CANTERBURY CP was doing well rehoming until call from yesterday, 16 cats in need

We met these cat & kittens at Rolvenden rescue yesterday. Ruth said they were covered in fleas when they arrived. Apart from that, they are lovely, affectionate cats and not at all timid so they were neglected health wise but cared for in other ways. One of them, a beatiful grey cat was batting me to be picked up and laid in my arms purring.

They are well cared for by Ruth and her husband. Fed on Royal Canin and all treatment done regardless of cost 

With 87 cats in care at the moment, the wood-pellet litter is burned each day

I had a phone call off CP the other day and I'm helping to trap a colony with them.  There are about 30 cats, non spayed/neutered and quite a few are pregnant    If these can be done, they will be as I have vowed I am not taking any more at the moment as I have a houseful and there is just nowhere to house the mums and kittens.  It's a sad fact of life but options are pretty limited, you either let them have them and fill up much needed spaces, which in turn means others may die at their expense or you bite the bullet and do the kindest thing in the long run

Do the CP return the cats to where they were found after spaying or are they taken in?

Aww, bless them, I do hope they improve soon and homes can be found. I agree, but I have had to do it this year as well, she was booked in asap in case she had just been caught, but the vet didn't pick it up till she had opened her up (despite shaving most of her tummy and side as she has a nick on one ear) - as we know she has already had at least 2 litters this year, and is only 18 months old, i know it was the best for her - and she is a nicer cat for it.

The emegencies where BW Guiness with a severe neck wound now patched up and off to one of our fosterers and Mulberry a senior female who is all skin and bone now with Caroline... Mulberry does indeed look abit worse for wear as she is LH and thus her fur doesnt really show her condition.. But she has a lovely nature...and very endearing.

Both have potential homes waiting in the wings.. if they turn out to be as nicer cats as we think they are.

As for the preg females.. i realise this is a very sticky subject on Purrs but we just are not able to handle so many kittens.. so the choise was to spay and rehome... both young cats...I am always of the opinion that if the vets are okay to spay at whatever age in pregnanies, then we go along with what they say.

Oh dear, that is a terrible situation, why do they wait till things are so bad? Fingers crossed for your emergencies too. WE have had a bad week with cats needing to come in, and no space for them.

Since the end of Summer holliday we have managed to rehome a few cats and kittens (12 so far at least count).. and were going tomake inroads into our list of cats to come in.. But yesterday we had a call from  a lady with 16 cats..!!!!!!!!!! 2 mums and 8 kittens and another 6 or so that are to young to be spayed or are spayed (the story changed you see)!

I nearly had kittens myself and the daughter of the lady was in a right state as she just cannot cope any more... In the short term both females of the kittens are beign spayed on Monday and the older kittens that are 4 monthr of so we are tryng to see if our vet will do them until we can take him.. he isnt so keen but i reckon we could talk him round it.. I talked to other rescues yesterday and of course everyone is full up....! So we are having to deal with this in stages....

This week we have had 2 cats brought into vets pregnant but the vets were able to spay and both the cats then found a home... But sadly last weekend we had two emergency cased dumped on us and that has taken our pen space up.. We also have some ferals being socialised by Pink Bear as well... so all in all abit of a nightmare.. !

Spaying 16 cats presuming they are all females (unlikey but worse case scenerio) is nearly 700 quid!!! and there isnt much chance of getting owners to contribute as its one of those lack of money situations....

Why will not people ever learn!
