Neutering chase up letter, pls tell me what you think?

I am embarassed about altering other people's letters but I think it might be better to be more direct.  This would not upset anyone who intends to do the right thing and would better get the point across to those that didn't intend to play ball.

This is just a reminder to update my records regarding the kitten you adopted from us back in (add date). Puss should be just about old enough now to be neutered and, in line with Cats Protection rehoming policy, please would be able to confirm that puss has now been neutered or an appointment has been booked.

I attach some information as to why Cats Protection considers neutering cats is so very important and the only effective way to reduce the number of unwanted cats and kittens in the UK that may not be so lucky as to end up in a rescue and be rehomed. As a supporter, you will of course appreciate that not neuteringthis makes the work of rescues so very much more difficult than it already is.

If you took on a female kitten then it’s really important to get her spayed before her first season as it’s very easy for unspayed females to stray and become pregnant before anyone notices, this doesn’t really help with a rescue cause.

Please could you let me know either by email  on > or by phone on 01227 ? letting me know the vet you used and to confirm that your kitten has now been neutered, so I can then tick your kitten off my neutering list.

Equally if you are finding it difficult for whatever reason to get your kitten neutered then please get in touch as we will be able to assist.

I know of someone in rabbit rescue who consulted a solicitor for a situation where the adopter turned out to be a 'fraud' who then passed the rabbit onto someone else who they knew would have failed a homecheck.  They were essentially told that the contracts were not worth the paper they were written on and that once passed on, the rabbits would simply be considered 'goods' and that the best they could hope for was to recoup the adoption fee as 'compensation' for the goods. I know she was considering whether changing the adoption contract to a lifelong foster one, so she technically retains ownership, would make any difference.

PS on the letter, I agree with the changes suggested.  If anything I think it sounds a bit apologetic and grovelly, and might therefore make you sound like a bit of a 'pushover' to bluff or ignore, if there are any naughty owners out there.

That is interesting, our contract says we can, and while I have only threatened it once this year, I probably should ask our HQ if we could have legally done it. I would have thought you could have done.

Need a plan to make that work better as a vet stamp is good proof. Lazy sods not sending back

That's a good idea - I think they should be made aware in the nicest way possible, their cat will be confiscated if they don't do the right thing

Good idea but we cover a too wider area, and besides many people pay for the neutering themselves only a few times have we stepped in to do it if they get back tous with problems of finances.. we do make it VERY< VERY, clear that i am will livid with them if they dont get a cat neutered that they got from them.. I had a case this year of 2 kittens females that went onto get preg due to the owners ignorance. One ended up having a ceaserian and cost the owner over 400 quid!! I know she is spayed now though!!

The idea of paying for neutering up front when then take a kitten, we have thought about it but logistically it would involve more work (for me!!)..

Anyhow just some things to think about, i may ask in this letter to let me know what vet they used as a backup idea if you get what i mean.

I dont know the size of the area you rehome to Sharon, but we have a policy where if they use our vet, it is included in the adoption fee, all they do is show their adoption paper to the vet, and it goes on our bill. When we get our invoices, the vet nurse kindly writes the name of the person next to the spay, so it is a lot easier to make sure it is done. Could something like that be implemented? I still ring people up, although dont do everyone at the moment (we are changing our system this year so I can)

Would it take a lot more time to make letter less "general" and be specific as to sex. Perhaps 2 standard letters?

As for the mail and them being honest, they could in fact tell me a pack of lies over the phone!! I am not to know unless i ring the vets!

I think 'puss kitten' is a little bit um i dont know the word but it reads funny 

Do you not request proof thats it done? As they could just say yeah they have done it when they havent?

Also, what about royal mails great art of misplacing letters  could mean a few reminders dont make it

I just dont have the time to phone up about all the kitten we rehomed and when they are ready to be neutered, so i have done this letter.
