?
