It's always been my opinion that the best cat-people are those who care more for their cats than their house or furniture.

I bought a Multiyork velvet sofa but was worried that the cats might ruin it but they don't seem to like the texture  ;D. It was expensive but cheaper in the long run - clapton's fur sticks to it like s  :censored: t to a blanket though  :evillaugh: . The Ikea sofa gets used as a scratching post but I'm not complaining.

Wohoo. Go your friend! :)

Sometimes when a cat starts displaying "bad" behaviour it can be ridiculously trying and we say things that when we've calmed down, we regret.

Hope it all works out.

Sorry i should have updated this thread.

My friend had decided to keep this cat and start doing all the things i have told her to do !

As i had said in the beginning i was shocked that she was getting rid of her because my friend isnt norm like that !

Hopefully things will improve

its terrible that ur friend wants to get rid of her just lke that !
if it was me id take the cat from her and just keep hold of her till the cpl can take her in and find her a proper decent caring home where she can be an only cat and she can be given time and paitence till her little weeing problem goes away

That angers me too.  I had a friend who took on an old kitty.  She was gorgous but a little timid.  Then I got a series of calls saying the cat had to go coz she was weeing on her clothes and scratching her £700 sofa.  Her house stank of cat piss and she would buy the cat a bloody scratch post.  She would call me up crying but wouldnt lift a finger to try to resolve the issues.  Drove me mad.  I rehomed the kitty with another friend of mine and she has NEVER displayed any of these annoying issues since.  The cat in question doesnt have any problems, its the owner that had problems.

My "friend" and his mum tried to make me get rid of Cheese when she was small because she smelt and apparently was making him ill...

She was so ill she didnt use the tray properly and he knew full well I loved her to bits. It got me so mad that people could try and get rid of a cat just because they couldnt be bothered with them being ill etc. She was supposed to be both of our cats (well thats what he said to people that came round but as soon as she got sick or peed somewhere or broke something, she was suddenly my "stupid cat" guess who was the one who took her too the vets and paid the bills and gave her the tablets too?? Not him!!!)

He was HORRIBLE to her when I was not around. She was so tempramental until we got the chance to move away and she is such a lovely cat now she does not get tormented by him. Needless to say he is not my friend anymore.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Just shows though, people can be easily led and want to get rid at the slightest things... what the  :censored: it had to do with his mum I do NOT know. She wrote me a note telling me to get rid of her even though I knew full well she wasnt the reason he was ill. It was just a bloody excuse when his novelty wore off a poor little kitten.

A new BF hmmmmmmmmmm now that could be the cause!

Fraid you could be right, Gill. Her new partner could be putting pressure on her verbally to sort the situation out and it's making her really stressed - resulting in the "rehoming conversation."

I don't know what your situation is, but would it be possible for you to take this cat?
Has something happened in your friend's life which is making it hard for her to cope? Is she too stressed to deal with the problem?

I have 10 cats and although it might sound selfish i dont want to take her cat on too (and i dont see why i should)!!

My friends life is good at moment , she has a new BF and is really happy.
I think she is just being lazy and taking the easy way out !!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR  :censored:

good for you Michelle,  this is why I prefer most animals to humans. How can she bare to part with the baby not only that taking it away from his fur babe family too

Maybe I should give Daisy (kitten)  away, she is always peeing on the huge piles bathroom mat, its just a daily thing. I spoke to my vet  and he said its prob because its a nice thick pile and saves her having to dig a hole and then bury it. I bought another rug the same and just change it daily as and when.

She does use the trays but if one little wee wee is in there she wont use it. With nine of them its hard to watch every pee they do  ;D

I agree. Although I would love to have pristine furniture, I am becoming more and more aware that you can prevent your cats from wounding your sofa some of the time, but they will every now and again "forget" they aren't supposed to use it as a scratch post!

Michelle, I'm with you on this, I would cut off my arm rather than part with one of my cats. It's always been my opinion that the best cat-people are those who care more for their cats than their house or furniture.
I don't know what your situation is, but would it be possible for you to take this cat? It's not impossible to stop persistant weers. Samantha used to be one. Then I worked out that she only did it when it rains. So litter tray in verandah!

Has something happened in your friend's life which is making it hard for her to cope? Is she too stressed to deal with the problem?
If she insists upon getting rid of the cat (the poor puss may be better off), please help with the re-homing.
It may be time to reconsider your friendship.
All the best for poor puss.

Hi,

It makes me angry too, every time I look at my three, Alfie, an ex-stray with FiV, Suzie, my beautiful senior catizen seeing out her twilight years in warmth and comfort and Frankie with FiV who wasn't wanted in his former home it gives me a warm feeling inside that they are all now safe and cared for and to be honoured with the love they give me. I stumbled across this poem by Arlene Pace that some of you might have seen before about cat rescue which puts it much better than I ever could but the sentiment is exactly the same :

Rescued Cat

Once I was a lonely cat,
just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
no one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets,
in rain in heat and snow.
I ate what ever I could find,
I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
my body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat,
or gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
was really lots of fun.
Then one day I heard a voice
so gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
and took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you,"
was whispered in my ear.
"You'll have a home to call your own
where you will know no fear."
"You will be dry, you will be warm,
you'll have enough to eat,"
"and rest assured that when you sleep,
your dreams will all be sweet."
I was afraid I must admit,
I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let
a human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds,
and bathed and brushed my fur.
She told me about the rescue group
and what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle,
a line that never ends."
"And in the center there is you
protected by new friends."

"And all around you are
the ones that check the pounds,
and those that share their home
after you've been found."
"And all the other folk
are searching near and far."
"To find the perfect home for you,
where you can be a star."
She said, "There is a family,
that's waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we'll find them,
just you wait and see."
"And then they'll join our circle
they'll help to make it grow,
so there'll be room for more like you,
who have no place to go."
I waited very patiently,
the days they came and went.
Today's the day I thought,
my family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think
it wasn't meant to be,
there were people standing there
just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heart beat,
I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting
for a special cat like you."
Now every night I say a prayer
to all the gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live
and all you've given me.
But most of all protect the cats
in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person
to lift them off their feet."

I do so hope that your friend re-considers her decision, as we know, such problems can be solved with a little persiverance  or at the very least finds a cat charity to take her cat and find it a new home, it deserves nothing less.

Best Regards

Leigh

It's true,

Gandhi said you can judge a nation by how it treats it's animals - the same can go for individuals - you say she loves her cats, but if it were really true, she would find a compromise. I would give her the elbow after this is sorted out. Poor kitty  :ahh:

We had huge problems with willow for 2 years with weeing, now she lives upstairs in the kitchen, she has stopped completely, even though kylie goes up there sometime. I guess willow feels safer up there. In other words - she didn't try hard enough.

I just feel so sorry for the cat, it breaks my heart as the cat wont understand what is happening to her - she will be taken away from all she has ever known and from her brother and sister

I know what you are saying, however she is not happy now if she was she wouldn't be doing what she is, so perhaps you are doing her a favour.

Cannot you take it in then put it on a rescues list? I bet the cat would not do it if it were homed in a house where there were no other cats and a litter tray provided.

Hi Ela,
I know that Foalfarm would take the cat in if i asked them, i might say this to my friend. At least that way the homes would be vetted and it would be to someone that really wants a cat because they have taken the time to visit the rescue centre.

Maybe you could offer to go with her for the homecheck? I know you are annoyed but at least that way you can be satisfied the kitty will be treated better.

Good idea Cheesecat.
I am going to ring her later and say that i will go with her a do a homecheck
(still cant believe she is willing to hand her cat over to someone that will answer an advert!)

Excatly !   The litter tray is always dirty and she should put it where the cat is wetting !
I think you are right that the cat would be better off somewhere else but she isnt even going to do a homecheck, i am worried where she might end up !!!

Doesn't sound like your friend is willing to deal with this problem :(  Maybe her cat would be better off with someone else but it's a shame.  I hate when people discard pets as soon as a problem arises esp without even trying to sort it out.  If the litter tray is in the hallway maybe that's too busy an area for the cat to feel comfortable.

Sounds like she hasn't event tried - so sad.

You have every right to be annoyed. Sounds like she just expects the poor kitty to stop doing it with no encouragement whatsoever.

Angry with a friend RE her cat
« Reply #1 on: February 09, 2007, 11:08:32 AM »
My friend has 3 cats and one of them has taken to weeing on the carpet in the dinning room.
She has taken this cat to the vet to check for health problems (on my advice) and she is ok.

She was given a Feliway plug- in that she used for a couple of weeks (and did help) but gave up with it, i said she needed to use it for longer !!!!
I made her buy a litter tray but she puts it in the hall way and when ever i have been to her house it is always dirty, so i told her to make sure she keeps it clean!

I told her to put the litter tray where the cat wee's in the Dinning room but my friend wont do it as she says she doesnt want to clear up the litter that gets on the carpet !!!

Last night i was out with this friend and she said that she has decided to get rid of this cat as she is still weeing on the carpet !!
I'm afraid i snapped and she "well you havent done what i have told you to try and stop the problem"
She said she has made some adverts so i asked her if she was going to home check the new owners to which she said NO
Again i snapped and said "oh so you are just going to hand your cat over to someone that you dont know"
I asked if she would tell the new people the truth as to why she was getting rid of the cat and she said NO
So i said "what if the new people dump her or have her PTS because she wee's in their house"

I am so angry with my friends attitude !!!
I feel so sorry for this cat, this is the only home she has ever known (with her feline brother and sister).

I am afriad i am just going to have to keep my mouth shut and hope my friend tells me no more !!!!
