Max has done another poo, so I'm happy enough with that for now, will just keep going with poo watch over the next few days to ensure he is OK.

I found an unintentional laxative when one of my kitties ate sardines plus oil .... Id left them in a bowl to make a sandwich meant to be for MY tea ... you can guess the rest Apart from the obvious results, the poor culprit left small oily patches wherever he sat for a day after the original "event"

Might not be appropriate in this case but it might help someone else .....

No more poos yet today, but will check again when I get home. I've done a few blobs of Katalax as he loves that anyway, so hopefully that will get him 'moving'.

The vets still don't seem unduly concerned, they said as long as he's bright in himself and eating/drinking OK, he'll poo when he's ready. The still think its down to his thyroid levels being too low which has slowed his metabolism a bit, so he may not even be constipated, just needing to go less.

I think J was having nightmares about poo last night

It sounds like his CRF is causing his body to take water from his poos, becuase of them being so hard - you can get Lactulose from teh chemist, it might be a bit cheaper than the vets

We worried at first but the vet said it is quite common for cats store it and that's right for him. He does drink alot and only eats wet food, he seems a very old boy though. The vet has never given us anything for him but I could ask about the lactulose thanks.

Yeeha good boy Max. SOunds like he is a little constipated my vet says one inch of Katalax twice daily for two days and then one inch once daily for 2 days. Worth checking the Lactulose with your vet. You can also get Peridale which, strangely enough ,helps with diarrhoea and constipation. Might just be a one off, has he been grooming a lot or anything

My vets only give out Lactulose these days as well, I cant see it being thyroid related.

Yeah, I couldn't get it any of the chemists, and the vets gave me some earlier. Not sure why they chose that over the Lactulose, maybe less likely to interfere with his thyroid meds? Not sure, will check next Weds when we back for bloods on the assumption we don't have to go back before.

Jane - that would indicate a slight problem to me, the hard and in lumps sounds as though he needs extra water adding into his diet, or maybe weekly Lactulose. Their poo does get smaller with age though, I can tell the difference between Molly's (nearly 16) and Zia's (18.5)

Our Schui poos very rarely, my vet says some cats are like this they store it and it isn't harmful it is just how body works. When he does go it is always hard and in lumps, he's been like this from the day we adopted him.

Dinah does get a bit bunged up. After 5 days we took her to the vet. Vet couldn't feel anything backed up but gave her some but gave her an enema to be on the safe side. She did a tiny poo before we came home...

...and when we got home we spotted a huge sausage in the tray, poor girly must have gone literally seconds before we left for the vet

Over the 15 day period he was checked regularly by the vet who said he just wasn't constipated so obviously didn't need to go. No idea why it was just a one off and when I told the vet he had finally pood he said he felt the same way he had felt when he first became a dad!!! Hope Max has done one when you get home. Dragan did used to have Lactulose to help him go - be careful with liquid paraffin it can do something to vitamin A I think but not sure what.

Absolutely

J leads a charmed life, he's never once had to do litter duty, I always do it, so this is the first time he's had to have a rummage and see whats in there.

He almost had a heart attack, he said there were some little 'lumps' in the tray, so sent him back to chop them in half to see if they were poo or just clumped wee ........ bless him, you could almost hear the revulsion in his voice

Alas was just a wee, so going to get some liquid paraffin from the vets at lunchtime just in case.

Yeah, I'm not sure about that, think milk is high in protein which is probably a no-no for Max and his kidney diet

Still no poos yet. I've given him some Katalax to see if that helps, but if no poo by tonight, back to the vets again.

I think I'll have to take out some shares the amount of time we're in and out of there at the moment

We think Max's thyroid being up and down as affected his metabolism a bit, and whereas he used to be a very regular boy, he's not been since Friday

I've spoken to the vets, and they've recommended liquid paraffin. There's nowhere to get any until tomorrow, so I've given him some Katalax as I'm guessing it may have the same, ahem, effect

Can you send some poo vibes, as if he doens't go tonight/tomorrow, he's got to go the vets again for a check.

He's eating OK and seems fine in himself, but would like to spare another vet visit quite so soon
