I love Mojo's description of Chutney.  It conjurs up a lovely pic

Jaffa and Mosi both eat fairly quickly and empty their bowls.  It does vary depending on what they're having though and how much they like it or what the texture is.  Mosi will take longer to eat shredded chicken than other textures, although he likes it and always licks his bowl clean.  hi life essentials turkey pate disappears in a flash.  Partly because he loves it, but I also think the pate texture is easy for him to eat.  Usually Mosi finishes first, but he has less volume to eat, having half a serving of wet food topped with a bit of dry.

What does amaze me though is that although they eat fairly delicately, they're not exactly silent eaters

Clapton still has the street cat in him and hoovers it up - although he is begging for a 2nd pouch before the first has gone. - he always ends up with food all over the place.

Willow is a dainty eater and a pouch lasts her all day - she munches each mouthful for ages.

Kylie is also a dainty eater but will stay at her dish for ages.

Alice is like one of those cranes at the amusements - she hovers over the dish, mouth open wide, lowers her head and clamps as much as possible.

We have become very good at doing  this secretly

We have never, EVER managed that!  :evillaugh: ours seem to just "sense" when we are trying to sneak Mags or Cheese another serving. I think they can tell when meowmy starts sneaking around and goes very very quiet that something is amiss!

Ah but it may not last!!  Mr T seems to be able to hear a fridge opening from a mile off ....  the tinkle of a teaspoon suggests a milk opportunity ....  They might be catching on

My lot are fairly dainty - they both concentrate on getting the bowl contents cleared, but that is mainly because if they don't Shadow does it for them. But they will walk away when they are done and often leave leftovers for him ... perhaps why keeping his weight down is such a challenge  :(

Shanti is my dainty little nibbler, taking one little morsel at a time,  she always leaves some.  Her little head nods in tiny movements as she chews - none of this chomping business for her!  She has to have a dish separate from the other two as they tend to hog it all otherwise!  Meesha licks everything as dry as she can first, before eating a few lumps of meat.  Sabby is definitely the funniest - he loves his food, and plants his face right in the bowl as soon as it's on the floor!  Then he just chomps his way through it until it's gone!!  If Meesha (who shares his bowl) tries to get anything from 'his' side, he puts out his paw and pulls the bowl towards him right from under Meesh's nose!   Meesha will then follow the bowl and try to get stuck in again, and out goes Sabby's paw and pulls the bowl further away!  It is sooo funny to watch!

Indy is a dainty slob...

if you watch him he carefully licks all the jelly off the wet then has a bit of dry, then a bit of wet, bit of dry and so on... eats so neatly... but when he leaves his bowl there are bits all around it! we don't know how he manages it!

he never ever finishes his food either, always leaves a little bit for later no matter what size portion he is served. I sometimes wonder if this is because he was weaned early and semi-starving when we got him?

This thread has made me laugh with all their funny eating habits :) In our house Ozzi gets fed in the kitchen but not before Leo has tasted it for him then Leo and Larry eat together in the conservatory, constantly swapping bowels with each other  Usually by this time Ozzi has hoovered his up and then comes looking to steal what ever is left off them. Cats who'd have them

Chilli is a delicate measured eater.

Dave is very messy, doesn't matter what it is, dry or wet, there is more out of the dish than in after a while. Once he's eaten what is in the dish he finishes what is round the dish. Eats like a horse too, immediately looks for more no matter how much he's eaten

That made me laugh Dawn, Byron circles my feet when I'm filling her dish and Schui rears up like a little horse, he very often does a backflip bless him  :) :Luv: Byron eats quite quickly but she isn't a greedy cat.  Schui likes to eat little and often and best of all hand fed!  I love to hear them both on a morning having their cat milk which they love purring and nomnomming  :)

:evillaugh: everyone seems to have the problem of having one hoover and one slow eater.

Oh, yes!!  Chloe is a dainty little lady who picks and likes to "graze".  Mr T who probably definitely had to compete for his food in the past eats like food is about go out of fashion . . .  Once he has finished his, he will wait until Chloe has finished,  then have a quick look round and if no-one seems to mind will finish her portion.  We wait until he is stuffed full, and has left the kitchen, then top up Chloes bowl with a handful of biccies.  We have become very good at doing  this secretly  as if we rattle the biccy container too much, 2 little furry people re-appear and look at us as if to say "Cool!  The time between meals has sure got shorter!"
It keeps Chloe happy if she needs to nibble and Mr T doesnt usually pinch the 2nd helping! Dont know why!

:evillaugh: everyone seems to have the problem of having one hoover and one slow eater.

Cheese is the slow eater in our house, she has to be fed away from the others cause she is feisty at all other times, but if Gerti or Doc approach to eat her dinner she will just slope off!

Gerti is the worst, she gobbles hers all up and then starts lurking around the others for their dinner. If Cheese notices Gerti is watching her she will just walk off  :( (This is weird because Gerti is the soppy shy one!)

Doc is an absolute feline dustbin, a pea rolled off Phils plate the other day and he went to pick it up but Doc had hoovered it before he got a chance. A pea!  he is a sneaky little thing and if he knows he is eating something he shouldn't, if you pick him up to take him away from it he will lunge forward and get one last mouthful!  :tired:

Magnolia has to eat seperate as she gets bullied by the 'Trude too and so she gets fed in a different room. She has realised this and will go stand in the living room waiting and will go round in little circles waiting for her dish to 'land'  :Luv: Magsy had been used to eating scraps I think, cause she eats ANYTHING she can get her paws on.

Milo is the hoover and Jess is the picker in our house.

We often have to watch Milo as he will get closer and closer to Jess's food and then sneek a paw in to swipe a chunk or 2  :evillaugh:

Mango likes to Hoover very quickly and will then try to get at Chutney's food (we have to stand between them and bless Mango she won't go any closer)  :Luv2:

Chutney however prefers to eat her dinner on a placemat on the dining room table and will take a dainty bite.....look around...... swallow......lick lips....... then take another dainty bite..........look around.........swallow.......lick lips etc etc which can take an AGE!!!!!! :innocent:

Ging and Grwndi are the "biters" they will just tuck right in but then you could forgive Ging for doing this as he only has 1 tooth left :Luv: Rameses on the other hand licks all the jelly off his food first then eats from the outside inwards(I'm talking wet food wise here) and considering he's the youngest and he's also a boy he's such a dainty eater,he does love his food but he always leaves 1 or 2 chunks of meat, dunno what the reasoning for this is though as I am sure if he really wanted to he'd finish the whole lot but theres always a couple of chunks left with our Mr Rameses :)

Forgot to add though,Ging and Grwndi eat together and if Ging is still eating Grwndi will wait for Ging to finish before finishing what he doesnt want, the thing is Ging constantly asks for food and it doesnt half drive me nuts,he's already had 2 pouches this morning where as the other two were happy with what they had first thing :shify:

How do they eat?
« Reply #1 on: November 25, 2008, 11:30:05 AM »
I had just put down breakfast for my two and was watching them eat it while I had a coffee.  It just struck me how different their eating habits are.  Sophie is very dainty and nibbles from one edge inwards, taking her time.  Oscar is more like a vaccuum cleaner on full sucking mode and hoovers his up at a rate of knots.  I always have to plonk him in the other room as soon as he finishes so he can't "help" Sophie with hers.  Have any of you noticed differences with your puds?
