maybe your lucky because round here no money no treatment, ive even had to fight to get wild animals (especially rabbits with mixy) put out of their misery and yet there is a wildlife law that states vets must treat any injured wild animal and in my job as a coach driver i come across many injured (mostly too late to help )animals and where ever possible  try to get them to a vets, if i cant get i have the no,s of various org.that will come out.its the same with the PDSA on their web page they state that in an emergency NO ANIMAL  will be refused treatment no matter on the persons circumstances, when i needed to have Ninja pts (cancer )i was still paying off the £600 bill for Meg so my vet would nt treat anymore of my animals till that was reduced,i rang 3 other vets and not one would help , the pdsa said as i wasnt on benefit i didnt qualify,in the end in desperation i rang the rspca and they authorised me to take my little one to my vet to be pts and they would pick up the bill, my vet was ready to help then, but out of them all the rspca was the only one who helped me

You all know my stories regarding vets :censored: i have no faith or trust in any of them anymore after Meg and Ninja. all they are inteested in now is how much cash they can squeeze out of you, all they seem to do is  administer anti-biotics / anti inflammitory, the answer to every thing.i can remember years ago vets would never refuse to treat any injured or sick animal, now they would rather pts  then treat >:(

Well the little one must be feeling a bit more with it as he managed to spit his tablet at me this morning, a sure sign of improvement if ever there was one.  ;D

Yep, like you Des, I wonder sometimes what vets have actually been taught in vet school.

Aww, the poor baby, fingers crossed for him.
Slightly OT - I had a phone call late last night from someone who can't keep a cat she adopted from us cos he is weeing in the house - she took his litter tray outside, cos of the children, and apparently her vet (not one I have heard much about) couldnt understand why she had a litter tray!! Some vets really make me wonder.

Glad you managed to get him to the vets, hopefully he will perk up now.
My boss has loads of time off or "works from home" when his kids need the dentist/doctor/lifts but takes a dim view if I leave early for the vets - double standards if you ask me!!

Well, I have skipped work again this PM to get this lad to the vets. (I will one day get the sack due to the amount of time I am taking off due to vet runs, I am sure of it!) and he has had anti biotics and some eye cream. He is Felv and FIV negative which is a relief but possibly has an enlarged thyroid as well. So we will deal with the infection first and then worry about everything else later. He may well perk up a bit now as he was a bit flat this morning which is what prompted me to get him to the vets.

If anyone has the winning numbers for the lottery next week, so I can pack in work and just concentrate on the rescue runs I would be grateful.  ;)

Can no-one get him to the vet before Saturday?

If it had been mentioned what a state he was in at the first call, he could have been picked up sooner and been at the vets by yesterday. I was the only fosterer with a space and I am the furthest out from the vets. All our fosterers work full time and I have my son with me all this week for work experience, so I have had to arrange a full diary for him, apart from which I start a secondment this week as well.

As much as I would love to skip work tomorrow to get him to the vets (Cat, not the son!) it is looking unlikely. I have spent most of the evening thinking about him and thinking how I can get out of work early at some stage this week. I have spent so much time over the last couple of months leaving early or taking time out last minute for cat trips of one sort or the other I am dangerously close to akward questions being asked!

Apart from which if I lose my job that will not help the cats, 'cause I am then homeless. If I see an opportunity to get some time out then I will, but it is not looking promising.

At least he is warm and safe for the time being.

Never me misled into thinking vets know anything about stray cats or their habits.  :tired:

That is what I was talking about the other day. You can never tell until you see first-hand. I would make a point of telling the vet that you are in the process of making a list of recommended vets and they don't figure on it. I would also remind them of why they started vet training in the first place. Why don't the vets phone in these cases? I'm sure you would have authorized meds for the poor baby?

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

So annoyed!
« Reply #1 on: November 30, 2008, 16:26:48 PM »
The charity had a rehome request from a old lady that had been feeding a stray. We had no room at the time and as she was feeding and giving it shelter in her outside loo, he was not a priority. She phoned yesterday to say that she had to stop feeding him in order to stop him hanging around. At 8am this morning  :tired: she called me to say that she had locked the cat in her outside loo and how soon could I get over there!

I arrived rather dishevelled and a bit put out at about 9.30 to find the most pitiful specimen of a cat I have ever seen. He has conjuctivitis in both eyes, thin and looks very sorry for himself. She had give her a tube of cream for his eyes!  :censored: This lady spends about £40 every three weeks for her own cats medication at the same vets and they would not even let her have a tube of cream.

I explained to her that this is why a lot of cats come into rescue too late for us to do anything as they are shooed from house to house in their search for food and end up so thin and beyond help. She said that the vets had told her to harden her heart and see him go without food in order to get shot of him. I am so blooming annoyed, so he has ended up in isolation with me and because I work full time and can get no time off work next week, all I can do is bathe his eyes and keep him as comfortable as I can till I can get to the vets on Saturday morning.

I am grateful that she called us, but what the hell were the vets thinking of!! >:(
