The only snag with people scales is most of them only measure in increments of 100grams so you can't get an accurate weight - All the ones I looked at in Argos are.

morning from the futon dwellers
Swampy was a bit confused this morning with his off-compass wandering and his cold's fired up a bit more so he had trouble finding the tray and even his food (from 2ins away poor love), but when he came back to the futon, he had a lick of the banana and lay on his side and grabbed at my hand with all 4 paws - I even got a tiny bite. Max is now exploring the inside of his ear while he rests and the sun is out.....so here's hoping for a nice, quiet restful day. And to all of you too
What's odd is his coat is good but he doesn't clean himself at the moment, he just cleans Max.
How lovely to get a whiskery pffpffppt (sp??!
). My 2 send one back too and a big headbutt from Max (he is a champion headbutter).

Morning Swampy, morning Kate
Sending early morning hugs and shedloads of healing thoughts your way.
You've both done so incredibly well, Kate. If his sight never comes back, it will be terribly sad, but to think how far this little guy has come in two weeks - pottering about a little further, gauging his way a bit at a time, he's a complete star.
And he still loves his Max and his Mum and Dad very much, and enjoys your company
Swampy has the heart of a hero.
Paddy sends a headbutt and a whiskery prrrfffpppt too.

I agree with Maddiesmum and its still so early after such a major trauma, just take it easy with wonderful Swampy, time loads of time will slowly heal. Even if he doesnt get his sight back, think how far you he has come in just 14days. Miricles do happen and I think Swampy just being able to move around at all is a miricle

Please don't give up hope re his sight, brain swelling going down is a slow process. True he may never regain it but who knows, miracles do happen sometimes and if anyone deserves it he does little brave soldier.

I'll do anything for Swampy, but would prefer to avoid getting on the scales with him!
I'll check out Argos online - thanks. Swampy enjoyed a little lie in some feeble sun on a bed (I put him on the bed) and he actually jumped down - but he landed sort of splat, so I stopped him from doing that again as he's weak. Gave him an hour of 'sun' puddle lying and then brought them both back (sun gone anyhow). His eyes were less black in the brighter light but not sure if that means he has some light-dark sensitivity (he def can't see anything though) or if it's an auto response from the eyes. But when they were both on the bed, Max sort of moved in and shoved him to get a better sun position so I can see how it could have happened on top of the chest, if that's what did happen. No more stairs or anything today. It's 2 weeks now since the accident and still no sign of any vision, so it seems he will stay blind poor wee love.
But again and I'll keep saying it, thank you a million everyone for being there for him and for me, it's such a huge help. Here's hoping for a nice, quiet night too

Leanne's right Kate. We got some good flat digital scales from Argos with big easy read out display, and I think we only paid about £12.99 for them.
What a clever lad Swampy is - up the stairs!
Hope the little feela hasn't been agitated if Max had a snooze elsewhere without him. Wonder if he'd benefit from a little sun lamp by his futon when you're there to keep an eye on him...? Give him a tummy rub from me and Paddy. He's a very special fellow.
Topping up the healing vibes too.

Argos have some nice bathroom scales on offer at the moment.
When I have to weigh Jess I usually get on weigh myself (GULP) then get on with Jess. The things we do for these cats, I'd never get on them otherwise.
Seriously though more top ups from us
and I'm glad Swampy is getting about xx

Sounds good, Can you weigh him on the scales with you, ie weigh yourself first and then weigh yourself with Swampy. He might feel better if you are holding him. Here's hoping for a sunny day for you - we have one here - so that Swampy and Max can both bask in the sunshine and enjoy it. Keep it up Swampy you are such a star

hello and so many thanks again
I saw the vet briefly and he said if all is reasonably ok, don't bring Swampy down just yet but I must weigh him often to make sure he's not losing weight. He didn't enjoy being put on the scales, which are a bit small and a bit curved - does anyone know of a (Argos or similar) larger based flat digital scale that may be easier (and not too expensive). We got there at the 2nd attempt and he's lost a little bit, but I hope that's ok. He's eating the same amount as before his accident. Last night he managed to wander upstairs but couldn't get down without me guiding him gently down every step; it really is so heartbreaking to see that but he's such a brave little fellow. He slept well and as for the Chicken Vacuuming Birthday Boy, he's sleeping it off, thank you!
The sun's out here in London (
) so I'm going to have to try to get Swampy some indoor rays if he will settle calmly on the bedroom bed with me early afternoon - if it's not cloudy again by then of course! The sunniest spot is of course where he fell off from and Max will want to spend his day there zzzing. So I'll see if saturday's experience gets repeated in that Swampy gets agitated when separated from Max. OH tried to cuddle Swampy on the bed this am and he just wriggled to get away as wasn't confident. (pre-sun though).
to everyone.

I know you said your vet is a one man band but couldn't he, or the nurse, come out to your house and take the blood? It seems to me that they could show a bit willing, since they pooh-poohed you at first, right after Swampy hurt himself.
Sorry, none of my business, I'll be off now. Dot and I send hugs and purrs.

He's coldy this morning, so luckily I didn't give him too much brekker as thought it may return....it did. He's since eaten a bit and had a little wander - one head bang but otherwise ok - and tum tickle (he grabs my hand but no longer kicks) and we had a little cuddle. I will have to ring the vet soon anyhow as the bloods have to be redone. I dread that visit because of the stress and last time Swampy shook his head so wildly that they could not get enough blood for the biochem stuff, only the kidneys/liver, so they need to get more blood this time - I don't want him shaking his head obviously. I have to go out again a bit today so am psyching myself for that. Purrs to everyone
It is Max's 15th birthday.....think he's been so good lately (!!) I'll give him his own thread for that.
