Haven't posted in awhile, I was worried about introducing another cat to my existing pair. We decided to go ahead and give him a trial on the understanding that his old owner would take him back if it didn't work out. When we picked him up it became clear his old owner wanted him out the house as she was getting a new couch (I wish I were joking) the worst part was how upset the kids were, I felt so evil
When we got him home we locked Charley in the bedroom and let Garf have a wander, he was pretty traumatised and hid. The next day we put Garf in the bedroom and brought Charley through to the living room so they could get used to each others smell. It went horribly wrong here because Charley decided to open the bedroom door and see his new potential play mate. I expected the worst, fights etc but Charley just gave him a sniff and wandered back through to the living room. When I swapped them over again (Charley is used to sleeping in bed with us so didn't want to put him out) Garf decided he wanted to find his new friend and opened the bedroom door. Fast forward 3 weeks later and the 2 are best of friends. Charley loves his new friend and it really makes me smile to watch them chase each other about and roll around the floor together.
Happiest of all however is my little old man Henry. He was constantly pestered by Charley who just wouldn't leave him alone and had taken to hiding behind the PC for some peace. Now he lies in the middle of the floor in his sunbathing position showing us his belly for the first time.
I can't believe how lucky we got, on paper it should have went horribly wrong but it all worked out for the best, 3 very happy cats and 1 extremely happy mummy.
