TB can and does affect various parts of the body though Pulmonary TB is most common.

Homer is going to need special antibiotics for a long time ask your vet to investigate the use of Rifampicin Also find out if vet had sample cultured beyond the TB positive stage to find out which mycobacterium is affecting him this is important. The vet probably cant make predictions because more than likely she doesnt know herself.

Back to the Vet today to have stitches removed everything has healed up ok and Homer can finally get that awful buster collar off and get back into the big outdoors.

The tumour turned out to be TB (tuberculosis) - Now I thought that TB only occurred in the lungs but apparently you can get it anywhere, does anybody have any experience of this? The Vet would not be drawn on outcome or likely prognosis, she just told me to keep an eye on him and to see how it goes. Now I don't blame her not wanting to make predictions but I could tell by the look on her face that it may not be good.

can you confine him to the bathroom? less soft furnishings to destroy there, and as long as it is heated, he would be quite safe ... Under no circumstances let him out with a collar on, and do not remove it without your vet's say-so as you will be facing a rather longer period of mayhem if he damages himself as a result.

It has not turned out to be as bad as I expected. I did catch Homer about to pee in front of the washing machine and I put him in the litter tray where he did the most enormous pee. He would like to go out because he keeps scratching at the cat flap and it is awkward for the other cats as well but I am hopeful that we will manage.

Fingers crossed for him, i have only had this once, with Ginger - he sulked for the full 10 days (he had dental and fatty lump removed from his side), and only went every other day.

The litter tray has not been used yet - 24 hours? I hope he has not found a nice corner somewhere and gone there instead, no doubt I will smell it before too long.

Parrot has also freaked out I don't know whether it is the buster collar that she does not like or the fact that Homer looks and smells different.

Bryony I am sorry about Casper, I knew that he had an RTA but I did not realise that he had his leg amputated, I hope he is getting on ok.

Over the years we have taken hundreds if not thousands of cats in who we know have never has access to a litter tray in their life, I cannot recall one who has not gone on to use one, in fact the worst culprits are those who have always had access to a tray

I find it easy to keep a cat in who may have always had plenty of outdoor access. I just think to myself I am the adult I know better than you mate.

Id opt for the one room, if he got out with a cone on he could get himself in a right pickle! I have this problem with Magoo, he has 9 days before checkup and must wear cone until then

We have had this problem with Casper since his amputation. No going out for a long time, for the first week he was confined to a dog cage, now it has moved on to cage when there is no-one home and at night and has gone from access to only the kitchen to access inside the house but not outside. Occaisionally he attacks the catflap because its locked and he doesn't understand why he can't go out and play, but he was actually worse when it was kitchen only for wailing by the door to go into the hall.

Its a case of being cruel to be kind really, and he will use the tray, Casper was a toilet outside cat before and used it fine (although had some aiming problems, due to the sudden lack of one back leg!)

Don't have any advice to be honest, my boy has always been an indoor cat and still tries to get out sometimes, so think you'll have to be extra vigilent with doors and windows etc, and make sure Homer has lots of fuss to help cope with being kept inside for a while.

All I can say is he will use a litter tray if that's the only option he has ... cat's are VERY clean so I wouldn't worry about him not using it.

If you are going to give him free roam in the house ... BE EXTRA vigilant when opening doors ... he will be determined to escape and he will be quick!

Could you not confine him to a specific room in the house with food and litter try for the time he needs to be kept in? otherwise I'd invest in a dog cage just until he's allowed back out

Invest in a set of ear plugs, plan no sleep during grounded period!

Try and enocourage them to play with anything to take their mind of the dood, mix some compost in to the litter tray to fool them in to thinking the outside has come in - we have to do this with ferals till they decide home comforts are good

It really is a case of being a hard bad parent - always try to make it OH then the cat thinks you are the nice one!

You have to become an expert at getting through doors and checking cat is still in place, we have a couple of would be escapees - usually about 10,30pm when me and the dogs are going walkies and feral cat heatpad placement

No help with keeping him in I'm afraid as Smudge, my last cat that was outdoor would cry at 3.00 a.m. for me to let him out for a wee and I would feel so sorry for him and stand on the doorstep in the freezing coled until he had finished and take him back to bed with me.

Homer is just recovering from surgery, I have not seen him yet but I have spoken to the Vet and she says that he is coming out of the anaesthetic ok. Homer has had a tumour on his leg removed which is being sent off for analysis. My problem is that the Vet informs me that Homer will be wearing a buster collar and will need to be kept in for a week - that is my dilemma.

Homer loves his freedom and has not used a litter tray for twelve months, the wound really needs to be kept clean.

Any advice pretty please?
