I am pleased Swampy is doing so well but my instinct is to not move him from his current environment until he is feeling well enought to do it by himself.

He so needs to get used to being able to wander by himself without getting scared and to change environment how ever tempting, may not be good for him. You must remember its not just that he is blind and deaf but also that he has had a terrible accident which has caused real problems for him.

If you did move him, I do hope it went OK and am sending lots of good vibes to Swampy for being such a brave little cat

I think is very wise advice.

I think if it's totally safe, and if you can take it very gently Kate, that might be a good idea - feeling a breeze on his fur and outdoor smells might act as a stimulus.  You'd need to prepare just in case it was too much for him all at once - cats' senses are more highly developed than ours in terms of smell and touch, and he might find it a little overwhelming given that he's only just getting used to feeling his way gradually about his home.   So pleased that he's getting braver about going for little wanders, and can just picture that lovely tummy, waiting for a rub!  :)

:Luv2: to Swampy from Summer, Smartie and Skye.

Have you tried taking Swampy into the bathroom with you when you or OH are in the bath?  The steam might help his cold.  I did this with Summer (on advice from Vet) when we/they though she had cat flu.  Seemed to help with the snotty (sorry) nose.  We put bubble bath in  -  one that's supposed to help to decongest you.  She comes in herself now - seems to like the steam and smell.

I'm thinking of trying to take him out on the flat roof for some sun this morning and have OH's help on a sunday to get him through the window. If he gets too upset will bring him back in. I am a bit worried about the brighter light (although wouldn't face him straight into it and it's a bit feeble sun anyhow but v welcome). But lots of wanders since 5am this morning with miaows (still lounge only). Thank goodness for some sun as warmer weather helps his cold. Max is zzzzing (usual morning thing), but is being really good (think he likes the new futon zzzz arrangement!). Swampy's always been a lot more active than Max.  I know it's early days on his coping, but it's so hard for him to be deaf and blind when he was such an active oldie. But we had a lovely tum rub and I told him about all the lovely messages he's getting from purrs. He purred back to you all!   Oops here comes another yowly wander!

Sending more Sunday morning cuddle top ups for Swampy.

As MrsR says, it will take time for Swampy to feel confident on his little forays around the house.  If you think what it would be like for us in the same situation we'd be scared too.  But it's not putting him off having a wander.  Wish his cold would clear up for him and it'd beone less thing to bother you both.     Go away, Swampy's cold.  :poke:

Sweeti eSwampy will get to know where everything is in the house, Sofa did, it took time and even now she occasionally bumps into something but she will jump up onto things now and is seemingly used to it and it doesn't hold her back.   Give Swampy time, I know its hard x

yes Sue, I sort of talk into the top of his head - may give the throat thing a try as I'm sure they do 'hear' something, even if it's just reassurance. The biggest problem we have at the moment is his fear from being blind. He's only really at ease when resting on the futon mattress. He did venture down the passage a little again today but got too scared. You could sense the relief as his paws touched the duvet on the futon. I'm praying that there are no more fits and that the fear of the darkness eases. (He also smacked his head into a table leg on his lounge wanders & the impact made him sneeze....sounds silly, but it was not nice to watch). His snottiness makes him eat quite a lot less too.
I did get out today though for an hour as OH's home working, but you're right, at some point I'll just have to do it and hope for the best!
   all.

Just popping by to send love and kisses for Swampy, and topping up the healing vibes.   :cuddle: :cuddle:

Kate, Paddy's deaf too, and what I sometimes do with him if he's a bit under the weather, when I give him a cuddle, I rest my throat against the back of his neck and head and just talk to him softly.  I figure if he can feel the vibrations then somehow it helps to soothe him, even though he can't hear the words.  Often it sets him off purring.

Hope the big man and you got a little more sleep last night, and that his cold butters off soon.

Yay way to go Swampy   Great news that he is a calmer and venturing a bit further each day.  So good that Max is looking after him ... this will help swampy to feel a bit better having his brother watching out for him.

I know it's easy to say Kate, but you must look after you as well and get some rest hun .... if you are stressed Swampy will pick up on it and it won't do him any good.

Not too bad a night - think I got about 4 hours which isn't too bad! He snores though, as his cold's getting worse again. I'll have to make a call on the new fan diffuser and olbas oil I think! I will talk to the top of his little brown head and tell him that he's got a lovely fan club who are sending him lots of positive vibes.  I'm still so frightened to leave him unattended and when I do go out, it's not for long and with my heart in my mouth in case something happens.  I'm just so nervy still, which I suppose is normal as he is just so special.
He and Max are zzzing. I will try to get a photo at some point and post it
