My beloved yoghurt eater is sleeping now, but we had a tough night from 4.30 onwards. I didn't get any sleep - too hyped up, like I'd had strong coffee (I hadn't). I hope tonight's better. I plan to give him some more yoghurt later as it's really something he loves. Selgian tonight then to see if it has any effect or not.

Bless.  It might just be a cat thing?  They are supposedly nocturnal and sleep during the day (wish someone would tell Charlie that).  If the med does help calm him etc then probably better to give it at the night time instead.  Hope you manage to get some rest and relaxation today whilst the little guy is zzzzzzing,.  Sunny here too but very cold with it.  Looks like spring until you go outside.

He's calm at the mo', asleep. He had his first Selgian today. If it does actually work to calm him, I will move the dose to at night. No point him sleeping all day and up all night. OH was in here most of the night and said Swampy needed help at 1, 3 etc as per normal, but he wasn't agitated. One day at a time, or even less than that.

xx  to everyone, hope the sun's out with you too.

We both went down at 4.30 for a proper consultation with the vet. He says any meds are guesswork but suggests we try Selgian from tomorrow and a tiny bit of Xanax if necessary at night to see if it helps or not. It's been a very difficult 24 hours so we will see how it goes this weekend with my little one.

Swampy had another bad night. I'm waiting for the vet to call me but I don't think there is anything except diazepam which would calm him and that isn't suitable. I'll post later on when I've spoken to the vet. Please send your prayers and vibes for Swampy. xx

Yes I think it's probably the greatest, most unconditional love there is. I wouldn't have missed a minute with Swampy, despite all the anguish now and to come. He's marked my life in a million ways, all good.

Mr French Passport holder has been asleep all day with even less loo and munch breaks than usual. So his mum had better rest as somehow I don't think he'll be kipping all night.

Lupus still has bouts of overactivity which the vet puts down to his brain damage.  his episodes always occur at night (typical) and he runs around the house making awful yowling noises, as if his tail is on fire or demons are chasing him.  he always wakes me up when hes having a nutty half an hour and my dogs never know whether to chase him or to be scared of him.  i took a long time before i got used to his mental behaviour and even now i worry if it goes on for too long.  like i said, it took a long time before he was anything like back to normal and hopefully Swampy will make a good recovery too .  i sometimes wonder why we put ourselves through all the pain and heartache of having pets but id rather go through that than to ever be without them.

Hi, thank you and welcome BM (bonkers mad!  ;D). That's a lovely story; the vet has also said that with brains you can't be sure as they can improve sometimes. I'm so happy it worked out so well for Lupus. Give him a big kiss from us here.  I don't think Swampy is too bad, but his overactivity (what the vets call it) is just so exhausting for us as it is at night and whoever is in the lounge, usually me as OH works full time, has to get up.  It's a pattern of 1, 3,5am approx for 20 mins each time and he wants to eat each time too.

I didn't give him the vivitonin this morning and he's calmer and is fast asleep with Max on the heatpad. Happy snores, with their heads together. Off for some tea and rest for me.  xx

hi ther Swampy's mum.  i'm new here and your story is the first i've read.  how incredibly sad, what you've all been through.  i wanted to share my Lupus' story with you to try and give you a bit more hope, if thats ok.

Lupus was 15 weeks old when he ran up a wooden ladder which tipped and landed on his head.  he had swelling of the brain and temporary (the vet said) blindness.  he couldnt use his back legs and was at the vets for a week.  it was touch and go for a while and the stress and worry when he came home was awful.  he had major problems coping with the blindness but slowly, over the course of about 6 months, some of his sight returned ( i think he sees outlines and shadows).  those 6 months while he was recovering were awful for me.  i didnt sleep much either, every noise he made woke me up and i was always scared to leave the house in  case one of the other cats bullied him while i was out.  thinking back on it now it was a very very stressful time.  Lupus was very confused and scared a lot of the time and i sometimes wondered whether it was fair of me to put him through it all.  all in all in took around 6 months+ for him to be mostly recovered.  his sight is still poor and he goes cross eyed and falls over every now and then but he is now nearly 11 years old.

my thoughts and best wishes are with you all. xx

I have just read back from the 4th Jan...and he hasnt had a good day in those 8, so putting him in a cage is probably not the best thing. The other thing you got to consider is that he only seems settled when he is asleep and if he becomes frighened because of the cage he would then think of sleeping with fear.
