So glad to hear Franta is doing better Gill.  You are probably more aware of what he is eating now than what he eats normally if you know what I mean.  I have been worrying that MacLaren isn't eating enough and has been losing weight but I think it is more because I am fretting over what he is eating when really he is probably eating normally.  (None of that seems to make sense but I hope you get the idea  ;D)

If you decide to syringe feed dont bother with baby food use a/d, its the perfect consistancy and balanced for a poorly cat, baby food is for babies.

I was well aware of that MM - it was a suggestion to encourage him to eat, you know?!!

Anyway, Gill, glad he's eating a bit more now.

I fret about Dinah if she doesn't eat her wet food, convince myself she's starved all day so cook fish or something tasty...and then notice she's eaten her own bodyweight in biscuits

Pleased that Franta sounds to be getting back to normal Gill  :) Our Smokey was never a big eater either hardly anything apart from prawns  :-: so then when they are off it they look to hardly eat anything.

thanks for all the suggestions  ;D

He is starting to eat biscuits...not the right bisciuts!!...but complete food biscuits and have seen him drinking. He has used a tray indoors too and is popping into the garden every so often but weather awful here at moment.....chuckin it down.

Have just put his cat food in front of him to have a lick and he told me.........I dont want that........well tough LOL.

Actuallt think he has had a fairly good nibble at biscuits and after so long I am sure his little tummy has shrunk and he never was a big eater, so am hoping that the temperamental little man is doiing better.

He is getting his food seperate now and then the wet food goes back to its normal place whether he has eaten any of not.  I wanted to shut him in bedroom with Ducha and me but he wont go near Ducha at the moment and Have you heard a birman howl when they are shut in a room!!

Seriously I am trying not to stress him out again and that will stress him badly.

He is also not as tired today it seems but he doesnt like me going out.....think he just needs to get his life back to normal now and be happy  again.

Yes he has been sooooooo pampered its crazy and now he expects it iof course but I have 3 other cats and the big cats need some attention too now, especially my big boy Misa.

Of course if I am concerned about him again I will be straight onto the vets but am hoping that we maybe are coming thro the sticky bit. I would be much happier if he ate more but eating something which is a complete food is the best news.

Oh Desley I agree about the bowls... I remember once when I went on holiday I used to take Smudge into my neighbours house for them to look after him and she told me that he wouldn't eat out of one of the dishes she gave him. Anything is worth a try Gill cos it was his bowls that I gave her and he'd been ok with it before.

I think you need to keep him in a room by himself at night Gill so you can see what he is eating, and you might find it is enough to stop you worrying. Also might be worth trying different types of bowls, in case he is suddenly being fussy about that.
Please spay your cat

Schui used to be a tubby (before he got poorly) and we couldn't understand as he was asleep all day then realised he was munching all night  ;)
When he was ill and off his food I hand-fed him which worked a treat trouble is everytime I go into the kitchen now he follows me and looks at me then his dish  :naughty: he's a sweetie though :Luv2:

so pleased things are better. They get used to pampering very, very quickly don't they (and why not, when they're poorly) so good luck with trying to re-establish the old routines! I do all meals hand held here and (able bodied) Max tries to demand his nosh is held in front of his nose on a plate too, the minx. Battle of wits, sometimes he wins (when he sings incessantly: horrible voice) and sometimes I do....
But it all sounds positive with Franta, hope you're having lovely lapcat purrs

I would be willing to bet that he is loving the attention - it is also maybe worth feeding him in a seperate room?? We have problems when we got the kittens as Beavis would let them eat all his , so we started feeding him seperaterly - he soon learned that if he wanted dinner he had better get it there and then or it would end up in Gizzys tummy.

Whe he has had what he wants we open the room up again. There are always biscuits about for them all to graze on.

one of the probs is knowing when they have eaten cos food is down all night.

he has been getting selfservice on the desk and this is now gonna stop, except for his special biscuits and water.

food was eaten during the night and he isnt really very hungry this morning but has used a tray, popped into a very wet garden, used scratcfhin post. drank a bit of water, had a couple of biscuits and a bit of jelly, so as he feels quite heavy ,,,,,,,,i am hoping he has been a piggy during the night.

he is on my knee again......where else   i feel that he maybe is takin advantage so we are gonna stick with one food back in its normal place again and in a while i am going to take him upstairs to his bro where he used to snuggle during the day but has totally ignored for the last 3 weeks.

so the idea is to stop all the pampering and get back to normal....................hope it works !

Paddy.  xxx

Gill, hoping you can get something inside of him.  I know how frustrating this is, and how worried you are.  Just a thought - and I know you've tried allsorts - what haven't you tried him with?  Sometimes a bit of lateral thinking's in order, and when they've been poorly, occasionally they'll eat something they've been sniffy about previously, so perhaps look at giving him a food he doesn't normally eat.  Would it be worth trying a bit of plain white fish, lightly steamed?  I know you've said although he likes fishy flavours he won't normally eat fish, so could be worth a little go?

Whatever happens, am topping up the Franta hugs and hoping you have a more productive day today with him, Gill.

Is there any way you can syringe some milk or liquid food into him at all?

Yes I wonder if you might need to try sryinging food into him now, I had to do it with Gypsy few years ago when she was so ill with cat flu she wouldnt eat, she didnt like it but it did kickstart her appetite. Maybe you could try something like a meat baby food (you have to be careful though cos a lot of them have onions in), just a thought.

Not sure what else to suggest hun, Max can be temperamental when he wants to be, and he doesn't want to eat, there's not much that can tempt him except fresh chicken or tuna.

well after trying him with the rc renal, he has stopped eating the kd grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

He is not eating anything much cept his fur.

Have five dishes with different food s on the desk, including pilchards  but he just will not eat.

Still sleeping most of the time.

Have talked to someone tonight who says that if liver starts to go , I am looking at a matter of days so that is why vet is so worried about him not eating.

Just dont know what to do for the best  :(

Why wont he eat.........he seems fine but just wants to groom and sleep.
