He had a busy day yesterday venturing etc so perhaps he just needs to rest to conserve his energy today.  Hope you both have a good night and Swampy is up and about again tomorrow

I'm a little worried about him this evening actually. He hasn't moved all day except for one litter tray visit, where he didn't find his usual one but found Max's instead. He wouldn't play this evening and just wants to kip on his futon, although he has eaten ok (all meals served in bed of course), he's not had a wander or shown any interest all day. If he does the same tomorrow, I'll have to ring the vet.
thanks again for all the lovely messages of support

I've just had a thought ... swampy will do alot more crying as he will be using the noise to "locate things" and build a picture in his mind.  By making a noise he will be able to work out where things are (sort of echo location).  Does that make sense?

Seems he is making steady progress. No doubt he is horribly fed up and just wants to be better, he is coping so well.

Lots of hugs and head butts from us.

You're doing a grand job for poor Swampy, poor lamb.  I remember when I first brought my blind cat home from the rescue centre he used to wander off and then sit and wail until I went and rescued him, after a few months he was much more confident in his surroundings so he only does it now when he's hungry or wants someone to play with him.  I'm sure Swamp will adjust in time, but meanwhile I'm sure all your love and attention are seeing him through.  Well done you.

I think your instincts are right, Kate.  He probably will be bored and frustrated.  I know I would be.  In fact I'd be impossible to live with in those circumstances.  It makes Swampy's tolerant good nature even more profound, bless him.

Could you talk to your vet about the Istin, and see what he thinks?

Hello   not too bad a night and Swampy's eaten quite well this morning once I kept him in the lounge and quiet and took the plate for his breakfast/s in bed! (no sun to divert him of course..).  I was thinking about Istin again; last time he couldn't take it as it sent his sensitive liver values up too high and he started to vomit. Don't they give Istin to cats who go blind as the result of a stroke? I know it's early days, but when I hear him cry it's awful, as you can imagine.
I'm thankful that I can be with him most of the time, to try to calm him, but I do think he's mostly scared but also frustrated and bored. He's bumping into stuff less in the lounge, but stands in the middle of the floor and cries and doesn't want a cuddle - until he settles down again on the futon some time later.  Max sleeps so much more than he does. I did go out for an hour yesterday and have to do so today again, but I'm still very nervy about leaving him. Still sleeping on the futon as couldn't bear it if I was next door and anything happened at night - and he can't jump on the bed (yet).
lots of purrs to everyone from the SwampMax

My mum's cat, Sukie went blind when she was quite young, my mum only realised when I was visiting and she said Sukie kept walking into the washing machine and I suggested getting her eyes checked  :( - she got to know her way around the house. Whenever I visited, she would go bounding upstairs to my old bedroom and jump on my bed purring. She slept on my pillow as a kitten and never forgot. She even did it at the age of 12  :Luv2: - They learned not to move furniture around as she had a mental map of the house and used to run around as if she could see. I keep meaning to borrow a photo from my mum to put on here.

Hoping Swampy is brighter this morning  :Luv2:

Topping up the Get Well Swampy vibes this morning.   I think Baggy's right.  It will take him weeks to adjust to this new way of life, and to get over the shock he received, but he's already doing superbly well, and he hasn't had any further fits or anything.    And each day further on he gets, the more any residual brain swelling will subside, his mind and body will heal and the more he'll come to terms with this strange new world of his.

Plenty of Max cuddles and tummy rubs seem to be the order of the day, so here's hoping he gets both aplenty.

zero activity today but he cried every time he woke up and had to be fussed. He ate better for not moving about or having anything to do. Must have been the sun and his dad home yesterday that caused such activity. I just hope that he's not too unhappy; the only joy he seems to get is when Max curls up with him and they have a little lick session or a paw bat for a few secs.  He has always been such an active and interested-in-everything cat. Thanks for all the support yet again.

That is brilliant.  He is such a brave brave boy.  I am glad you didn't take him outdoors as it might have overwhelmed him but the compromise of laying in the sun in the bedroom sounds lovely.  He is making such good progress.  Maybe he isn't eating as much as he isn't as active?  In any event you have done and are doing a magnificent job of looking after your invalid boy.  Here's hoping for more progress every day

Hi, well Swampy didn't go out yesterday as I decided it was too much, but did have a little sleep on our bed in the sun which he seemed to enjoy (bedroom - our lounge doesn't get any sun). He did a lot of wandering on his own (no miaowing) as OH left the lounge door open. Maybe it was too much as he was hard to feed yesterday pm despite his activity level picking up (by himself I mean) and he woke me at 2.45am with a mega yowl - breakfast hasn't gone too well either. He seemed hungry but not eating more than a little bit, then pawing at the blanket to say enough (hand held plate: he's stopped eating in the kitchen since the cortisone wore off), then walk a bit, then back to eat a little more.  He ate at least 1/4 can less than 'normal' yesterday & so far hasn't had his usual tray visit!  I hope he's not going off k/d as it needs eating reasonably fast  or at least in 1 go as goes hard when exposed to air for longer than 15 mins.
We have stairs to a mezzanine in the lounge and he walked upstairs yesterday morning, so we've now put garden wire on the stairs. I hope it's just a hiccup today and that he'll eat well later. He even had a 10 second paw batting moment with Max yesterday btw which again, made me cry I was so happy. It was at his pace then, but maybe I should rein him in a bit and keep him quiet(er) today.  Big    to everyone for continuing to be there for Swamp.
