He managed 2 little wees in the night and a poo this morning all by reaching the tray himself, so perhaps it was a temporary thing. Mind you I don't know how he managed in the night as he woke me with a loud protest miaow at 10 to 3 for a teaspoon of food and was very manic and wobbly on his legs - and then Max (who is in my Good Books today) went into the igloo with him for once so I got a couple of hours sleep as Max calmed him down. It's amazing how that first eyebrow snog just calms him right down.

I'll know about 12 if the vet's coming today or not.  If not may have to try to wait until monday as don't fancy friday bloods being posted to the lab, plus friday's a 10.30am steroid dose so he has to eat after that. Today he last ate at 9.40 which isn't ideal either.
Do you know just how much higher the kidney and liver values are if there's no fasting involved? (up until recently all Swampy's blood tests were done on an empty tum for better accuracy).

they are zzzzing and lovely happy snores are coming from the igloo and I send some dark brown ones on to all of you xx

One other thing is that he is sleeping a lot more too. I don't know if the 2 are related but maybe they are. I also don't know if he's sleeping more because he's more sick or it's the winter weather. When he is awake, he seems cheerful enough and hasn't been circling too badly. Just doesn't want to use the tray!
I just hope Swampy will do a nice whizz for me before I settle down for the night. At the moment he's snoring in his igloo. I think I'll try again around 11. Hope everyone has a good night too xx

I never heard of Zylkene affecting weeing.  Still if he is going some at least that is better than none.  Fingers crossed.  Just keep your eye on him - as if you don't.

Fingers crossed he does a big one soon and that you all have a quiet night

Vet's nurse thinks it could be the meds - the Zyklene and glucosamine plus the ongoing antibiotics and she told me not to worry too much as long as he is going sometimes. Since I last was on here he's done a little wee after a lot of persuasion and several 1/2 hourly visits to the 'other' tray, he then chose the lounge one. So twice today. I hope it's nothing, he's perky when awake and not in any visible discomfort at the moment but it's quite a change. Please hope for him that it's just a good sign, not another bad one xx

6 hours now and he's still refusing. He's not going to the tray and squatting and not producing anything but he's just not interested in going. I take him and he just walks away. I know he must need to go, he has eaten his wet food today with a teaspoon of water in it each time and up until yesterday he was going every 4 hours or so. It seems there's nothing I can do. I'm going to email the vet; I called and he's not there and may only be able to come around on Friday. I just don't know how worried to be.

just got a little wee after his steroids but I had to take him out of his comfy bed to the tray. I think I'm going to have to leave a little of his previous wee in the tray to stimulate his nose when he gets near and remind him to wee. Not too great for tray hygiene though is it.

another day and another worry. Swampy slept like a log last night, with a break at 1.30 to puke up the dry food he found (stupid me left a little of Max's down by mistake) and at 3.30 for a drink. But he just would not wee, despite his last one being at 10 last night. I was sure he was going to wee at 3.30 but no, he just trotted back to his igloo and snored the rest of the night - not done that before and I'm pretty sure he's still got his cystitis.
This morning at 6 he woke up all grumpy and I managed to persuade him to wee a bit at about 6.30. I'm worried that he's forgetting to go or has confusion as that how it seemed - of course the vet sent me an article to read on dementia last night and I duly replied that thankfully Swampy's moments of confusion were unusual, mostly he was just stressed.
I hope I'm just being neurotic but am very worried - it ties in with the heavy sleeping the last 2 days too. I've got to go give him more steroids now poor love.

Trying to organise blood tests for this week too, if he will allow his blood to be taken as he very well might not. Vet insists he must shave his leg and take the blood with Swampy on the table, which is a BAD idea. It may just work on the futon.....or not. I really would like to know the state of his general, underlying health as we continue with his palliative care.

please send good, 4 hourly wee vibes! xx

I've not used feliway for a while. Maybe I should plug one in again. He had his Zyklene today in his food. He was crying for food as he had his steroids last night and it's colder. OH did last night and only had 2 interruptions - I've worked out why. The minx Max always sleeps next to me, leaving Swampy alone in the igloo. When OH sleeps in here, Max takes to the igloo and spends the night with Swampy, which he finds calming. Not much I can do about that as Max won't take kindly to being put in the igloo. Again Swampy found the tray once in the night and needed help once too. Poor OH as Swampy pooed at 6.30pm so we thought at least that stress would be absent last night, but no - another need to go at 2.30am.....He's gone to sleep now though. They are both keeping warm in the igloo. That bed was the best thing I ever bought as it's his refuge. It's so old now (it went to SA with us , back to France and back here) that its label says "made in England" !  I think I got it for him during his first winter with us when he was a teeny little brown thing xx

thanks! xx  I think he may well be up quite a bit as today he just decided was Igloo Dwelling Day. Nice to see him peacefully sleeping and it doesn't half help when Max joins him - when Max isn't igloo dwelling, Swampy relaxes less, tends to lie on his tum with his head straight down and looks uncomfortable. When Max is there they curl up in a ball together and snore. I love it.  to everyone and hope everyone and their furry purries are keeping warm tonight now that winter's really here.

OH did last night and only had to get up once as Swampy finally decided that a night and a day without sleep was enough and he was so tired I think he didn't pee as often either. This morning he's still circling away but seems a bit calmer, he was in a good mood anyhow, so I've given him another dose of Zylkene and the 2 boys are out like a light in the igloo right now which is very sweet. Swampy's using Max's chest as a nice pillow. Their hottie leaked in the night (puppy pad in the igloo did a nice job) so I was worried he'd be unwell from lying in a bit of damp, but hope not as he's back in there now. xx

Swampy had a tough night, lots of pacing and circling, but he did find his tray, more by luck than judgement though. OH got home yesterday evening and having left when Swampy was so much better he got a shock at how much he's gone back to what he was before.
Our feeling is we'll try the various meds to see if we can improve things in the next few days. But if he doesn't improve at all, it doesn't look good. What has changed is his stress seems worse. I did read that steroids do that especially if not always given at night in a cat. They haven't been and can't be because of the lag between doses. As the blood in his urine (which isn't much but is still there) has most likely been there quite a while, it seems logical that Swampy will deteriorate.
I just want to spend the weekend quietly with him as he still does love a cuddle and I will pass on messages and silly songs on to the top of his head to make him purr. xx
