Memphis in vets with Blocked Bladder - *He's fixed now*

I'm not 100% sure, but if the vets say that the animal has been treated for that condition before, then its classed as pre-existing, whether claimed for or not?

I *think* the insurance company would exclude it because if you tried to claim in the future for the same thing they would ask whether he has suffered from it before, and he has.

This is my understanding of it! I am now stuck with Direct Line for Jess for this exact reason. I don't claim for his tablets as I buy them cheaper online.

I have an insurance question ......

Never have understood the pre-exisiting part. I know ongoing is something like Diabetes etc. But what do they mean by pre-existing (need to know what to do when I renew his insurance next year  ). The vets have said he's fit and healthy now. So there's nothing actually wrong with him now, for all we know it could have been a one off. Or do they say things like this are likely to happen repeatedly therefore its excluded?

Just phoned Ollie up and Memphis is in the clear  No crystals and good concentration. He's going to still have his urinary food but going to add in some c/d dry as Memphs is really missing some crunch and the s/d hasn't been filling him up.

What a rip off with the taxi.  The firm I used when I had to take Jaffa to the vets a few weeks ago were very good.  Helpful and only charged me about £2 for the journey (it isnt far - couple of miles) and the same for the return journey.  They were quite happy to take Jaffa in his basket. 

I'm glad they got the sample and he's home.

I think it's more a control thing - ie the vet knows exactly what is going in his body so can rule out food if something isn't working right, and also making sure no crystals have the chance to form, (the food dissolves them by making the urine more acidic). Ollie said that when his urine is showing no crystals we can start to be a bit more lax with his diet, but I think it will still be quite restrictive for a while now

I had same probs in London and the vets called a cab for me to take Kocka home and he turned up and refused to take us. Another company used to send an old dirty car that smelt of tom cats!

On the other side of coin , when having to rush Kocka to vets in night, had a lovely guy who charged me a very good rate and also waited outside to take me home........without Kocka who had to stay................and didnt charge me any waiting time.

Thanks BC, was wondering if it was something to complain about. When I phoned up I asked how much it would be to go to the vets, collect him and return home. The company said £8. I was in and out of the vets in a flash as had told them I would have a taxi with the meter running. They had Memph all ready and waiting  Got home and the driver said it would be £12  then he complained that you wouldn't get anywhere on £8. However, the vets are 1.1 miles away (so total journey was only 2.2 miles) and takes approx 4 minutes to get to by car, plus there was no traffic. They charge £6.50 - £7 for a trip 3 miles away which nearly always results in being stuck in traffic. Such a rip-off 

No news on the results front yet. But they did say Ollie would be calling within the next few days.

suggest you report the taxi driver as he was trying for a bit of extra money his employers would never have seen. When you call the taxi company and tell them you are collecting an animal from the vets, that information is provided when the call goes out. It was his choice, and he clearly only took it cos he thought he could rip you off.

Den, won't be too much longer before you won't need to get a taxi and they can stick their attitude where the sun don't shine.  Have encountered similar drivers with similar attitude or the "it's a £20 surcharge for pets to guard against accidents in the cab".

No treats  He's on such a strict and restrictive diet. The only thing he's allowed to eat is a tin of liver s/d every day. He's not had anything else for the past month even though he's quite clearly craving things.

The thought of the taxi driver telling me to put him in the boot did run through my mind actually  His attitude was absolutely awful.

How is he this morning

The sedative has worn off now. I'm glad as he was still really bad when I went to bed at 11 .. he would try to walk around but fail miserably as his back legs kept collapsing then he'd just stay in that one spot all hunched up (as he couldn't sit up straight). He spent most of the evening with his mouth partly open, tongue hanging out and a lot of dribble  I would like to know what they gave him, because he was unbelievably out of it.

However, this morning he's not talking to me at all

  BC he doesn't even like them walking past the kennel let alone talking to him 

He's home!!! I'm trying my hardest not to laugh because he's as drunk as a skunk. He has no control over his back legs and has fallen over about 100 times. He weed in the carrier on the way home though  So now he's stinky wet (luckily though I picked up those pet grooming wipes from PAH which are fab  ) so gave him a wipe down.

I'm fuming over the taxi driver - I swear I'm never getting a taxi ever again. Cannot wait to drive myself. Anyhoo I was coerced in getting a taxi there and back. The guy first said "oh are we picking up a pet" I told him yes a cat in a basket. Then he was like "good as I don't want any pets in my car  " I was in and out then he tried to charge £4 more than what we were told it would be on the phone. I hate taxis at the best of times and will always try to avoid them, but now I'm put off for life.

when I was working for the vet I was the 'lucky' one who got cats like memphis out of their run. I found making friends through the wire a very good start (but don't tell my former employer, he thought I was a miracle worker  ) Glad they managed to get the sample though. Poor Memphie!!

Well I said they'd have trouble but they wanted to keep an eye on him.

Good news though. They sedated him ("quite a heavy sedation" were their words). They got the sample so he will be coming home. I can collect him at 6:30  He's going to be extremely groggy but at least he will be home.  And he shouldn't need to go back, which will be a relief.

surely stressing him out is likely to make the problem recurr - maybe you could suggest bringing him home tonight and try to get the sample - he may be more willing to "go" in his own home - big huggles for the lovely Memphis - I am sure they must be confusing him with another cat

Erm, Ooops!!!

I just phoned the vets as I haven't heard from them and they close in less than 2 hours. Apparently he's not produced anything so they want to sedate him. But they can't get anywhere near him. They can't even open the door without him flying at them  He apparently resembles the spawn of satan  So they are having a committee meeting and phoning me back in a bit but it looks like he's not coming home tonight  They are hoping he goes over night, otherwise it's sedate him tomorrow (and I think they will probably be playing rocks paper scissors to decide who the lucky person is!).

Oh he's definitely got an evil side to him. He's got quite the nasty bully in him,  just ask Molly  Last night she was fast asleep on the floor and he came over and turned into Count Dracula. But yeah he gets very moody at the vets. You know when you see those clips on tv of cats growling, hissing spitting etc that would be him, only he's worse 

I'm sure he must be Rameses's long lost brother
