Fingers crossed he will be fine to come home on Mon Gill, you had no option but to do the dental, as dodgy teeth can affect kidneys, so he would have been even poorlier if left. IT is normal for them to be on drips, and at least he has eaten while there, so his mouth is feeling better.

Desley is right we had Byron's all removed when we first got her (at 22) as they were upsetting her tummy and she has been much better since.  Also our Squeaky unfortunately couldn't have his removed as he had a bad heart and we think his teeth made him very poorly.
Please consider the harder to home cats in rescue.

Just popping by to send best of good vibes to you and Franta Gill. Gillian is right about the hairball. He may not have been able to get rid of it on his own and it's good that you didn't leave things over the weekend as it could have been an emergency which is not good at Franta's age.

Healing headbutts to that gorgeous fella  :Luv:

Thing is Gill, we're in a no win situation - don't take them in, and they  suffer.  Take them in and they suffer in a different way.  No good answer.....

Gill, I know so muich how you feel about this - you take in a relatively happy cat, and end up feeling you've exacerbated the underlying situation.

Am sending Franta a big PPPprrrrffffpppt from his mate Paddy and a gentle ear tug from me.

Operate to get  afurball out - must've been massive - you sure you've not got a cat missing Gill  :Luv2:

So glad he's picking up.   Sounds like he's in the right place for them to monitor his eating and drinking and giving him the drip when needed.

Bet mIia and Sasa are getting loads of cuddles from you - they will keep you going..

Fingers and paws crossed.

Love Mary and Bonnie. xxxx

I have a theory that bringing up a sizeable hairball leaves a cat with a sore throat (or oesophagus maybe).  That would put him off his food.

He reckons that furball may have had to be surgucally removed if  Franta hadnt brought it up!!

blimey - must have been a big 'un!

I'm glad he's ok.  Stressful though it must be for him, he's probably getting familiar with the people and smells now and will be fine there over the weekend.

Vet has just rung and he says Franta needs to stay on the drip over the weekend and has had a little food during night and this morning but not to worry cos he is doing OK.

He reckons that furball may have had to be surgucally removed if  Franta hadnt brought it up!!

The vet last night talked of putting Jaffa on a drip to help get fluids in him and encourage him to urinate.  I think it's fairly normal, esp with older cats, to put them on a drip when they're hospitallized.  Cats so often won't eat or drink when they're in a strange place.

The drip will be just to get fluids into him which he will need if he's not been eating then has had the runs and vomited.  They probably just want to monitor him since they've got him there, and the alternative would mean him travelling back and forth

Have just rung vets and am waiting for the vet to ring me back.

Franta will not be coming home before Monday and am a little concerned about him again cos the nurse said he was alright at the moment! He is still on a drip and being medicated so sounds like he hasnt been alright during the night.

Poor little man and he was bloomin fine before the op, although that furball may have been lodged which caused him to eat less grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Thinking about this handsome chap alot.  Very much hope Franta can come home today Gill.  I can imagine how much worry you will be going thru till he's home safe, sound and eating properly.  Hope you slept OK last night.

Oh dear on rereading your post I see you said vet suggested he probably stay in till Monday.  Can see that trips to and from vet a pain (quite literally with your back) but also very unsettling for Franta perhaps?

I'm sorry to hear the poor lad has been so poorly and that he has to spend the weekend at the vets  :(  When Mosi gets a furball he goes off his food, so fingers crossed that he will get back to eating normally now that he's got rid of that!

I'm keeping everything crossed that his kidney issues aren't serious and that he is home with you soon
