Nope, no metacam. I thought he was going to come home with a bottle on Friday but he came back with nothing. I actually do have a bottle in the cupboard which I had for Mig but I think it's been open for a bit too long now and sould be disposed of.

  to the poo!    It sounds like he still has some irritation or something that is making him feel as though he wants to go all the time.  Did the vet not give something like metacam?  I think the combination of painkiller and anti inflammatory sorted out Jaffa really quickly.  I know there are potential probs with metacam, eg in cats with kidney problems, but I think that really helped Jaffa get back to normal.  he's finished his antibiotics today and everything seems fine with him (touch wood).

here's another cracker for your Mum's phoneline    the vet told me to gently massage the ahem area that could get blocked as it can help a bit with urinary infection problems and blockages. Then he says wash your hands!

As to the child mmmmm  I suppose the sentiment was right  even if th gender was incorrect .....  Am I abnormal in respecting my daughters decision not to have any kids - she said she prefers cats - I did something right while I was bringing her up!!

He's baaaaaaaaaaaack and he really is back 

Matt checked and Memphs bladder is indeed very empty. So he came to the same conclusion that I did which was .. he didn't need to go but felt like he did. So Memph got his anti-inflammatory  He is however constipated  So he has a mild laxative paste to loosen things up a bit. I got him home and let him out and he was running around, jumping, purring loudly and he jumped on me and gave me tons of headbutts!! He's not been like this since the start of last week!

We were just about at our front door when we got launched at by a little girl screaming and shoving her face right in his "omg mum it's a cat, ooo isn't SHE lovely"  Ack, I hate kids

Someone once told me that people who bug phones (have to be careful here - I better not call them bug***s!) listen for particular references - we used to say things like "I was bombing down the motorway .... HE HAD A POO

Ok so it was the most pathetic looking tiny thing. I heard a lot of digging around in his litter tray so went to investigate and he was covering it up. He did a few celebratory laps around the house and is now eating 

If he thinks that means he's getting off going to the vets he is very much mistaken  He's had like 5 or 6 'wees' in the past hour so he's still not 'normal'.

This has made my day - hasnt even dented my lunchtime appetite   Hope all continues to go well!

His litter tray looks like it's got the chicken pox with spots everywhere  I even phoned my mum up so she could keep track (she works for the government and you get a recorded message saying "Welcome to **** your call may be recorded or monitored for lawful purposes blah blah blah" She answered the phone and I immediately said "HE HAD A POO" so gawd knows what they think if they listen to anything I say 

I hear the litter tray get again .. so off to investigate

I think  vets visit is a good idea , just to be on the safe side. It will also set your mind at rest.

Thanks Kirst. It's just all so hard. On one hand I keep saying to myself he can't be blocked as he's producing urine which is good. But on the other hand I keep saying but it seems to be getting less today. Then I keep reminding myself that he's probably run out of urine with the amount of times he's been over the weekend (all added up)  Of course at the back of my mind there is the fear of him getting blocked again and having to go through it all .. and I don't want another day/night without him 

And all through this Molly and Mig are getting neglected because every waking minute I'm keeping a constant eye on Memph  I tend to wait for Memph to fall asleep then give Molls a ton of fuss .. so far today Memphis hasn't slept

So I caved in and we are off to the vets later. I just phone Matt and had a little chat with him. He's confident that there's no blockage .. just some cats don't produce a lot when they wee and he thinks that Memph because there's no straining. Just hardly any wee! He is going to check him for constipation though, and have a feel of his bladder. Matt said he would expect him to be back to normal .. now I don't know whether I'm just really paranoid but at times he doesn't seem normal (I hear the litter tray  ). Today he seems quite distant and not his usual bouncy self.

Glad to hear he is eating the food though thats one less thing to worry about.

We had the same issues with Jess when he came home, in fact after 4 hours I took him back as I was so worried about the cystitis he literally was going from tray to tray and via a bed and weeing in them all. He ended up having an a/b jab.

I've only just woken up 

He seems ok in himself, he's eating .. I've just given him half a tin of s/d with water mixed in  his belly is perfectly flat. When he was blocked you could feel a large very hard belly which was his full bladder. I did a litter box check and there was a wee in it of an acceptable size .. still not huge though 

However, I'm on poo watch now as he ate 1 tin on friday when I brought him home, 1 tin yesterday and theres not a poo in sight

tiny update ...  he's completely acting like himself, he's had a good run around. Doesn't appear to have a sore tummy and he doesn't have a firm belly. Plus he had a wee earlier then a slightly larger one after. So I'm fairly confident there's no blockage.

I've noticed he's not had anything to drink that I've seen today so compared to the number of times he's been to the toilet I'd be surprised if he has a lot if anything left in him.  As a result I mixed some water into his remaining food. He then wouldn't touch it  so I tried hand feeding him and he devoured nearly all of it. I have also mixed a teeny bit into a bowl of water so he now has a bowl of liver flavoured water .. yum!

If there's no change by tomorrow I'll phone the vets up and see if he can get an anti-inflamatory or pain meds or something so he feels more comfortable. I've been keeping an eye on him like a hawk today and as a result am

UROLITHIASIS (BLADDER STONES)

This condition refers to "stones" forming in the urinary tract. The location of such stones is most commonly the urinary bladder, but stones can also form in the kidneys, ureters and urethra. In the right location they can prevent urination and lead to acute renal failure which would be considered a true urologic emergency. Most stones, however, cause irritation and damage inside the urinary tract.

The size, quantity and types of stones vary greatly with no specific formula for their development existing. Common stone types include struvite, calcium oxalate, urate, silica, cystine and calcium phosphate. Formation is caused by complex combinations of kidney function (metabolism), minerals in the diet, urinary tract pH, infections and abnormal metabolites being present in the urine. The composition of the stone(s) is most important with regards to treatment rather than to the symptoms produced. Many cats produce small struvite crystals rather than large stones. These can produce a sterile form of cystitis.

Clinical signs of urolithiasis are often similar to that of cystitis and include blood in the urine, straining to urinate, frequent urination, increased thirst, urinating in unusual places or where inappropriate, urinating small volumes of urine, unusual urine odor and sometimes abdominal distention or pain. Some cats have been known to exhibit no symptoms at all! Diagnosis is based on history, physical examination, X-rays including X-rays taken with dye being placed into the bladder, urinalysis, and urine culture. Sometimes kidney function tests will also be needed.

Now the clinical signs matches him. Now here's the thing .. this is referring to stones and crystals which can cause a sterile cystitis. The vet said yesterday he still has some crystals in his urine and might possibly have some tiny stones. This is why he's having the s/d food as it increases his urine PH and dissolves the crystals.

That sounds like Jaffa last weekend - he kept going to his tray and producing a small amount (more than a drip and less than a puddle is a good description!  ).  Although Jaffa hasn't had a diagnosis as such, his bladder was empty when he went to the vets so I would say he had cystitis.  I think the metacam helped him as he started weeing normally within 24 hours.  I suppose it depends on whether Memphis is producing enough in total to satisfy you that he isn't blocked and isnt' retaining urine.  But if he is still passing it in very small amounts tomorrow, I would ring the emergency vet for advice.

He had a long acting AB yesterday but I wasn't given anything for him except food and told to keep an eye on him. I was told he might strain a bit as he would be uncomfortable when the pain meds wore off and also told it's ok if it's like a half wee ... the main thing to watch for is that he is urinating. He's doing that just all over the place  I was told if he wasn't able to wee or producing very little then to bring him in.

I honestly dont know if it could be cystitus. The vets closed at 1 and it's the emergency vets who wouldn't have seen him before. This is a tough one for me as he is urinating he's just spreading it around.

I am not familiar with this subject but to me it sounds like he is in pain and is associating weeing with pain, hence the movement from place to place,,,,,,,,,could he have cystitus?

Can you call the vet and ask for advice?

He's really stressing me out today. I know it's not his fault but OMG   

It started off this morning as he seemed to be struggling. I know the vet said this would happen so it was just a case of wait and see what develops. He has had a few good big wee's today which is great but as the day has gone on he's started weeing in lots of different places. He will go in one tray then go straight to another tray, followed by the corner by his first tray, and now he's started trying to go into the corner of the dining room. Each time he produces a bit (more than a drip less than a puddle). It is making it impossible to keep tracks on how much he is producing so I'm having to follow him around keeping on eye on him. It would help me a lot if he would have one big wee in one place instead of about 10 different smaller ones in the space of 20 minutes - my dinner got very cold because of him 

I've been told 48-72 hours is the critical period but at the moment i'm having trouble working out if he's becomming blocked, already half blocked or if he's just in a lot of discomfort. Last  night he produced a lot in a few wee's. Today it seems like he needs a wee every 5 minutes
