The vet was here for about an hour and was wonderful. Swampy's biggest problem, apart from his brain damage, is the blood in his urine, which has got a little worse. Without a scan he's not sure what it is caused by, but there wouldn't probably be any treatment he could have anyhow - it would just help him know what's wrong. So we both decided that a trip down to do it would probably not be in Swampy's interests. His best guess is some kind of nephritis where the kidneys leak blood, so it's important I keep giving him kaminox which has iron and vit B. Swampy will deteriorate over the next weeks or few months he thinks, but it's hard to know how long he's got.
Swampy got out of his igloo, lay on his back and purred while the vet ticked his tum - and he walked a bit in his circles, but found Max in the other bed and curled up (vet took a photo with his mobile as thought it was so cute). I made a point of asking was he in pain or suffering and were we being unkind or wrong to keep going and he said definitely not, that if we could handle looking after him like this, that Swampy was coping ok. He also said to try to see if we can give the steroids every 48 hours, unless Swamps gets too down in which case keep it at 36.
No-one knows how fast he will deteriorate or if his bleeding will get worse or when. But he will leave instructions with the locum and says the nurses will insist that if Swampy's time comes while he is away, that it is done the same way he would do it. But he says he thinks Swampy will still be around on 7 January and of course I hope he's right.
With his support and the support on Purrs, it makes it easier to cope and so thanks again for being there for my Swamp
xx He's curled up with Max now in the other bed and they look so sweet.
