Quick update. Lexie and Purdey are really gaining in confidence. The cats are spending all day together now and both Lexie and Purdey go to the utility room to eat and drink from the residents cat bowls and use their litter and the resident cats are doing the same with Lexie and Purdey's room. There are a few wary walking round each other, stares off's and hissing but nothing horrendous. Did hear a cat fight starting this evening, went to the hallway to investigate and it was Lexie and Purdey who were chasing each other to the bemusement of the resident cats. 

We are still a way off from letting them sleep together at night but definitely feel like we are making progress.

Lexie and Purdey are very confident cats and a few nights this week I had closed the resident cats off to the kitchen and utility (which is their room) and let Lexie and Purdey explore. They sniffed the resident cats normal resting places and didn't seem at all put out. The resident cats then also got Lexie and Purdey's scent. I also gave Lexie and Purdey time back in the cage in their room with the door open so the resident cats could come in and see them. There were no horrendous signs of aggression so on Friday evening we let them all out together. There has been the expected hissing and growling but its pretty much life as normal.

I'm still feeding Lexie and Purdey in their own room and they are sleeping there as not ready to close them all in together at night yet. Next week I'm hoping to start moving the food bowls closer and hope to have moved on more with introducing Lexie and Purdey to their new diet by then as well. Depending on how that goes will assess when they are ready to share one room.

Its still very early days but feels like steady progress is being made.

I didn't realise the pics were still really small when you clicked on them. I'll see if I can make the Lexie one any bigger and still be able to post it. Perhaps it would be best if I mention her orange spot in the health thread anyway.

They are settling in well. They had another hour running round the house last night. Lexie spent most of it curled up on the top of the sofa at my shoulder. She was acting like a guard cat and Purdey lay on the sofa and rolled over to show me her tummy so that's a good sign.

I just love Lexie and Purdey!  Gosh are they ever beautiful cats!

Lesa, those photos are too small for anyone to see the orange spot in Lexie's eye.  You need to make them bigger.  I can't see it and I've pressed my nose against the computer screen to get as close a look as I can!

The really fluffy one is Lexie.

They are very confident cats and after reading up more on semi-longhairs I am convinced they have Norwegian Forest cat in them. They have the body shape I've seen described and the personality. They are also very muscular and heavy as a result. They have been running round the spare bedroom today and seem very happy. They never seem to hide away like most of my DSH cats did when they first came home and they always come running up for a cuddle when you walk in the door. I really do think they will want to be the Top Cats mind you so am quite worried about introducing them to be resident cats.

Lexie has an orange spot in one eye which you should be able to see in the photo. I was told at the shelter that a vet said it wasn't a problem, that it could spread right across her eye but wouldn't cause any eyesight problems. Has anyone heard of this before?

My new girls arrived home today after getting the all clear from the CPL and their vet from their tummy bug. We decided to call them Lexie and Purdey. Lexie has the most white on her face and Purdey has the white chin.

They were a little stressed in the car and I heard a few spats and I witnessed a little growling and hissing when I put them in the crate so hope they'll settle down soon. I was told for the most part they get on really well but do have the occasional spat.

They were brought to the CPL when they were found along with 11 other cats in a garage following the death of their owner in an RTA. They had a big flea problem and were emaciated which had caused them to lose a lot of their coat. The CPL called them semi-longhairs but they said they have no idea how long their coats will get as its only starting to grow back.

They are confident, 3 year old girls so I'm expecting plenty of spats when they meet the other 4 furballs but am hoping the fact they were used to such a large multi-cat household will help them settle in.

For today I'm going to confine them to the crate but they have already quite happily prowled around the spare bedroom so tomorrow I hope to let them have free range of it. I just have to be careful that my little girl doesn't open the door and let them get near the other cats. She is only 2 and its hard to make her understand. For the moment I just haven't told her that they are in there.
