Well its good to know I don't have the only hungry horse then!! Oscar often leaves his food (he is the bigger of the two weight wise) and Edgar happily polishes Oscars off too lol!!

I can be opening a kitchen roll and he is clambering up me for a taste

Jaffa is a bit like that, but he doesn't go for the kitchen roll!  He knows that doesn't taste good.  If I have meat though, he's clambering up my legs.  Even if he's just been fed.

Both of mine got approx 3 pouches/small tins a day.  Jaffa gets a pouch 3 times a day and Mosi gets half a pouch with a bit of dry sprinkled on top.  Jaffa would eat twice that amount if he was given the chance, but 3 pouches is the right amount to maintain his weight.  Mosi loves his food and usually clears his dish, but he sometimes has furball problems that put him off his food and he's not what I'd call food motivated, ie if there's something more interesting going on he will abandon his food to investigate (if there was an earthquake Jaffa would continue eating)

Zi's the opposite, she is eating more dry than wet - mind you, before coming here, she was only fed dry food, so any wet I can get in her is good.

I've noticed this with Jameson too - he is currently eating less of the bisquits, so for now he gets bisquits plus half pouch of Whiskas in the morning, bisquits out throughout the day, and in the evening he'll get a pouch of Hi Life Essentials - the other 1/2 of the Whiskas pouch he gets the next morning (mixed with warm water)

And I know what you mean about your cat going crazy in the kitchen - EVERY time I open Jamesons food cupboard he's there faster than a lightning bolt, sniffing around and climbing the tins and boxes and seems very concerned about what I'm selecting for him!!!

Well today is first day of two lots of wet  - they shared a tin of Bio pate in the morning and had a pouch and a half of Tesco tonight - all wolved down. Has it stopped Edgar pestering me - not one bit - I think I just have to accept I have a dog disguised as a cat in that one!!

Millys Mum - they only get Applaws as a treat - I order some when I order their litter from Zoo plus - means delivery is free - so they get it every few days cos they love it so much! They do like Bio Pate too but most of the time it is Whiskas or Tesco for the boys.

IN fact on the note of dry, my new vet who came highly recomended and has been in Edinburgh for years - he still takes calls at home out of hours and never has a holiday. Anyway he mentiioned to a collegue that a lot of dry has additives that literally makes the cats addicted - Go Cat being the worst - and as someone mentioned, it leads to bladder probs!

I would say your cats are getting fussy and liking the finer things you give them more.

I feed mine 2 pouches a day each and also fill up the biscuit bowl twice a day, I do have 5 cats though.

Dry always gets promoted but in my eyes it causes most of the bladder and obese cats!!
Wets good for them, lots of moisture just like a mouse has  ;D

The only thing to watch is that if they decide to go for the applaws to make sure some complete foods also go down the hatch to balance things out. Tesco do a similar chicken in a tin that has all the added minerals in it

I agree with MM , to feed them wet 2-3 times a day wet food and leave the dry all day for them.  Thats what i do for Boy and Phoebe cos they prefer wet to dry most times but then if they decide they dont want wet asmuch there is always dry out  ;D

I think if Edgar still follows you after 9 weeks to kitchen then its not just a habit , he might need more food and once full then he wont ask any more.

BTW i think Edgar is gorgeous :Luv: :Luv:

Applaws - lol  - I did get it wrong and was too lazy to walk upstairs to kitchen to check!! ;D

They are on Purina bisctuits, but this is only the second bag, the wolved them down when I first got them...so I thougt they liked them!! I now have been mixing in a bit Hills, but again, they used to like it but turn their nose up now!

Maybe I should just give them wet in morning too and just leave some dry out for grazing all day! So many people seem to promote dry though - so maybe I just jumped on the bandwagon!

If they like the wet then i would feed them that 2-3 times a day, what dry do you offer? Maybe they are just bored of it! Being on all wet wont hurt them as the common thought of biscuits cleaning teeth isnt true

Edit: Appleclaws = applaws  ;D that really made me smile!  :thanks:

Food Guideline Please
« Reply #1 on: July 04, 2008, 20:44:23 PM »
JUst hoping for some guidelines regarding food as worried my two are not getting enough!

They have fresh biscutis put out in the morning which are available all day. They do nibble at them but the thing is,  I have noticed lately they are not really eating them that much.

Then at night they get wet food. Either a pouch and a half of felix, or a tin between them of Bio Pate or a small tin of Appleclaws each (sorry thats prob spelt wrong!). If it is the puches then they don't eat it all in one go and go back for some later but with the Bio pate and especially the Applelaws the wolf it down in minutes. Tonight I went back in the kitchen after they had a big tin between them and they were standing there like they were expecting to be fed again. I know I am giving them enough but the problem is they seem to not eat biscuits now and I was hoping to have them on both. Any suggestions - am I not giving them enough or should I just give them wet since they don't seem to eat the dry anymore. They didn't ever eat it that much but certainly sometimes emptied the bowl - that never happens now!

Secondly Edgar is a ganet - he acts like a dog when ever we go into the kitchen. My partner prob didn't help as he would often give him a tidbit whenever he went into the kitchen but that stopped about 9 weeks ago ( he is working overseas now) and I have given Edgar NOTHING on demand and yet he still follows me into the kitchen, yells like he is in pain and climbs up my leg whenever I open a cupboard, drawer or the fridge. I can be opening a kitchen roll and he is clambering up me for a taste - will he eventually stop this given he is never getting anything as result!!

Thanks very much for reading and any help assistance you have!!
