Daughter also supports Malu Pothi, she only gives a little each month but it is half of her pocket money so a lot to her.

Actually i have been to the Born Free Santuary in South Africa and can tell you they do a brillant job for captive tigers and for their welfare in the wild.. I have great admiration for BF as they often are not afraid to speak out and in doing so alienate some people and countries.. Nope they do a great job as does the Environmental Protection Agency who get to grips with the politics of conservation and the crime within it... Because sadly its a huge world wide thing and its not the odd poacher that shots tigers to makes end meat, its the large synicates and backhanders in countries where punshiment is feeble and no one takes action for killing tigers.

EPA is a tough and very proactive organisation who aim to get to the route of the problems.. They also deserve a mention.. But sadly as we speak and write there are more tigets in cages in teh world then there are free in their natural environment and thats a sorry number to speak about..

Well done for supporting Tigers being such a keystone species if you cannot save a magnificant tiger in its natural habitat there isnt much hope for much else. Save the tiger and you save its environment simple really...!
Cannot save the world, but if everyone does something we can have a jolly good job trying too....

I adopted a tiger from WWF for a couple of years and unfortunately forgot to renew my subscription, so this has inspired me to renew ;D. I think they do a fantastic job although some of their newsletters did depress me or should I say the actions of so called fellow human beings >:(

I think that is a great idea Roz and look forward to the updates and pictures ;D

Wow Mark!  A whole wolf pack eh?  That's wonderful.  My hubs would like one of those....he loves wolves. I have loads of adopted birds and horses/donkeys and smaller animals (mostly older rescue and ex-farm) but because I cannot bear to read all the horror stuff from some of these big organisations, I've tended to give them one off large donations every so often, especially to the WSPA....who really do see animal life at its most grim.  However, the sight of this glorious tiger with her two cubs on the advertisement (video) was just too beautiful.

So I thought: Why don't I adopt it for Purrs?  But then it dawned on me that I would need so many details that I didn't have at 1.30am or whatever time it was this morning soooo I just filled in the details and decided that I would post everything up on here as and when.

Best wishes,

Roz

Some of my xmas gifts from OH were similar but from Born Free - I adopted a wolf pack for a year  :) - also I got cards saying I had donated so many 100's of pints of milk for primates and something else - I have the cards somewhere  :)

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

I already support WWF ... where I work they have a scheme whereby you can donate regularly to any of a range of charities and the company matches your donation :)  And of course this way it's all before tax, so everybody wins (except the govt, I suppose ...).  It's one of the good things about working for a company that is owned by the staff and not the shareholders.

Great idea though, Roz :)

WWF Adopting a tiger

Hi everyone,

Those of you who subscribe to AOL cannot have failed to notice the 'WWF Adopt a Tiger' (while you still can) clip that is playing over and over again on their Home Page. It is compelling viewing.

I have lots of adopted animals but have always chosen to donate as and when to the funds dedicated to saving tigers but tonight I have rectified that and adopted a magnificent tiger.

I would like to share this tiger with the rest of Purrs and give her to the site as a sort of wild mascot (I know our beautiful little Minimopsical is our real feline mascot but this one will represent the wild animals who are under threat).

When I receive all the news on her I shall share it with you and of course, if anyone else would like to support the WWF campaign and adopt her as well, then this would be wonderful.  It is estimated that a mere 4,000 tigers remain in the wild....and these are under constant threat of death.  Moreover that figure is almost too low to recover.  But anything we can do will help to keep them protected.

For anyone who hasn't seen this advertisement here is the link to the WWF.

Malu Pothi can be our BIG CAT MASCOT. :Luv:

What do ya think?

Either way I intend to share all the news with you all and hope that you too will look forward to hearing about this  beautiful animal.

Lots of love

Roz
