Problem now sorted thanks for the advice everyone.  I was taking her to the vets Monday as I was so worried but last night she coughed and a large piece of grass came out!!  Its such a relief!!  After about half an hour she was back to normal and eating and drinking.  I can't believe a piece of grass could have caused so much trouble!  Feel sooooo happy today now she is better  ;D  Thanks again for all your help

I thought that too she seems a bit happier today but she is still coughing a little.  Have seen her drink today and have got her to eat some ham to keep her strength up!  She is that scared of strange people and carriers because she came from a rescue that I think it would make her more ill taking her to the vets so will have to keep an eye on her.  She doesn't seem to be in to much pain as she is still playing with my other cat.  Thanks for your reply Janeyk its good to hear what others think  :briggin:

Probably the tablet scratched her throat or gullet a little, I do that too and it can feel awful for a few days, also when I had younger cats they never drank alot either sometimes hardly saw them drink compared to older cats.

Might be worth giving her some hairball treats just in case, the Defurr-um brand are very popular in my house and get gobbled up instantly.

Thanks for the help everyone Maude has had a drink this morning so feel a bit better about it now.  She seems alot happier today although she is still coughing when she eats or drinks.  Will have to see how she goes I think she would me more distressed taking her to the vets as she is a rescue cat and as soon as you try and take her anywhere she panics!!  Unless she is distressed I think I will just keep an eye on her and leave her be.  Thanks for the help its good to discuss these things with other people.

Thanks again

sarah

unless she is on dry food only and an indoor cat, I would not be too stressed about her not drinking as they can be very sneaky about that (basins, outside drains etc). The coughing may simply be because the tablet got caught then moved on, but irritated the throat on the way down (I have had pizza crust do that to me). Unless she appears to be distressed by the coughing, I would give it ia bit longer before panicking ...

Try a bit of butter to see if it shifts it if it is stuck.  If she carries on coughing though I would think about seeing the vet

Worried about Maude coughing advice needed please.

Hi all after some advice please.  On Saturday I gave a worming tablet to Maude (Drontal)  she didn't like it and escaped quickly however the pill was not spat out.  The problems started about three hours later she started to be sick.  Sunday she seemed a little better and was not been sick but was coughing like she was going to be sick.  Today she is much better in herself and is doing all the stuff she normally does apart from drink (she is eating).  I have not seen her drink anything since I wormed her and am worried as she is still occasionally coughing.  I have a syringe (as I was going to give her one with some water in to help the pill go down but she escaped then knew what I was up to so not been able to get her since) do you think I should give her some water in it now?  Just a little worried that she will dehydrate and that the pill may still be stuck - it seemed to go down OK but I know from my own experience that a pill can get stuck for a couple of days sometimes?

Thanks in advance for any help

Sarah and a very sorry for herself Maude  :(
